What's the Disney cartoon that's a ripoff of Nadia?
Guilty Crown ep 12
It's like somebody played The Third Birthday and decided to base this show on it.
Yah, unfortunately it doesn't reach GOiDA levels until later in the story so capture arcs turn people off.Novelty wore after the first season for the World God Only Knows.
Where is Nibbler and what have you done with him?? Are you being Haly'd too?Trapeze is wicked sweet. I don't understand how you go from this to the fugly mess that was C. I want my fucking money back.

dohohoho (sales of fall anime, vol.1)
Is this saying that not a single person bought Chihayafuru? Or that sales were so low they didn't even bother tracking it? Either way fuck this stupid industry.
It doesn't surprise me in the least, sadly.I think you missed the entire point of his post. There was a 10 month gap in between the release of the last BD in Japan and the release of the BD over here in the states. Evidently 10 months somehow wasn't good enough for Kadokawa, which is completely and utterly ridiculous.

Novel author Akamatsu Chugaku posted in his twitter that the realization of the second season of Hidan no Aria depended on the Blu-ray and DVD sales. He said the producers have been checking the sales closely but the current sales were far below the required amount.
Director Miyamoto Yukihiro posted in his twitter that they have reached close to the second season of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko.
ref. the Blu-ray + DVD sales of the first volume
Hidan no Aria: 6,356 copies (one episode, 4,200 yen)
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko: 6,628 copies (two episodes, 7,350 yen)
Another sales thing: Insufficient Blu-ray Sales of Hidan no Aria To Produce Second Season
More Denpa?![]()

Fuck this shit. I'm getting on a plane to Japan and going over there to kick every single person in the shins.

What's the Disney cartoon that's a ripoff of Nadia?
Right! Take a look at the annotations on the page from which I've taken that fragment, as it includes Mr. Yamaga and Mr. Akai version of the story:I believe you're thinking of Atlantis.
Mr. Yamaga: Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water is the series that we feel regret for. We feel that they didnt do the best job possible.
Mr. Akai: In fact, they were working for another corporation when they made Nadia. They did all of the creative work, yet they had absolutely no rights to it. A lot of people have come to them asking questions about the series or about merchandising and they really cant answer because it is not their series. They just did all of the work.
Originally, NHK would send them the script, saying this is how exactly they want it done. The director, Mr. Anno, what he would do was take the fax, staple it and throw it in the garbage. For some strange reason, every single week they would get the scripts.
Mr. Yamaga: Since NHK wasnt getting the product that they thought they were getting and the delivery of the product was getting slower and slower, NHK actually called them to scold them. In fact, Gainax got really upset and ended up yelling at NHK.
Mr. Akai: Since NHK is half run by the government, theyve kind of cycled through all the people, so there are all these fresh faces. Yet in Grouptux [sp?] and Gainax there are pretty much the same people that were working on Nadia: Secret of the Blue Water are still working there. Now, they (NHK) are making lots of money on the Nadia DVD and they wanted to have a reunion party but they did not realize how incredibly bad the situation was originally. They (Gainax) decided that it would not be a good idea because there would be a very big conflict.
Mr. Yamaga: NHK was very happy about it. They were very friendly about the reunion party but the people from Gainax were perplexed.
Mr. Akai: When [Disneys] Atlantis got released, NHK actually asked them what exactly they thought about Nadia. They were kind of puzzled because they are kind of a subsidiary and it was not like they had any kind of decision making power. So they were mystified as to why NHK bothers asking them.
On the internet, there was a lot of talk about how Atlantis was so similar to Nadia. Of course, Disney says that they have never seen or heard of a series called Nadia. NHK came to Gainax because of this and asked them how they felt about this implication that Disney was plagiarizing the series. They didnt really have anything to say because they werent the parent corporation. It was not like they had any rights anyways.
Mr. Yamaga: We actually tried to get NHK to pick a fight with Disney, [Laughter] but even the National Television Network of Japan didnt dare to mess with Disney and their lawyers. What we said to them was, this really had nothing to do with us but if it did we would definitely take them to court. Of course, it is all a lie. We actually did say that but we wouldnt actually take them to court. We would be so terrified about what they would do to them in return that we wouldnt dare.
Poor Chihaya, although as a shoujo, it was almost doomed to failure.
Yeah, it's the one shoujo "hit" as it were. But I mean, they also made a real movie as well, so that's how big it is.Didn't KnT enjoy success though? It topped the sales chart at some point irc.
Ah, for some reason I thought it was Nadja. Haha.Right! Take a look at the annotations on the page from which I've taken that fragment, as it includes Mr. Yamaga and Mr. Akai version of the story:
Thanks to gwern (as always)! For the effort in making the extensive information compilation.

