I've already got a tiny scratch on the screen from keeping it in my pocket.
Not really that fussed — battle scars are cute and I never sell on my portables anyway.
First time I take it to a beach, it's gonna get scratched to fuck, case or no case. Dat sand.

I totally love my White Vita case. It may be the nicest thing that I imported! It's a softer case, with a really nice interior. Plus three slots to carry games!

Damn...well there goes my PS Vita plans. My 60GB PS3 decided to go YLOD tonight. Looks like I'll cancel my pre-orders and apply the money I had saved for the Vita towards a new PS3.

Guess Vita will be something down the road for me.

Power Smash > Mingol > everything else for me so far. Power Smash is great, less masochistic than Mingol for those weak of heart.

I have 5000 yen sitting in my account waiting to be used on something or other - I came close to getting Lords of Apocalypse after watching the Toro Station video about it and finding out it has death metal music and legendary Japanese thrash band United. Do you guys have impressions about that one? It's a PSP port right?

Has Rayman Origins been released on the JP PSN yet? Wonder how that hand drawn art looks on the Vita screen.
There's an answer to that on this very page...

You mixed up Army Corps of Hell - a Pikminish game with metal soundtrack and Lord of Apocalypse which is a MonHan inspired action-rpg and had a simultaneous PSP release.

Juding from ACoH impressions in this thread, the game is pretty good, as for LoA it made me fall in love with the MonHan type games, so there's that.

ooh, nice. I would get the blue version of this if it has an interior pouch, separate from the main system pouch, to store USB cable and external charger; does it?

Oh I wish! There's a soft divider, to protect the screen and store the system. On the other side are three slots for games. It's a very nice case, but I don't think it'll hold everything necessary to travel!

Ahhh yeah I mean Army Corps of Hell, the one with Pikmin guys you command...one is magic using, one is melee and one is spears or something like that.

I haven't been stung by the MonHan fever but maybe it's because I haven't played online at all. It seems like a game for people who've never heard of MMORPGs before or don't have easy access to PCs (AKA the Japanese gaming world), I'm sure downing each specific monster and figuring things out is fun in its own right but I don't 'get it' yet...

Oh wow Army Corps got thrashed by this website:

Overall 4.0 / 10 Final VerdictAnd in the end, that’s the biggest problem with Army Corps of Hell, it’s repetitive, monotonous, and just plain boring. It looks and feels more like a PSP launch title than a Vita one and it is most certainly one of the weakest titles in the Vita’s launch line-up.

Hmmm...I might still get it just to support a game with metal soundtrack :P

Nah, they have a lot more.

Leather Case (most expensive, also doubles as stand, and comes in white)

Soft Carry Case/Travel Pouch (also comes in Blue and White)

Carrying Case (from the video, also doubles as a stand)

Pouch (similar to PSP-1000 pouch, found in the US Starter pack or retail JPN)

Hard Case (only from the First Edition bundle)

So there's actually 5 made by Sony, with some extra color variants.
To add to my post, there's actually a 6th case.

Travel Pouch
This slightly bigger than the Soft Pouch I mentioned above. I thought they were the same but after looking around more it seems they aren't. The tab is different too.
This one would fit more like an AC adapter. Also comes with cleaning cloth and wrist strap.

Woah, that white PS Vita case looks sweet.

Please let me know if i am not allowed to ask this, will remove if so -- if anyone wants to sell either MvC3 or Blazblue to me i would be willing to buy, as long as it is not outrageous. Need another game and can't wait for the release lol... USA only please. Just PM me =)

Was going to post this in the Buy/Sell thread but doubt many of you would check it out there.

1 gamerz proclaim hatred of UMD
2 sony vita designed with no UMD
3 gamerz cry waaaaaaaahhhhhh wheres my UMD????
4 ?????
5 profit

The same thing happened with the PSPGo. Everyone in America and Europe hates UMD, but after investing so much money into the games on that format, you damn well better be able to insure a smooth continuation to the successor product.

Sure the PSP doesn't disappear, but without a good transition mechanism, the Vita has to stand completely on its own, and right now that's a much shakier proposition for consumers than it would be otherwise, especially in Japan where it's the system with no Monster Hunter.

Sony should have released a cradle UMD drive for Japan.

Search this thread and you'll find some pretty long and positive impressions. Don't remember who posted them though.

Army Corps is fairly barebones, I like to think it's been made this way to meet the launch window and if a sequel appears that it would be more fleshed out.

