Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Paraphrasing a friend's opinion on Batman Arkham City: (This was a real "conversation")

This is the worst game I've ever played. It's just as bad as Superman 64 with the flying through rings thing, and don't get me started on the combat, it's just 1 button shit for mental retardants, Bayonetta is much better and all I used in that game was the XYX katana combo. I was talking over the phone with my girl without looking at the screen and just mashing X and beating the crap out of everyone.

There are bad games, but Batman is actually TRYING to be bad! Playing this all the time is like playing a game while someone punctures your ass with a needle. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the name Rockstar in it, I couldn't believe how they could make this shit, Rockstar never makes bad games, but then I saw the light, it was made by RockSTEADY and I let out a sigh of relief.

I can't believe I wasted 50 pesos (less than 4 US dollars, give or take) renting that piece of shit, I mean, when I rent bad games I at least force myself through them to get at my money's worth, but with this? the one hour I gave it a chance is precious time I'll never get back.

All the time I was laughing at all his nonsense, we're good buds, but his tastes in games are sometimes questionable, I mean, he thinks Dead to Rights: Retribution is a much better game than "magnetic butt cover shooter" Gears of War. Sometimes I think we 3 with our wide-ranging variety of tastes should make some youtube videos with this stuff, at least I think it's funny enough.

I have trouble taking opinions on action games to heart if they come from people that are completely unfamiliar with the process of trying to single credit clear arcade games.
Man, GAF's douche filter is on leave today. What a pretentious, wanky, elitist remark. Opinions are opinions and all, but jeez, were you trying to sound like a tool?

Who actually has the commitment to try to single credit clear an arcade game? That's, like, sexual sublimation at a 13 year old level of obsession.

Pixel/frame-rate counters are doing it wrong. Philistinism in its purest form.

What are they doing wrong? I'm sure that if "artists" could guarantee no less than 60 frames at 1080p, they would. Im not knocking all console exclusives that are lacking in framerate and resolution, but they are.

I dont think that Street Fighter III 3rd Strike is the best fighting game ever.

I don't know how unpopular or uncommon my opinion is, but just putting it out there:

I believe Nintendo is going to have a difficult time this generation moving in to making HD games, considering how much of a difficult time many large japaenese game companies have had putting out titles. I'm afraid they are not prepared for the kind of resources it takes to make a realized 3D world for a game like Zelda or Metroid, and we'll see few big first party releases on the Wii U.

I think the 360 dpad is better than the DS3's, and actually use it for fighting games on a regular basis. My hands hurt if I try that on the PS3.

I've only played parts of ICO but don't think SotC is anything special. The framerate was especially sickening and the game actually passing QA in that state is pathetic. The fact that Ueda is held so highly baffles me.

I don't like Sonic games at all, even the classic ones. I used to play them a lot as a kid, but when I try to replay them now I just get bored and/or annoyed.

Demon's/Dark Souls are put on an insanely high pedestal that they don't really deserve, though I do think they're good to great games. They are not that difficult, especially Demon's, which is horribly balanced and a complete snoozefest as a mage.

Resident Evil 5 is the best co-op experience I've had, and Resident Evil 4 is the best in the series and one of the best games of all time.

The wii is the most disappointing console I've ever owned.

Mass Effect 2 is a much, much better game than 1.

I can't believe I forgot this one;

Team Fortress 2 (2007) > Team Fortress 2 (Current)

I agree with this too, though the added maps are good.

The original Metroid is almost unplayable because you start with nowhere near full health. I used to think it was the lack of map that caused this, but it's that fucking lack of health at the beginning. Metroid II made me realize that, because I find that game to be playable right off the bat quite easily.

TF2 used to be great, but the Mann-conomy has made it unplayable.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was great, FFTA2 was good, FFT was okay at best.

"Casual" games, esp. time management and hidden object games, do have a lot of shovelware within the genre, but overall are underrated.

Sorry dude, I'm usually really picky when it comes to action games. It's served me well. I spend a lot of time playing a lot of great ones.

I'm sure I sound like a tool to some. Comes with the territory when being selective.

It's not.

It's this bad boy right here:

But cramping your left hand into a weird Tetris-brick shaped claw, just so you can awkwardly navigate your avatar in 8-digital directions with no control over your speed isn't retarded?

