Apparently there have been a few house shows where they tested out the Royal Rumble concept before it's official debut. Examples I could find were one in St. Louis in 1986 that was won by the Junkyard Dog, one in St. Louis in 1987 that was won by the One Man Gang (the winner would get a WWF Title shot but during intermission they announced Gang's title match for the next show anyway) and even one going back to 1976 that was won by Stan Hansen.

Yes, and "Battle Royals" have been around a lot longer than that. On 19th-Century fight cards, (mostly carny shows and smokers) where mixed cards of boxing, catch wrestling, worked wrestling and arm wrestling were featured, sometimes with audience participation, "battle royals" featuring more than two boxers in the ring at the same time were frequent special attractions. It didn't take long for wrestlers to get into the act. The "over the top rope" elimination aspect was a natural evolution, as going for a pinfall in a crowded ring is a really, really stupid idea.

The term "Battle Royal" actually comes from gladiatorial combat in ancient Rome where it was a term coined for fights where many men fought until only one remained standing.

I get the complaints and all, but is there really anything to follow as far as actual live wrestling goes? Even TNA isn't airing until a few hours.
True. There was a question posted earlier to start some discussion and it was answered by, what, 3 people?

Discussion takes off when there's something to watch.

Sleep? What is this sleep?

Seriously, insomnia sucks.

Not that bad for me but irregular sleep patterns suck as well, in fact it's almost always set off by WWE PPV events, lousy UK start time.

I understand what you are saying but when Bootaaay or other posters post some informative discussion regarding the origins or the Rumble or a piece about Glacier, it would be nice to get hear some feedback rather than have it buried under spam posts. I get the fact that not everyone is going to be interested in what the thread is currently talking about, but still. There is a time and a place imo.

I love reading that stuff and I try to reply to the posts as much as possible. However, my wrasslin' knowledge is incredibly limited and most of the time the most I can contribute with is something along the lines of "cool" or "I didn't know that" so I keep my mouth shut.

Oh, no I understand that. Fortunately, nostalgia stream watching doesn't happen every hour in WrestleGAF.

I'm open to someone creating an official WrestleGAF IRC channel, though. It could benefit certain banned members as well.

Eugene wasn't in the least bit offensive and was very much in good taste.
It's funny because when Eugene was in the WWE, I didn't think of the gimmick as offensive. It's when I look back, I think to myself: "Jesus Christ, how did they let this personality on air?"

I'm in the middle of making one. I'll post info in a bit.
