The snakeloli part wasn't as pedo as I thought it'd be. It was pretty pedo, but it didn't cross the line into very pedo, or uberpedo. Nadeko ineptly trying to seduce Koyomi was endearing in a way, although still rather pedo. It helped that the art was so derp for most of the time spent with the loli.

Nise 2: Haters gonna hate, but I still love the editing/shot selection.
In a scene all about gaze, there are so many eye shots. Even this shot/reverse-shot matches up perfectly, with eyes being partially obscured. I can't believe that this was just a lucky accident.
I wouldn't say I'm hating on Nisemonogatari but I do feel that it's a clear step down, in terms of the direction, from last season. The lack of Nobuyuki Takeuchi, who storyboarded the first five episodes of Bakemonogatari (as well as the SHAFT episode of Penguin Drum) is noticeable. Perhaps they're focused on making the movie, or something, either way they haven't even achieved the consistency of Bakemonogatari.
Strangely enough Denpa had consistently higher quality animation than any other recent SHAFT show, apart from Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru.
yeah this episode didn't seem as interesting as last week's but I still found it enjoyable. i'm not sure if i'm liking this as much as Bakemono so far either but I'll keep watching because reasons.
They waited till now to pull the childhood friend card? Really? lol. The Mana storyline could have been something neat, but why wait until now to introduce it? It's really pointless.
Episode ended alright enough I guess.
Totally saw this coming from the beginning,
since it seems like Gai will now be replaced by a confident version of Shu.
Well, sure. But the series has always been playing to the voyeurism of the (male) viewer. I just find it cute that they wanted to make sure those same viewers understood the irony.
I don't think Taichi would necessarily know her, since he is class B. I mean, Chihaya has been playing all this time too, and this is the first time she's seen her, having just moved to class A.
Arata and the Queen presumably have had a long history though... and I can see some situation whether she hates him for giving up because they were supposed to be Master and Queen together or whatnot.
Either way, I have to imagine the series will just end with team/character building rather than relationship stuff. Given that the manga is like light years ahead and that the show bombed on disc, they're probably going to find a rather safe spot to end it - like the guys who made KnT did with their S1 finale.

To be honest, I don't remember anything from S1. My amusement/amazement at Nise comes from the banality of the last few anime seasons more than anything else. There is still a signature here that I don't see in most animus made today.
Nisemonogatari 2 - I liked the direction of this episode better than the first in terms of editing and visuals, but it still feels only "okay" at this point and is missing something compared to bakemonogatari, whatever I'm entertained at least, even if the fan-service is completely shameless.-_-
Basically the classically-trained professional musician's life in a series. Practically all of it is highly realistic from teachers, to conservatories, to national views on music from other countries, to performances, contests, and overall life of a musician. The studies in foreign countries are accurate, practice habits are the same, all of it. All of it is very true to real life, even some of the things people may think are exaggerated.
Yuri pandering in the second episode was really forcing it though. Every named character is a lesbian or something? I really hope they won't push in that direction so hard again.
So, the show had stopped being about investigating supernatural occurrences and incidentally acquiring a harem and now it's simply a harem show. You might argue that's it's just a superficial change and that the work is being more 'honest' with itself - but I don't think that's true.
The fact is that while Bakemonogatari had a very route, predictable structure, it worked. There was a clear point to each arc, and logical reasons for why intervention from Araragi was required. The encounter - investigation - revelation structure kept everything chugging along. Now it's just about, well, Araragi being a creepy dude?
Something that dovetails in very neatly with this change is the amount and the severity of the fanservice. Consider the first two episodes of the original show - each episode had a bit of fanservice at the beginning (in episode two's case quite a lot) but then it dropped off quite dramatically. Even when it appeared there was sometimes a reason for it, in Senjoughara's case it set up quite a bit about her personality, for instance. Of course, male-gaze was a prevalent feature of Bakemonogatari but to nowhere near this extent. This is Ben-To levels of male-gaze.
In Nisemonogatari it's just there, and it's in every scene and every encounter with every girl, multiple times, often for no reason. It goes beyond 'male gaze' to full on shots of characters naked for literally no reason. It's fairly perplexing and rather stupid, especially when shots of characters naked (with no context) are just inserted into a stream of still pictures.
Yes, despite stuffing the episode with fanservice they can't even make it interesting. If you go and re-watch Kanbaru's interactions with Araragi in the original show they're rather playful with a clear erotic undercurrent, but it's mostly a verbal back-and-forth with well timed editing to create a particular mood.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who found the audio choices dreadful. It's not like the original show had a lot of musical tracks but it didn't use them poorly.
Still having a blast watching all this trash unfold in front of my eyes. I see where some of the complaints are coming from but I also don't have any trouble dismissing them as long as I keep being entertained.
And dat Kanbaru etc, etc. Those BDs are going to be glorious.

