Princess Tutu 20:

So I take it it was Fakir's powers what killed his parents? The episode wasn't too explicit about who the shadows on the ground were during the flashback.

Fakir episodes are the best; they bring out the violent side of the story. That
fight between Fakir and Raven!Mytho was incredible, although the overuse of panning shots took some of the tension out from it.
Plus, they are somewhat sparse, making an already interesting character even more salivating (in both the literal and figurative sense of the word!).

I can't say much about the show beyond what I've already expanded. I guess I could comment how not a single episode has been wasted on filler? It's curious that, even when the each episode's prologue is focused on the "guest" characters, the internal drama of the main cast has always been moving. Although Rue isn't neglected despite being in just one scene in this episode,
serving as a flag that her longing for Mytho is becoming desperation
. Even greats like Card Captor Sakura have their one or two throwaway episodes. I don't think I could skip any in Tutu without feeling like I missed something.
*cough* Hameln. *cough*
I already told you, wait til I finish Tutu!

It's my most watched Oshii movie! I'm listening to the OST right this very second!

Speaking of which...

Je t'aime

Starring not only a basset hound but also (SPOILER!)
a leftover android extra from a GitS movie
wandering around in a desolate, uninhabited locale (I know, I'm getting excited just thinking about it!), I thought this looked pretty good and had pretty nice direction aside from the horrible music choice which nearly ruined it. If there was an extra tidbit post-credits, Sky Crawlers-style, someone should tell me because I had to turn it off because my ears couldn't take it. OK, the music wasn't THAT bad, but it did kinda tank my enjoyment and certainly could have been a lot better.

Can't fault it for lack of basset hounds, tho.

Nothing after the credits, sadly I had to sit through the music to find that out. :(

so this is now good CG?

I don't think Japanese animation studios are particularly good at modeling and lighting moderately realistic environments and real world objects in CG. It's particularly noticeable in vehicles and environmental objects.

I do feel that the standard of modeling and animation (and shading in particular) for characters and robots have improved very significantly for certain studios. Which is why it has reached a point where I'm actually able to enjoy watching the use of such CG when they're animated in ways which would only make it possible to achieve that specific effect in CG.

I don't really know how else to explain it, but it has to do with the look of the shading, the detailing on the models, and most importantly the motion in the animation. Bad CG continues to look like bad CG to me. Average CG continues to look like average CG to me. But every now and then, something is done in CG which makes me go "this is really fucking cool", and it no longer becomes a matter of comparing it with how it might look in 2D, but it's simply valid as an art form on its own.

I expect you to stick to your story once You Can (Not) Redo is released.

I'll watch it in the cinema like I have for the first two Rebuild movies, and if I feel it looks just as good as the previous ones or better, I'll say so. If it doesn't, then it doesn't. I haven't seen 3.0, and neither have you, so I can't really say one way or another if the Eva CG in there is great in my opinion. I expect the returning Evas to look just as cool, since there's not reason why they wouldn't, but I do have reservations about the funkier new designs they might experiment with. But I feel the digital crew at Khara are very talented, so they have the benefit of the doubt for now.

Thermae Romae 1
Hmmm, so the creation of modern Japanese baths is thanks to a time loop after some Roman dude got sucked into a drain and ended up in modern Japan.
Good to know!

Well of course. It was kind of like watching a SHAFT show or the Violinist of Hameln if they had less animation.

What can I say, after Garzay's Wing, Arjuna, School Days, Code Geass and Blood C, I levelled up enough to take on Guilty Crown.

I want to see how terrible Arjuna is, isn't it like the only anime that uses hindu mythology?

People like to abuse themselves around here, as you may well have noticed.

Maybe so, but unlike something like School Days which is so crazy bad that it's worth watching, Guilty Crown didn't have any redeeming qualities and was straight up boring. Though apparently it becomes slightly better from episode 2, I just couldn't take anymore of the self-loathing protagonist and the terribly placed fanservice scenes. Maybe the action is good? I don't have a damned clue

Mind. Blown. Nono and Lal'C from Diebuster are bunnies in the spa episode of TTGL! Also looks like Rei and Asuka made it in....

hell naw, just jump in asap and overdose on the crazy

and the chick from mahoromatic

I'm pretty sure Nadia from Nadia is there as well. Or wait, maybe not because of course GAINAX don't own that,or any of the associated rights. Sometimes I forget how dumb GAINAX were with their contracts.

Sukeban Deka 1/2
Did watch the dubbed version as recommended and wasn't disappointed. Ridiculous, funny, crazy, bad. Favourite quotes: "My Yo-Yo..." and "With her left hand! Impossible!". I still don't know if you wanted to harm or amuse the readers or both.

That one PV with CG 02 in space didn't look too hot.

