Winter 2012 Anime Thread of Roundcats Up in This

Anyway here are more details on various shit:

- That Nunnally book+bluray/dvd thing looks hilarious. They showed a trailer for it on the stream, and it's wacky as hell. It doesn't look completely animated, so it's a mix of anime scenes, still art, voice-overs, etc. It's basically Alice in Wonderland with Code Geass characters, and CC is the Cheshire Cat (in costume). Lulz.

- Akito the Exiled looks pretty high quality, in the trailer they showed. The mecha action is pretty much entirely CG (stop, don't run away!) but it looks VERY high quality and extremely detailed and fluid. The character animation (not CG!) looks great too.

- The Soubou no Oz project is indeed similar to the Gundam spinoff projects. In Hobby Japan they will be running a Photo Story (basically a serialized novel with photos of a mecha model and/or CG mock ups) about a terrorist boy who wants revenge against the death of his girlfriend. In Newtype Ace they will be running a manga about a member in the anti-terror Knight force. Both stories follow the same scenario, but from different perspectives, and feature variant KMFs which will be sold as models/figures as well.

Delusion is a horrible thing, isn't it?

Nah, it really looks great. I love the shape and the detailing and the shading.

Have you seen the actual PV? It really doesn't look too hot.

Yes, that's why I commented that it looks great. The motion is fantastic. The other mecha don't quite look as good, especially in the highway/street scene with the grunt KMFs, but it's not too bad.

Edit: Oh I missed one image. Her ass is kinda flat... :(

It just doesn't look nearly as good as the best bits of actions from the TV show, which is really disappointing considering that, at least according to ANN, this is a pseudo-movie.

Shrug, different strokes for different folks I guess. The action scene in the trailer is completely different from anything else the TV series did. Alexander is more like a ninja mech than anything else. Looks great to me. I see you too are a firm believer in ANN now. How the great have fallen. :(

This is how it starts. Next thing you know, you'll be watching 009 Re:Cyborg thinking it looks hella awesome.

The problem with 009 Re:Cyborg is not that it's CG though. The problem with it is that it's a full CG movie which doesn't really take full advantage of the format. The camera work in the trailer and the environmental spacing feels pretty amateur in comparison with much better full CG movies.

If they make it look awesome, I'll say it looks awesome. There are some pretty solid moments of animation in the 009 trailer, and the modeling is pretty top notch, it just doesn't look great when put together.

They have a source for their "Code Geass Gaiden: Bōkoku no Akito project will be screened in theaters throughout Japan" claim, man. Either way, I really don't see the action in the PV as particularly different from the stuff Lancelot pulled in the first season, before he was given the wings and became a beamspam machine. Hell, even Rolo was pulling similar-looking ninja-kung-fu stuff in R2. I wouldn't care about Akito going CG if the TV show had been like Gundam DOUBLE O, mainly filled with not-so-good mecha animation... but Geass actually had some great bits of robot fighting through its run.

I was just yanking your chain. Besides, I have no problem with the CG in the rebuild movies so what the hell do I know!

I just finished watching the press conference. That was fucking crazy. Bandai is definitely banking HEAVILY on Code Geass in 2012 when it comes to the otaku market. I guess they realized that they didn't really have anything else, since Gundam AGE is for the wrong demographic and already tanking. Lol.

There's a spinoff manga (recently started, and just a few chapters in now) that tells the story of Claus, Lavie, etc. in between the two series that does do that, but it should have had more in the new TV anime.
Well now you have me quite distracted. ;)

Can't I just re-watch the original and call it a day? So so good. But I will definitely at least try silver wing. I'm sure I will just rage though.
Well then the question becomes why in the world you kept watching it for so long...
Dude, I watched like 6 episodes of dark rabbit. Don't ask me.

Semi-serious response: Code Geass is such a stupid cartoon of a universe that I can't wait to see what sort of nonsense will pass for a plot in Akito.

That mecha design doesn't look two shabby, though too bad the show is Code Geass related.

Because there's the chance it'll never reach the heights of the original series, meaning that we'll judge it harshly compared to the original instead of on its own merits?

Okay, I didn't watch all of Code Geass, but from what I saw it was awful.

I certainly don't expect someone to finish a show that they don't like, but "it was awful" is not enough of an excuse for a show so strategically engineered to be fantastic like Code Geass.

Gintama 6-10

It's been entertaining so far but it has yet to wow me. Then again, I'm well aware I've barely even gotten started. ohgodwhyisitsolong?

One question, how long until the megane ninja chick is formally introduced?

I certainly don't expect someone to finish a show that they don't like, but "it was awful" is not enough of an excuse for a show so strategically engineered to be fabulous like Code Geass.

Fixed for accuracy.

I'm more elitist than Regulus and Unknown? Whaaaaa
Bear in mind it's all as cosmic sees it according to cosmic's own preferences. I'm high on the list because of all the bonuses I got from bickering with him despite all the things I do that go the other way.

Isn't it well established that modern day mecha fans are comprised of girls who love yaoi subtext?
How does Code Geass pander to mecha fans when the main reasons people seem to like the show have absolutely nothing to do with the mecha?
Don't people like it for being fabulously stupid? That's the impression I got.

Isn't it well established that modern day mecha fans are comprised of girls?

No. Guys are the ones who buy the actual model kits and generally watch the shows for the mechs. Girls are the ones who tend to watch for the girl-bait pseudo-homosexual characters who they design and put in to attract this extended fanbase.