How often are you ever not going at a full run in FPS games? That's what I thought. The only time you are, you are usually crouching. Even so, many PC games have a speed modifier key (maybe shift or toggled by Caps Lock). Having that precise aiming with the mouse is definitely worth all that.

Well that was just a general statement about the movement in that game. If you face a melee creature, you'r best bet is to back away and shoot while doing it.

And I hard'd that game from the first run man.

A birthmark.

You make it sound like it's a typical shooter though. You still have to aim for the limbs, and specific enemies have weak points you need to shoot. It's not far off from RE4.

I think the thing with Demons\Dark Souls is that you can make it harder for yourself than it needs to be. The lack of handholding means you can find yourself banging your head against a brick wall if you stubbornly keep trying the same thing. Theres usually always an easy way of doing something, whether it be by using a particular weapon/strategy or just summoning help. Being patient and taking your time is often way more important than having any kind of skill though obviously that helps a bunch. The whole thing about being punishing is overblown too. All you ever lose is souls which you can earn back again. Compare that to a roguelike for example and it doesn't seem that punishing at all.

its not awkward when you have 2 or 3 fingers dedicated to movement, and if you tap the keys (which is easier than moving an analog stick back and worth), as well as press crouch, you can easily control your speed.

Didn't mean to rail on you, but it seemed like a needlessly rude way to say, "I like old school arcade games". But whatevs.

I think Need For Speed: Pro Street was a 10/10 concept in a 6.5/10 game. Building cars for different types of racing (grip, drift, drag) was cool.

i really think all the rewards for Mortal kombat in 2011 are overrated.

Just because they finally did a correct MK game , people a drolling over this game as if other fighters didn't innovate in their own way this year...

Mortal Kombat is overrated and i don't think it is as deep everyone seems to think this year ..

During my 3 attempts ( play session 50 minutes on average ) i didn't see any gameplay particularity that would make this game anything other than average. BUT hey after 5 pathetic attempts to make something "ok" they finnaly succeeded...

All this love for MK is weird ..i don't understand the appeal of this game ..

I loved Assassin Creed Brotherhood and think is better than revelations (even if I also liked revelations). I say this because ive seen a lot of people hating Brotherhood.
Also Constantinople was not an interesting city. Rome, Venice, Florence and the rest of villages of AC2 and BH are much better.

And think that Altaïr is fucking overrated, starred in a fucking piece of shit game and Ezio is more awesome, fun, and better character and has MUCH better games.

The Mortal Kombat series gets my vote for most overrated franchise of all time.

I agree with this too, though the added maps are good.

Added maps is always a bonus, but it's not something I take into consideration when comparing current TF2 to original.

They've completely an utterly destroyed most of the skill involved in that game. I first started noticing this with the Spy, using The Clock and Dagger. For a very patient player, it's pretty damn easy to bag in a couple hundred kills while suffering only a few deaths.

There is just too much imbalance to the game now. I still play the game, but I stick mostly to 2Fort and Demo-man class.

I don't think a soul on GAF would disagree with any of this. Common opinion is Revelations is the worst AC game since 1, Brotherhood or 2 are the best, and Altair is a dick.

Well, what do you think is a better way of playing arcade games? Credit feed then complain that it's over in 20 minutes and it was so easy?

I haven't ever 1CCed any arcade game (though I've 1CCed a number of arcade-style home console games and got to like the 4th of 5 level in ESP Ra.De.), but it's entirely possible to do, as the countless Youtube superplays attest.

Ive seen lots of people here defending Altaïr as if he was a great and profound character, that Ezio was shit, and that brotherhood was horrible, so i dont know.

Heck, I even know some people which said here that AC1 is a masterpiece and much better than the good games that came after.

If putting your hands comfortably on keys "is cramping your left hand into a tetris brick" then you must have problems using computers, or really probably anything.

Assasin's Creed 1 is about on par with Mindjack for me in terms of quality.

I just don't get why Mario is around these days. I'm not talking about gameplay mechanics, these are great platformers. Why has this IP has been dragged through the decades? The italian plumber made sense when they were making arcade games that required no story. To continue building this zany world with princesses and monsters is ridiculous. It makes no sense and I defy anyone to care about what's going on in these games. It was a disposible idea back when it was created and now it just won't die.

Because it sells millions and fills Nintendo's coffers? Anything that is profitable will keep being made until no one's buying it anymore.