I agree. It looks pretty weird/bad. But it's also a work-in-progress cut into a short CM broadcast on TV in compressed 1080i. I'm not a big fan of the design in general either, and it looks really weird even in the recent magazine spread. But I still haven't seen it animated in a complete scene in the cinema on 35mm yet. So I can't say for certain what the quality is.

A bit of catch up.

Bodacious Pirates 1: It's not bad. I just hope the bodacious-ness amps up quickly. Could be a fun times show. Hanazawa's role does look like Kuroneko.

Rinne no Lagrange 1: That was pretty cool. The fanservice was pretty blatant but the show carried itself well otherwise. Madoka is quite likable. She's got some energy that's for sure. The mecha CG wasn't bad either! And suplexes! Interested in watching more.

On a side note: I was suggested a drinking game where you take one every time someone mentions Kamagawa and how great it is. I can only see alcohol poisoning for any who'd try.

Ano Natsu 1: It really doesn't help that this show has the same director as AnoHana. I'm told this is basically Onegai Teacher's premise? On it's own I guess it's another romcom with an alien which is fine. Not terrible so I'll probably watch it a bit more.

Another 1: The thing I feel they got right was the music. It fits in with the show pretty well. Not too impressed with the dialogue end of things however. It doesn't really set up the mystery part of things all too well. Also ALI PROJECT songs all sound the same!?! The OP animation also seemed to help enforce that. All in all I guess it's about as expected.

Highschool DxD 1: Even in death the guy only thought about breasts. I tip my hat to that. Most likely a terrible harem thingie where main guy becomes a vampire. With breasts.

I like that I'm still in the relative same spot on cosmic's monocle rankings. Yeah mustaches!

THERMAE ROMAE 1

Crappy flash animation aside, this was brilliant. noitaminA status = half-dead?!?!?!

not that it really matters anymore ;_;

Rinne no Lagrange 1

It's like a child prodigy had free reign to the crayon box, and I love it. I mean, dat. usage. of. COLOR. It's unabashed:

Guilty Crown 12

I know that if ever I find a
half-dead, half-naked little boy washed up ashore my first instinct would be to give him a silly name and take him home with me for the summer
. I mean, it's just common sense y'know?

And with this episode, the show has finally attained full trainwreck status. There's really no way I can stop watching now.

Diebuster 6

Now that's a finale!
So at the end...that's Noriko and Amano? Dix Neuf was the Gunbuster all along? DAT GUNBUSTER OUTFIT ON LARK. Love the ties between the two series, really really well done.

Inu X Boku SS 1
Aside from the terrible self hating main chick and the stupid two different eye colors the main guy has. This was just weird, I didn't see that shit at the end coming at all.

I found myself focusing on it than the plot in the non action scenes, some scenes are mesmerizing and a sight to behold because of the style.

So instead of having a ly dow', I decided to watch Guilty Crown 12 even though I did decide to drop it after episode 11.

I haven't laughed out loud like that whilst watching anime in a very long time.

I lost it the moment Gai runs up the glass and gets stabbed. I also couldn't help but laugh hysterically during all the tearful scenes. (not to forget the acoustic guitar to add some further effect throughout all of this).

Can almost guarantee that others will as well.

After Utena, this is exactly what I needed to bring me down to this reality of Anime hell and suffering. But finally I can admit it's something that I enjoy.

God bless trainwrecks.

Yep. It's definitely one of the prettier series to come around in a long time. I can't say I'm all that interested in the narrative so far, but I'll give it few more eps off of its production values alone.

So Gai is what? I haven't even started the show and I want to know.

It's the type of idiocy you need to watch at least a handful of episodes to fully appreciate but if you absolutely must know.
Gai is Shu's childhood friend.

Ino x Boku SS

So a not-quite-tsundere tsundere who hates herself for acting like a not-quite-tsundere gets a bodyguard against her will, who acts like a puppy and only lives to serve the not-quite-tsundere tsundere.

Right lets start again.

The basic setup is like Zero no Tsukaima except the kugiloli clone minus the violent tendencies hates being a kugiloli (clone), and she has her own bodyguard who wants to be a dog, tbh I half expected the turn it took in the latter half of the episode mainly because the building they went to was called Maison de Ayakashi.

Tried to marathon a couple more episodes of CCS but was too exhausted to do it.
I guess i will try again tomorrow morning.
I need my fix.

Inu X Boku SS

i'm... really not sure what this was about. the more I watched the more i got confused.

i guess i'll keep watching since the premise seems kinda interesting.

guilty crown 12

it's like a JRPG boss fight with more dumb poured in. I liked the part where little Shoe is staring at the silhouette of his sister's ass highlighted against the setting sun.
