[Nisemonogatari]
I can't really decide the rationale behind the lack of twister, but I have a few theories.
1) The director realised it added nothing to the plot, so they didn't bother showing it (but then why not cut most of that whole scene considering there wasn't really anything that furthered the main plot. Nadako's character wasn't developed, she hasn't changed at all and nothing interesting came out of her conversation unlike, say, the Arararagi's interatcion with the snail last week.)
2) They didn't have time to animate it.
3) They're saving it for the Blu-Ray release.
4) A combination of 2 and 3.
5) They're being faithful to the novel.

If the best thing you can say about a shows animation quality is that at leas the OP looked good then you're in trouble. By default the opening will nearly always look good, the fact it has to be mentioned at all is a tribute to how lazy last weeks OP was.

Of course, all these discussions of OP vs OP is completely and utterly tangential but I felt like bringing it up anyway.

Incidentally, while the Karen OP is clearly a step up I still don't think it's that great, especially compared to the really impressive SHAFT OP's that I've seen in the last few years.

Shaft is too busy animating Kizu and the Meduka movies to worry about silly TV shows.

I have now all my anime DVDs and some VHS cassettes (even I have no VHS player anymore), so I can watch all the classics. Who needs new animes?

The opening song is classy - http://youtu.be/p2vxlZkfW-Y
Nice animations especially for people with a faible for hair animations.

The TV opening is magnitudes better:

The show is not worth watching though.

I see I've been beaten.

This is how I roll, right here.

WHO THE HNNNG IS THAT?!
Homerun 2.0. Heck, even they're even same monotone voice.

Speaking of which, while the Space Pirates thing is turning out to be a shounen with a girl lead (much like Symphogear) and is mostly boring/average, some of the mother-daughter bonding scenes actually had some thought behind them:

Otherwise, there's not much going for this show. Waste of a good title. :(

Nise 2: Haters gonna hate, but I still love the editing/shot selection.

In a scene all about gaze, there are so many eye shots. Even this shot/reverse-shot matches up perfectly, with eyes being partially obscured. I can't believe that this was just a lucky accident.

I'm kinda busy right now so I can't go through the recent dip in standards to figure out what needs to be culled, but it needs to stop.

Nisemonogatari 2

The courage to shamelessly sell BD's.

The courage to not give a fuck about animation consistency.

The courage to downgrade the bangs.

The courage to be Shinbo.

Dat OP. Dat ED. Dat Kanbaru. Dat SHAFT. Dat AOTY.

Space Pirates 2

zzzzzzzzzzz

A lot of this episode focused on the technical aspect of fictional space stuff, something I don't care about at all. Will give it 1 more episode to see if it realizes its potential.

My rundown of what I watched today.

Shows I'm glad I watched:

Persona 4 ep. 14
Bakemonogatari 9 - 15

Shows I'm not really that interested in watching but still gonna watch anyway:
Symphogear ep 02
Aquarion EVOL ep 1-2

Shows I probably should drop post haste:
Inu x Boku ep. 01

Persona 4 ep 14 and Bake eps 12-15 were totally wonderful. Symphogear and Aquerion are pretty meh but I'm hoping they'll get more interesting (might drop Aquarion sooner or later but I think I'll stick with Symphoger till the end). Inu X Boku: WHY AM I SUBJECTING MYSELF TO THIS?

Overall, I have too many anime on my plate currently so I'm gonna need to start dropping shows soon.

If we're going to expect sports clichés to play themselves out as they normally would then it's pretty easy to see the Queen as being your typical rival character - the kind of person who competes with the protagonist in all areas of life. However, if the show were to indulge all the traditional anime clichés then Chihaya, Arata, Taichi and the Queen would all have to attend the same high-school (for no particular reason) just to keep the level of 'drama' high.

Of course, they haven't gone down that route and one of the reasons that Arata has had so little screen-time is that there's no 'good' (read: logical) reason for him to be appearing in the show all the time. Rather than make excuses for having him pop-up and somehow interact with the characters he's kept off-screen most of the time. This makes it a little bit harder to predict where the show will go next as it seems more interested in introducing new characters at appropriate times than simply focusing on the core cast which the series started with.

There's been plenty of scenarios where Arata could have been both characterized negatively, and brought in now with plausibility, but the decision to not have him show is a larger one, I both believe and detailed up in the post. Especially,
since they had him show for a second at the tourney, leave a note, then leave, basically means that he was brought in for audience fanfare,
but is really being saved for 'last boss.'

Having them all attend the same school isn't even needed. Kind of like Firehawk mentioned below, karuta's there to keep them connected.

It seems obvious that the Queen and Taichi would know each other, as they are both high-level players. I have no idea where the manga goes, but presumably it's back to Tokyo for the rest of the series, at which point they can just have the Queen and Tachi hook up off screen or whatever.

I see Taichi going with the Queen too, but it'll just be to beat Arata, who I'm also guessing already knows her well--
according to the director or whoever it was, it's only been a year since he stopped competing in tourneys. He's run into her plenty.

Kind of like I mentioned before, I still imagine that at some point, Taichi will come to see the ladder like this.

Arata-->Queen-->Taichi-->Chihaya-->And back around.

which will then have him do this, believing himself to be 'helping' Chihaya:

Chihaya-->Arata-->Queen-><-Taichi

But he really won't be and there will be TEARS. I think the actual result all kind of depends on how genuine/antagonistic the Queen is written to be.

Wikipedia tells me it's just 2 OVA's...

Meh what's the harm.

Seriously, watch it. Love it or hate it, its very existence is beyond human comprehension and will definitely give birth to emotions you didn't know you had. Even better if you can watch it in a group. Watched it in my anime club the first time and it was incredible.

[Nise ep. 02]

Dat OP. I don't know if I can handle this much fanservice lol. The last bit with Kanbaru
"raping" Araragi-san
was hilarious.