:lol live in sin? Is this the 60's or something? Neither Chihaya nor Taichi are Catholic anyways.
You'd probably be right. Considering what I've read on Japan and women's/men's roles that is, although I'd really like to learn more. As I mentioned earlier there was quite an interesting discussion at a The Girl Who Leapt Through Time screening I went too, but I am sadly ignorant on the subject.I just assume Japan is more conservative than America.Mostly because Asians are Asian. lol
When did this show become Evangelion? Also it would be pretty tight if the next episode previews stopped spoiling the, well, next episodes? Cause
might have been posted earlier in the thread but crunchyroll are now streaming some stuff in (probably upscaled) 1080p:
Crunchyroll to Now Stream in 1080p
Yeah! Like the bunch of amateurs they were. Those unfamiliar with the events can see here the famous explanation by Mr. Takeda itself:

I really liked it, but then again I haven't seen Nadia.Atlantis is awful, too. Internet loves it for inexplicable reasons.

With the exception of the few moments of fanservice (Which the next episode seems to have more of), I really enjoyed the show. The colors are vibrant and the protagonist seems interesting. The fact that she doesn't get all emotional upon being given the challenge set forth is refreshing; the show even has a reasoning behind Madoka knowing how to fight and defend herself.

This is probably the best summation of the characters in the show that I've read and I largely agree with it. The show works pretty hard to present both Taichi and Arata in a good light, rather than highlighting one as the obvious 'winner'.Taichi isn't perfect, but I would argue that his character has seen a good deal of growth towards maturity since he got involved in the karuta club - as he has settled into his role as the leader of the club, encouraging and supporting Chihaya and everyone else on the team, he has increasingly learned how to keep an eye out for the needs of others and respond sensitively to them. This is the main reason why I like him as a character. (I should add I like Arata as well!)
Also, I have a hard time believing Taichi has conscious romantic intentions towards Chihaya, given the attitude he takes to Arata's interest in Chihaya (e.g., in episode 13). I'm sure the suppressed romantic tension will boil over eventually and the characters will have to deal with the fallout of that, but that will not be Taichi's fault alone, since none of the central triangle have been clearly communicating what their feelings for each other are. It's doubtful any of them are clear on their own feelings themselves.he hands off the passed out Chihaya to Arata without any overt sign of jealousy
Ben-To's next episode previews are pretty good, in the sense that they do not preview anything about the next episode. You should never, ever watch the next episode previews of anything. I don't trust the people who make those things not to spoil the most interesting parts of the story.
One of the rare exceptions is Penguin Drum, because they deliberately construct an image that relates to the content of the next episode without giving too much away. It's hard to imagine most creators care enough about the 'next episode previews' to put that much effort into them.

I enjoyed this greatly. I would like more of it.
As a mobile phone user I've come to respect that people have limited screen size when browsing GAF, so it always bothers me when people quote posts without breaking the image urls. Quotes between quotes do not get copied automatically, thankfully! Also, are you quoting your own picture?

The sales of Chihayafuru are sad, but not unexpected. Hardly a show that'll appeal to the Japanese otaku who buy anime BDs. I wish the situation was different, but there it is.

Welp I know what show I am putting on my list now that I dropped Shitty Crown.New work by Norimitsu Suzuki, animator behind Eureka Seven's and FMA's wonderful EDs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fc2t85VkDM&feature=youtu.be&t=14s

edit: wait that's cgi, i thought you hated cgi
Well the song in it is catchy. I also thought I saw cat ears too.
Looking at sales of DVD/BR in Japan, how in the fuck is this industry still alive? It must exist as one of the smallest profit market industries in existence. I'm actually amazed that anime still exists to be honest. Maybe that's one reason why I still buy so much stuff. I just don't want it to die.
This cracks me up everytime, animegaf must have some amazing fanservice filter when it doesn't involve loli's or something. :lol
