Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I don't know, it's hard for me to understand getting super worked up at a thread like this. I don't think it's ugly at all.

I get happy every time a fan game/fan remake gets the cease and desist. Those people are just milking franchises they don't even own and stealing attention from proper indie devs

"Indie dev" isn't a thing, let alone "proper indie dev."

You want controversial? I put Uncharted's gameplay over any other third person shooter/action adventure this generation. ;)

But again, I can at least see how you could think this, even if I don't believe it myself. Maybe the game just gelled for you. That's cool. And hardly controversial. Hating on the popular and loving the unpopular is not controversial. It's rote. It's entirely par for the course when individual tastes are involved, and since almost every single person in here is expressing a matter of personal taste, it ceases controversy and becomes another paint-by-numbers "what do you like/hate that everyone else does/doesn't?" thread.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together has one of the best stories ever for a JRPG, and while it has a bit of your usual anime teen-angst drama, it largely revolves around political intrigue.

I'd say is better than just about every story told in the main Final Fantasy numbered games.

and this game came out back in 1994!

Far Cry 2 is a bold, innovative, amazing experience that I wish more game designers would pay attention to.

People who praise "motion controls" but aren't "into the fps genre" should "shut the fuck up."

I enjoyed Brink.

eh? how is indie dev not a thing? And by proper in this case I mean people who don't rely on copyright infringements to get attention

There's no consistent definition of what an "indie game" even is. Look at what a circus this thread is: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458174

It's a sloppy term that, when used, does more harm than good. A made-up category to shield one's game from legitimate criticism, to elevate certain development limitations over all others, and to place one's game over "dependent" games.

It definitely got a lot of shit, and it's a shame. With a little more polish from Splash Damage and proper AMD driver support from the get-go it could have been great.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I guess there's isn't really much that can be classified as controversial when it relies too much on opinion in this case.

I think that Crackdown was a horribly boring game.. I ended up playing the beta for Halo on that disc more than the actual game.....

The only noteworthy parts about either of those games are the stealth parts. Assassin's Creed is only really good when you are trying your best not to get caught (which usually means the best missions are the ones with instant failures).

that doesn't mean that they are stealth games...
let's say that the only noteworthy part of Bayonetta is the racing part (lie), this would make Bayonetta a racing?

As far as I am concerned stealth isn't a genre and is something that can be incorporated into just about anything.

Also you don't actual "race" in Bayonetta.

I think Superfrog on the Amiga is more fun and looks better than any of the Super Mario and Sonic games.

Driver 3 is a better Driver game than Driver San Fransisco

Metroid: Other M is my favorite Metroid game.

I like Wii Music.

I prefer modern Sonic games over classic Sonic games.

I dislike iOS/mobile games.

I dislike PC gaming.

I am content with Nintendo's online strategy.

I don't like overly violent video games.

Zeldas have been boring and mediocre ever after Majora's Mask. While Wind Waker had novel graphics, it's gameplay got really boring halfway through - a stretch of yawn the series has been on since, just with mediocre graphics now.

I think this is about as "controversial" as other posts. The point is opinions that you don't usually voice.

Dude, this is GAF. Opinions are voiced rather brazenly and at wholly inappropriate times. I'm always defending Other M, always ragging on RE4, and I see everyone else doing the exact same thing with different games, but it's not really of any importance.

Where the fuck is the controversy if I say I don't like Half-Life? So I don't like it. Who cares?

Stealth is a genre MGS is an example of pure stealth game ergo you don't like stealth games

replace race with shoot em up sequences duh...

I pretty much agree with all of this. Only problem I have is #3, I love DLC, but I don't like it when shit that was packed onto the disc in an older version is now sold as DLC in the newest versions. A lot of FPS' do this because they can release maps later, so they release the game with 8 maps, and then offer DLC that should have been on the disc, and charge premium for it. I also don't like it when DLC fractures a community. This is terrible in Battlefield this year.

That's understandable.

I have to admit that I haven't really experienced the 'bad' of DLC. Or it just hasn't bothered me that much because I dont' actually buy TOO much of it, or wait for sales.

eg. Picked up the Gears 3 season pass for only 1800. So gooooood.

Oooh... I'm liking this thread.

- The Uncharted series is overrated.
- The term "hardcore" and "casual" have been seriously warped this generation. "Casual" last gen meant Madden-ittes and dudebros that just played Madden and Halo (now CoD.)
- 999 is overrated and average at best, but overhyped because 1) It's a borderline visual novel so its defenders condescendingly refer to any criticism as "u don't have an attention span/VN not for u," 2) There's a quasi-intellectual schema in psychobabble that sounds a lot smarter then it actually is and 3) it's from Japan, and not many people have heard of it in the mainstream so of course it has to be good.
- Gaming will not remove itself from the stunted man-child stereotype that it has until the gaming world starts approaching the industry with some integrity. The game press is the vast majority of the problem.
- GTA games have been the same since GTA 1, just in a different perspective with better graphics. GTA games in general are okay but not nearly worthy of the hyperbole they receive.
- The first 3 months of the 360's life span, playing PDZ were the BEST. No reason to fear using your headset with strangers, no 12 year old pre-pubescent kids. It's been downhill since then.
- The Vita is a waste of money. I don't give two shits that I can bring the console experience on the go, or "transfar" my experiences back to my PS3.
- Skyward Sword's music was bad. I'm glad they orchestrated it, but the actual score was not nearly up to what the standards of the series best.

