The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

More pics of random things.

Why aren't you guys posting this in the US thread? I thought that was the main thread for now.

I'm no pixel counter but it does seem to be native. If not, then it's at least a larger resolution than Uncharted and Gravity Daze. Not that it's a big deal, IMO. Uncharted and Gravity Daze are both gorgeous on the Vita screen. I took a ton of pictures during my Uncharted playthrough but the compression pretty much ruins them, so I'm wary about showing them to anyone lol

We're all lost after the Japanese Vita thread was closed for no apparent reason.

WipEout is literally the one reason I want a Vita right now. I haven't followed the other games closely enough to gauge my interest, and the lack of online multiplayer in Modnation Racers kills my desire for that title dead in the water.

Not a fan of either control scheme to be honest. I wish I could map my own controls because the X button isn't a great place for the thrust or weapon functions. That second analog stick is in the way and the bottom of my thumb isn't comfy sitting on the second analog stick.

The best control scheme for me is one putting the weapon button on the L button, thrust on R button and brake on square.

Gorgeous game though. A real showpiece for the Vita. Even more so than what I played from the Uncharted demo.

One more month.

Vita - the line up from now and for a while is pretty crazy - i just wonder if they'd spread the "launch titles" out a bit more they could have had more focus. Not that i care! :P

this week : Wipeout - Stardust
next week : Tales
2nd Feb : Ragnarok Odyssey
9th Feb : Gravity Daze , Sumioni
16th Feb : Good people die, Fifa, Lumines
March : MLB THE SHOW
March : Ruin
March : SF x Tekken

Apparently Silent Hill and Resistance in there too?

wallet is going to be significantly slimmer after this (+3ds games , but that's not for here!)

SF X Tekken is in march!? Is that NA as well?

no idea for NA, and the list i was looking at might be wrong.

Wow, that load time is ridiculous. 38 second. How is that even possible on solid state media?

All that awesome takes time to load, it's awesome decompression tax.

I'll remain hopeful! That would be pretty sick. Already planning on HSG and Lumines at launch, SF X Tekken a month later would be great (but not for my GPA).

lol, N64 and Mario 64 came out just as i was hitting my final year project deadline and revision for my final set of university exams. Tough times.

That would have destroyed a lesser man. This semester is really light for me, outside of Calc, so I should be fine. The rest are all easy elective courses, so it should be smooth sailing.

Should.

Anyway, has anyone used any of the party features for Vita? How do they perform over Wifi? I'm really interested, as I plan on partying up with some folks in HSG on occasion.

I agree with this. If Vita games are going to take any serious amount of time to load that system's chances of success are drastically slashed. I'm at the point of hating load times and start-up screens on home consoles; on a mobile platform that's just totally unacceptable. I should be playing your game in under ten seconds from deciding I want to.

At 38s that better be some amazing compression. How big was the demo? Edit: 404MB? that's crap. It hardly justifies those load times.

Ask Ridge Racer 3D that.

That's just sad, Takao. If you're going to go into fanboy defence mode, at least do your homework first. 11 seconds vs 38 seconds. Whist neither are ideal that's not even with the same ballpark.

But no, go on, it'd be silly of us to discuss the shortcomings and bad design decisions of a game without having to turn it into some sort of fanboy war.

I'm pretty sure the long load times are the fault of Studio Liver Pools own incompetence/bad priorities and not a fault of the system itself. Assuming the cards can be read at a sustained speed of at least 30MBps (which is hardly unreasonable) and 128MB of the system RAM is reserved for the OS and sub apps, then the longest load time possible for data that does not need to be compressed or procedurally generated is 17 seconds. I suspect the Vita cards are actually much faster than that, though.

That's made me remind metal gear solid 4 OMG .

By the way i hope they fix loading issue .

Because you know i check uncharted 18s & I check many game more than 15s.

mmmmmmm.....by the way before i give my comment as a truth based .

I should check vita in front of me.

