An actual OP this time. And it owns. gg Shaft.

I know you're trying your very best Hanazawa, but there's no saving this role. Also I don't know whether to be thankful or feel gypped about the brevity of um... that Twister scene.

Shaft, you and your classy camera angles. I want more Karen, she's awesome already.

What an intense episode. The Queen is definitely a force to be reckoned with, but Chihaya has managed to stand up a little bit, too. It's rare to get this much focus on one match, but the episode was really strong because of that.
 
Highschool DxD 1

Well, it's definitely not a porn. The animation budget is waaaaaay to high. Unfortunately the pacing is slow as molasses on a glacier for the first half, though I think that's because the MC is the goofy high school pervert to the level of tragic farce of itself. The second half really got the ball moving much better. Some of the gags, like the alarm clock were decent, but I gotta wonder if this is gonna be able to properly balance the blatant fanservice (that sudden fuzzy white bar was a damned slight) with decent enough plot and good action. I'm guessing no.

Oh well, maybe if I loose track of it, the BD releases will get rid of the CENSOR BARS and such.

Rather than make excuses for having him pop-up and somehow interact with the characters he's kept off-screen most of the time. This makes it a little bit harder to predict where the show will go next as it seems more interested in introducing new characters at appropriate times than simply focusing on the core cast which the series started with.

It seems obvious that the Queen and Taichi would know each other, as they are both high-level players. I have no idea where the manga goes, but presumably it's back to Tokyo for the rest of the series, at which point they can just have the Queen and Tachi hook up off screen or whatever.

In all seriousness, I'm not a fan of how unstructured this series is. It doesn't really work for me. Of course it didn't help that this episode was a step down in quality across the board, most noticeably in animation, cinematography, editing, shot blocking and use of music.

Technobabble Space Pirates 02: The first half was a lot better than last week's: not a lot happened in terms of plot, but characters started acting like characters instead of cardboard cutouts that happen to live in a futuristic setting. Then it got dull again when they started doing "pirate" stuff, for irony's sake.
On the other hand, we got a very brief glimpse of what an Internet Piracy anime would be like. I would actually be up for that!

This show dangerously treads the line between boredom and indifference.

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai 1

Up until the title card, I thought it was rather sweet. Goofy college BS (and he's a lit major just like me!), off the wall teachers, hot babes, hazing, and then nicely juxtaposed with a family scene so sweet I think it gave me diabetes. Cajun~

And then it start to go downhill. Raika is pretty awesome, so there is some hope to this show, and the eldest sister having a crush on him is kinda cute I suppose, but as soon as they brought the loli pantyshot into play, my heart sunk. If the adorable 3yo didn't suddenly show up for the d'awww factor, I probably would have gone to the corner and cried.
And then he walks in her the eldest changing. Why cruel world, why? ;___;

I do have to say though, his face slowing turning to that of horror was definitely .gif-able. I'll have to do that later.

I go back to my proposal on real piracy making this show better. Or better yet, Bodacious Internet Pirates!

The main character would be a dude with incredible Google-fu skills. He's famous in 2ch/4chan for his abilities to elude authorities, multiple accounts, I don't know what the fuck. Being able to torrent stuff without leaving any tracks, uploading media for the masses. Conflict would be introduced when a mysterious organisation called SHAMPOO starts shutting down webzones indiscriminately. It is up to our bodacious protagonist to rally up a band of rogues to fight the power and save the interwebz as we know it. A subplot would consist of him meeting a hot girl online with tubular hacking skills, taking his heart and his porn.
She would actually be a covert agent for SHAMPOO, trying to destroy the pirate group from the inside. Also, she's a man.

Not that I am condoning such actions, but it surely sounds more bodacious than what we are getting.

I thought it was nice that she managed to hold onto her banana parfait during the action and finish it off. Chiaki and Marika make a nice team. Curious of what Kane McDougal is doing, thought he, Ririka, and Misa ought to be trying to get her prepared to be a captain.

Nice fight between Evergreen and Erza that lasted just up to the title screen. Other stuff happened but I am liking the pace of how the anime is going.

Anyone else here thinks that Hibiki will be replaced before the end of the series?

There was that one comment about her being "twisted" for cheerfully jumping into battle, she isn't the girl in the ending animation, and she has less screentime in the op than blue, aside from the very first scene. One of her scenes in the op even is stock footage.

Yuri pandering in the second episode was really forcing it though. Every named character is a lesbian or something? I really hope they won't push in that direction so hard again.

With Hibiki only having fragments of the relic, I cant imagine that she can last long.

An episode or two devoted to electronic warfare, instead of jumping into wacky pirate hijinks? Colour me impressed, most anime seems to gloss over hard science fiction elements like that.

I can't really decide the rationale behind the lack of twister, but I have a few theories.

1) The director realised it added nothing to the plot, so they didn't bother showing it (but then why not cut most of that whole scene considering there wasn't really anything that furthered the main plot. Nadako's character wasn't developed, she hasn't changed at all and nothing interesting came out of her conversation unlike, say, the Arararagi's interatcion with the snail last week.)

2) They didn't have time to animate it.

3) They're saving it for the Blu-Ray release.

4) A combination of 2 and 3.

In a very real way it's your own fault for any thinking that any anime with such a premise would turn out classy. Admittedly it has happened in the past, see Koi Kaze, but those are exceptions.

Also.

Araragi getting raped, I wonder if that's also going to be BD exclusive. SHAFT branching out to that fangirl demographic?

So we've visited all the harem members save for Hanekawa, and got a glimpse of Karen and Tsukihi. Which means next weeks episode might actually be worthwhile to watch for something other than fanservice.

No it won't. It'll be naked Hanekawa this time.

I adore the ED. Was the tv series any good? I've had the dvds forever but never bothered to watch it.

If the best thing you can say about a shows animation quality is that at leas the OP looked good then you're in trouble. By default the opening will nearly always look good, the fact it has to be mentioned at all is a tribute to how lazy last weeks OP was.

Of course, all these discussions of OP vs OP is completely and utterly tangential but I felt like bringing it up anyway.

Incidentally, while the Karen OP is clearly a step up I still don't think it's that great, especially compared to the really impressive SHAFT OP's that I've seen in the last few years.