The only thing it kind of reminds me of is the underground/cave levels from Pikmin 2. You move from small square area to small square arena fighting enemies to get points/collect resources, and every so often a boss will show up. You are ranked Gold/Silver/Bronze at the end on overkill points, goblins lost and time (there may be something higher than gold, I'm not sure). I like the overkill scoring, you get points for killing an enemy with as much force as possible, so where you only need 20 of the sword goblins to perform an execution on a floating eyeball, if you manage to get more than that on his back and perform the execution you'll get a extra points for each one.

I've encountered 3 kind of gobins so far, Sword, Spear and Magic. Sword Goblins seem to be the strongest, Spear can do a dash attack, and Magic have a ranged attack. Circle Triangle and Square switch between using the respective types and X is dodge. You can use each class to attack normally by pressing R and use their special attack by holding L and pressing R. In the case of the sword guys you can throw them much faster but you can't move freely only dodge, Spear guys will all attack at once, and magic guys seem to give you a wider view (I'm not too sure what the advantage is aside from that)

So to get a good overkill point you can use the Sword guys special move to throw a lot on the enemies backs, but you'll be more vulnerable and the other two have similar risk/reward aspects.

You can collect body parts for the dead enemies and rubies(?) which let you buy new armour/weapons/items for you goblins use in the battles. Stages are often labelled by what type of enemy they primarilly have in them, so far i have seen Fire and Lighting. Magician Goblins also seem to have fire/lighting staffs, i haven't figured out if it's a case of fighting Fire with Fire or not (If an enemy is on fire you won't be able to use the spear/sword guys attack without harming your goblins)

There also is multiplayer, i haven't played it. The manual says it's for up to 4 players and you can share 200 goblins, 50 each at the start, but you can give/receive from other players while in battle - i think. It looks to be multiplayer for the main "campaign" too, though again i haven't tried it i just had a brief look at the manual last night)

It's a very simple game, but I have found it very addictive up until now (3 or 4 bosses in) it's very easy to pick up and play and suits the handheld format well in my opinion. I also find it impressive that it manages to have so much going on in the screen without any noticeable slowdown.

Found the impressions with Search Engine Magic, thanks

Simple is good. That Nowgamer review is strange because it doesn't read like 4/10, maybe a little harsh with the scoring...

Wow, for some reason I completely forgot about Sumioni. I hope that gets localized. Will definitely want to hear impressions if anyone here gets it next month.

one of the benefits of all Vita games being available on PSN, is that in theory it makes international releases cheaper (at least for the US where localisation is simpler). Seems like companies can do digital only releases which is much less risky than committing to physical cards for a game that is likely to do low volumes.

I think i mentioned that my worry was that Army Corps wouldn't go anywhere and i'd talked to someone who had played an early build and documented the exact same issues as in this review prior to the launch

it's a shame - it gets off to a fun start, but yes - seems it's just very plain.

That's sad to hear, was really looking forward to it, in fact it was in my top 3 to buy. Quick question, how 'far' are you in it? Also you said it seems to not go 'anywhere', do you mean it's just the same repetitive elements for each stage? or more along the lines of nothing changes with the gameplay?

Lastly would you compare this more to pikmen or overlord? (Not the art/ style but the progression in the game)

This may come as a daft question, but how do you access the PSP remap/filtering controls? I can't seem to find them anywhere :S

Edit: Found it - turns out it was the biggest, flashiest button on the Vita! I keep forgetting the touch screen.

Wipeout AND Super Stardust coming on the 19th? Damn Vita gonna send me broke!

Now to figure out the best way to get a 10k yen psn card.

no, but there is a case that lets you do that

This case is perfect! fits my 3DS and Vita and keeps them both safe and away from each other :)

i can charge with the power adapter though..

am i doing something wrong?

I think you need to set it in charge mode, i belive it is in the settings menu somewhere if i'm not mistaken. I also think that you cant use the Vita while charging through USB.

Like test_account said, you need to turn on charge mode in settings, plus you have to turn off the Vita completely (that means no standby mode) to be able to charge it via the normal USB.

so when you're using content manager, which requires you to have the vita on...you'd better have charge in your battery?

Yeah, pretty much. I find this quite stupid - even PSP could charge while in USB mode, which is basically the same and with CFW you could even set it to charge always when connected to a PC. Hopefully, we'll get that in a future firmware upgrade or something.