Another noticeable staff absence is Tatsuya Oishi, series director of Bakemonogatari and director of its best episodes (1, 8, 12). The new series director for Nise, Tomoyuki Itamura, just isn't on the same level.

That's pretty much how it is in the Manga. Apart from the occasional hint here and there, the story is more centered around karuta than relationships. Although the more recent stuff have apparently been hinting on the manga focusing more on the relationship side. I also think it'll end at a safe spot, but it would be really great if it got a second season... :/

Oh, bad phrasing; I meant that Arata probably knows The Queen well enough, since it hasn't been long since he quit the major tourneys. But yeah, if the manga really is that far ahead, I doubt the show will even get into the drama I'm thinking up. Disappointing, but the otakus have spoken.

The thing is that the individual stories became longer after Bakemonogatari. The structure is the same as before (trivial banter -> supernatural occurrence -> investigation (+ more banter) -> resolution), but it takes longer to go from one step to the next. Not really a problem in novel form, but TV episodes are still 24 minutes long, so...
We'll get there in episode 3 (4 at worst).

I think it airs in the same timeslot that Kaiji occupied, and that got 48 episodes in the end despite less than stellar sales from what I remember . . .
Obviously, what Chihayafuru needs is a shitty live action drama made in Taiwan.
Yeah, no doubt. And while i'd say read the manga, there's hardly any chapters that are actually translated. My curiosity got the better of me so I read spoilers from people who read the raws so I have a good idea of what goes on.

Heh, that makes sense. I feel like that's why Taichi's girlfriend just disappeared. Maybe the writer realized that the whole love triangle thing was a waste of time and decided to move away from that as quickly as possible.

Well, the flip side is that people also hate drama, so... well, heck, they should just pull an Adachi and have something horrible happen to one of the characters. Haha.

As if. I'm surprised it got made made at all and now I'm surprised that it's not just an eleven episode show. So yeah, I'm pretty sure this is all we're getting.

I suspect both Kaiji and Chihayafuru are focused on promoting the manga more than selling the anime itself. Going back to the chart Jexhius posted:
~500
Mostly anime where disc sales are not a main concern from the beginning; either truly insignificant shows or close to it.
Ex: NHK anime, Children’s anime, Pay channel shows (WOWOW, etc), Nippon TV late night shows, Gonzo shows, IG Original shows, etc

Just about, yeah. Although no producer would turn down actual DVD sales. Ratings-wise I think Chihayafuru is holding up somewhat (think ep13 got like, 1.9%), although a little down from what Kaiji hovered around from what I remember.
I really look how NOT-CLAMP the Blood-C movie looks; definite improvement over the Clampish look of the TV show. The more we get away from Clamp's style, the better.

Haha, my bro, I know that feeling all too well. My curiosity is also the cat that knows no restraint. At this point, I've just stopped fighting it. I took a look at what's available though, and you're right; It's way behind even the anime.

I don't ever think the girlfriend was to be a central figure, as much as she was a device to expand upon Taichi's character; show what the dude's capable of. It'll swing back around, I'm almost sure. The romance is still strong with the series.

I love the trolling between Araragi and Kanbaru. Surprising how effective the
"Your BL is too mainstream" angle
was. Kanbaru=
yaoi hipster
?
Moretsu Pirates 02
Marika was pretty passive in the first episode, so I was glad to see her demonstrate some agency here.
The overall pacing is pretty nice. Marika's not getting plucked from high school straight into commanding a battle or anything, but the show's building up to it while still maintaining some excitement.

Well, what would you have them do? Get rid of the trivial banter? It's a pretty big part of the series' appeal (and so are the characters... I guess a plot-focused adaptation would have gotten rid of Hachikuji, Sengoku and Kanbaru altogether).
... Longer episodes?

Unless there's another tournament at some point, or the show decides to just swap points of view, I have to imagine that the romance will be mostly absent - at least in the anime.