Because i notice big drop frame in many uncharted video .

we will wait & see only few days until Vita arrive.

you are seriously confused if you think studio liverpool is incompetent.

The loading times are pretty ridiculous, but it is absolutely gorgeous. It's strange though- this is the only demo I can't get to work on my US PSN account. Just switched accounts, and it seems like it is tied to the JPSN store. Other demos like Virtua Tennis, Gravity Daze and even Dynasty Warriors are not like this.

Awesome doesn't have byte limits - it's one of those etheral things... like potential, calor gas, and jesus.

The Shinobido 2 demo, the Toro game, and some others are also like this. Sucks, because I wanted to keep the WipEout demo on my NA account while I continue playing Uncharted. :( Oh well, if the game is mostly English I'll end up importing it soon anyway.

Also, the loading was ridiculous on mine as well, but I was fairly sure it was because I was downloading the Shinobido 2 demo in the background. The second and third times I loaded up the race (after the download finished), it was faster... but I did not time it, unfortunately.

Jesus Christ, what an absurd thing to say.

So a studio working with fairly new hardware and having difficulty getting around hurdles = incompetent? How's it feel up there on your high horse?

Pretty good actually. I like high places. How does it feel to be desperately scrounging around for half baked excuses?

Put plain and simply 38 seconds is just downright terrible. To get load times that excessive you have to work for it. Clearly Studio Liverpool had their priorities misplaced during the development of the game to allow such a thing to happen. In my eyes that shows some incompetence on the project managers side because all it would have taken was some better planning to get the load times to a reasonable state. Sure, that would have meant that something would have had to have been compromised but then again, that's what good project management is about, making the most of limited resources.

To simplify things a bit, the competent thing to do would be to set a reasonable load time target during the early days project and stick to it, like a lot of other devs do.

Gents, this is the one open Vita thread - can we try not to shit it up too much?

I'll try not to. Shitting up this thread isn't my intentions.

The load time is just the initial startup right ? Unlike PS3, Vita allows you to turn it off in the middle of a game. You should be able to jump right back in when you turn it on again. So load time may not affect you that much.

You should be able to switch apps in the midst of a game too. Web browser is the only one that doesn't multitask right now. It will be patched in later.

Wipeout demo looks really, really good. Native resolution, or very close. Sharp and "I can't believe this is on a handheld" style. Loading time for it was long like people said.
Can't get a handle of the controls, but I'm not a Wipeout fan anyway. Only bought one, ever for PS3. I'm in the lab today, so I played sound muted, otherwise others would be pissed off, so no wabwabwabBRRBRRR for me. Motion controls I had no idea how to drive. Wall meet my jet, jet meet wall. Did not see any settings for those, so have to try again later if they can be tweaked.

Keiician: I have no trouble of peeling stickers from Vita. Take a photo of them and store somewhere safe. Or, use clear nail polish from the missus to re-attach.

no worries - i'm not questioning anyones intentions nor was i singling anyone out, i'm just liking the fact we have a nice Vita thread going. Perfectly fine topic to debate, just everyone needs to keep their pieces in their holsters!

I'd say all you need to do is ignore the issue long enough and it will inevitably get really bad. But like others said, this IS a demo, those are hacked together almost by definition...

I remember the Snake Eater demo's loading, it was literally like a minute to get the menu up or something equally obscene. Why does performance differ so greatly with some demos? I can't imagine it's just because the game isn't finished yet.

Turning off the autopilot and setting the "Wipeout" control scheme turned out to be a good idea. My best time so far is 3.33.41 (1.09.88 best lap).

Whatever it is, they need to share it. Much better advert for the system than the others we've seen so far!

Image dimensions match, or do you mean if the game itself runs at that resolution natively rather than upscaled?
I think he means the latter.

I like wipeout, but I'm pretty shit at it, so I'm usually happy to potter around the earlier classes. Which means I'm unlikely to play much multiplayer, so I could import the physical card..

Does this have leaderboards for time attack etc? While I'm unlikely to play online, it would still be good to view my relative crapness with leaderboards