There's more, but I gotta run. :p

  • Super Mario Sunshine is a fantastic physics-based platformer
  • Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption is a great RPG
  • There is only one good New Super Mario Bros. game (Wii)
  • Minish Cap is the 1st good Zelda since Majora's Mask and until Skyward Sword
  • Fable 1 is the best Fable game
  • Uncharted 3 single player is not a fun gameplay experience
  • Saint's Row The Third is the first good Saint's Row game
  • Nintendo was pandering to Dead or Alive fanboys with the release of Metroid Zero Mission - I personally blame them for all respect I lost toward the series as a result of the explosion of Zero Suit fanart
  • After enjoying the hell out of Infamous I found the mediocrity of Infamous 2 bewildering
  • RAGE is future Texas
  • Dragon Age 1 is not terribly boring, just lacking a strong voice
  • Outside of End of Evangelion, nothing good will ever come out of the Eva franchise
  • As a result of the games that Giantbomb chooses to not cover, it is impossible for them to be a good videogame website
  • The most compelling reason to turn on my PS3 or 360 is Netflix - Netflix is also on my PC, Tablet, and Phone
  • Thanks to the the games on iPhone, I don't want to play games on any handheld platform - iPhone included
  • Sonic CD has terrible level design

I don't like Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD.
MegaMan 8 and MegaMan 9 were completely unnecessary and complete steps back for the franchise.
Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? is the best MegaMan game ever.
Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City have boring combat, but are still great games.
Ace Attorney stopped being good after Pheonix Wright stopped being the main character.
BlazBlue is the best fighting series ever.
The only mildly-enjoyable Zelda game is The Minish Cap.
Skyward Sword Zelda is CREEPY AS FUCK.
Luigi's Mansion and Wario Land 2 are the best Mario games ever.
Luigi, Wario, Rosalina and Captain Syrup are the only good characters of the Mario franchise.
Hitoshi Sakamoto is a crap composer.
I don't like Mario.

Loved Warioland 2.

I loath the controls for Skyward Sword. The motion plus isn't accurate and feels like a half assed cheap gimmick and it has made me no longer want to play the game.

Splinter Cell Conviction was my GOTY 2010 and I consider it the best in the series next to Chaos Theory.

N46 Controller was the worst controller in the history of man and I am sure it was designed by a 3 armed mutant chimp.

GTA: SA was the worst in the series. God CJ was a whiny annoying little bitch.

Mario Galaxy 1/2 aren't very fun.

Elite beat agents is tedious and ruins your screen. Avoid.

Valkyria Chronicles is trite, boring, and broken, though the core gameplay is really fun.

Folklore is one of the top 5 PS3 exclusives.

Tales of Monkey Island isn't very funny.

FFXII is best final fantasy.

Mega Man ZX is a really good game, and way better than ZXA.

Mega Man 4 sucks.

Mega Man X3 sucks.

Gamecube was nintendo's best console, based on first party effort (because it was the most varied and interesting, even if the quality may have been superior on SNES or NES.)

Skyward Sword is bad.

Minish Cap is slightly above "meh".

Spirit tracks is great (though I admit the train travel is OMFG terrible, the rest is fantastic.)

I think Final Fantasy Tactics is the best Final Fantasy game out of that entire franchise. Out of all of them, across all consoles/handhelds, FFT has them all beat.

Pretty much. If I didn't get enjoyment out of them I wouldn't buy them at all. Yet here I am. I just find it funny when people slobber over them and say they wish more games were like Uncharted, and that they raise the bar for what gaming should be. Great for them, taste and all, but not for me. A future of Uncharted-like games would cause me to quickly become disinterested in the medium. What I love most about gaming, and what attracted me to the medium in the first place, is not where Uncharted excels.

On the other end of the spectrum, I know people who were attracted to gaming (partially) because of Uncharted and what it does. There's something for everybody.

I definitively agree that the Uncharted serie is overrated, but you still have to respect the great technique and polish going into the games. :)

Naughty dog has acquired a reputation for crafting beautiful games with great art , spectacular setpieces, solid voice acting and decent writing, great hollywood style action and camera angles. Outside of that, it's nothing mindblowing when it come to pure game design. I definitively don't need or care to have more game executed in the vein of Uncharted outside of the polish that goes into their games (which is something that all game developers wish to have to begin with) .

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together has one of the best stories ever for a JRPG, and while it has a bit of your usual anime teen-angst drama, it largely revolves around political intrigue.

I'd say is better than just about every story told in the main Final Fantasy numbered games.

I don't think this is controversial among people who have played all the games mentioned. Tactics Ogre really is that good.

Ninja Gaiden Black is an amazing game, easily my second favorite game of all time. People who did not try the Hard/VH/MN mode after "beating" the game played it wrong.
