Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I get happy every time a fan game/fan remake gets the cease and desist. Those people are just milking franchises they don't even own and stealing attention from proper indie devs

I feel offended by this post considering the fact I started off as a fan gamer which eventually lead me to being an indie dev.

wat?

the only good 2d sonic is Sonic Advance1
I was about to call you crazy but then I've remembered Anth0ny's post about Sonic 06 being somehow better than Colors...

I definitively agree that the Uncharted serie is overrated, but you still have to respect the great technique and polish going into the games. :)

Naughty dog has acquired a reputation for crafting beautiful games with great art , spectacular setpieces, solid voice acting and decent writing, great hollywood style action and camera angles. Outside of that, it's nothing mindblowing when it come to pure game design. I definitively don't need or care to have more game executed in the vein of Uncharted outside of the polish that goes into their games (which is something that all game developers wish to have to begin with) .

The Uncharted games are great interactive movies. In terms of actual controls and gameplay (especially gunplay), they've never been particularly good.

Which is mind boggling given how tight the gameplay was on Crash and Jak & Daxter. Did someone leave Naughty Dog after Jak & Daxter that was responsible for this?

I don't think I've ever experienced more, glitchy, unnecessary, control based deaths in a game than the Uncharted series as a whole. It's like the game doesn't follow it's own rules when it comes to control, and changes it's mind on the fly as to whether to be lenient or strict on how much grace it gives you. Baffling.

Majora's Mask is the most overrated game in the Zelda series. Not saying I dislike it, but the esteem to which it's held is ridiculous. It's not that good.

Zelda 2 was better than Zelda.

Both of those games are terrible.

Golden Axe Warrior was better than Legend of Zelda for enemies, map, and bosses. It was far more playable then and remains so to this day.

Ax Battler: A Legend of Golden Axe was better than Legend of Zelda 2 for combat. Not that it made it a good game either.

So many to choose from...

* I hated Zack and Wiki. The stupid "fake Japanese TV show" style annoyed me, the pacing annoyed me, the puzzles seemed insipid. One of the very few video games I've stopped playing out of a mixture of annoyance and boredom.

* SMB3 > SMW and Link's Awakening > LttP. (These are less controversial, but still against the NeoGAF mindset, or so I've gathered.)

* Voice acting annoys me as it slows down the pacing of a game so much. I'd rather have a wall of QUICKLY/INSTANTLY scrolling text to read than wait 30 seconds for someone to speak it out.

* Maniac Mansion was far superior to its sequel, Day of the Tentacle. MM had more pathways through the game, more endings, more possible options... DooT was far more linear.

* Metal Gear Solid annoyed me with its stylistic choices and the really, REALLY, illogical "breaking the fourth wall package puzzle." Granted, it could have simply been that I had been playing the GC port and perhaps the language was wrong in that hint, but it annoyed me. That, and the game seemed to waffle between "this is a spy game" and "this is a parody of a spy game" every few seconds.

* Tetris is better than Panel de Pon.

The PS1 version said "CD case" which is far more obvious.

Oh, another one - if all game development ceased tomorrow, I probably wouldn't even shed a tear. I'd probably pour one out and then go back to playing some obscure Saturn game.

Here's another one:

I always liked Sonic over Mario. Sonic is cooler.

The Mario Kart series is over rated, Zelda games are over rated, Elder Scrolls games are over rated, Uncharted is over rated, God of War series is over rated, Gears of War series is over rated, Blizzard games are over rated, Valve games are over rated.

I wouldn't claim any of these games are bad, they just receive too much love for my tastes.

Where the fuck is the controversy if I say I don't like Half-Life? So I don't like it. Who cares?

Don't play it like that, half the fun of gaf is knowing that some guy out there deeply cares and would like to have you assassinated in case you spread your "wrong opinion" to other people.

I mean, there are people who worry that sales are super important to pay attention to because the console you bought will get more games if it sells better.

All multiplayer FPS games with spawn points(once you die) require very little skill and are counter to the true nature of what FPS games should be.

Hmmm...

- While Ive owned every Nintendo system, I dont get how people defend the Wii. I just dont. Ive even come around and am loving the 3DS, but I dont get the Wii. Mario this, Mario that, Zelda, and a bigger AAA game to shovel-ware ratio than I can remember any system having.

- Ill steal this one from a few post up.... Little Big Planet is awful. I like the art style, I like Sackboy, I like doing everything except actually playing the game.

- Can't stand PC gaming or hate when games Im interested in are also available on PC. I dont want to spend days figuring out why Im getting glitches or lag or frame drops or crashes. I dont want to download drivers for my video card, trying to find the right match. I just want to play the game. And if I take a minor, or even major, graphical hit to just play the game, than I will do so every time. When a game is also available for PC, the threads are impossible to actually find impressions on the game. Its all "here are my specs" and other PC related topics. I remember Metro 2033 being a horrible offender of this.

- Mech Assault 1 for XBox was one of the best online experiences of last gen... and I dont care for mech games that much.

- Resident Evil 5 is my favorite RE and believe all RE should have online and couch co-op.

- Fallout 3 was terrible.

TWEWY is the best SP RPG Western or Eastern to release since the DS/360 started this generation.

Also Oblivion is fucking terrible.

-I'd rather piss glass than play a turn based RPG-

-All baseball games suck because there is such a thing as too much realism, seemes they've forgotten the fun factor and focused too much on stats, batting stances, and multi year franchise mode. When an old series like R.B.I. is more fun to play with its fun as fuck over head batting engine there's something really fucking wrong with today's baseball games-

-Wash,rinse,repeat,only at it to today's top dog sim racers. Too much realism, not enough fun factor-

Ever try The Bigs/ 2?

The decision to make a title a sandbox title instantly dooms it to a collection of mediocre portions.

Gotta get this out of my system

I think handhelds are a waste for gaming at times. I get annoyed when a franchise I like gets a handheld game because I see it as a game that could've been done on a current main console. I don't enjoy playing what I like to call "full console oriented" games on handhelds. I think they are good for creative small games that take advantage of the screen and the platform's strengths. Using Sony handhelds as example, I think games like GOW, KZ and Resistance are a waste and the size of the screen makes it even worse.

Also, my hands seem to hurt after a while with every damn handheld. I think handheld gaming it's pretty overrated overall. Even on phones and tablets.

I'm sure most disagree.

Jrpgs are garbage. Everything, from character design down to the story.

There are exceptions though, like Chrono Cross, or FF6. Gameplay is irrelevant in every single one of them anyway.

Everything from Kojima post MGS1 is garbage.

I hate current-gen sports game, though I can't stop playing Fifa. It's flawed, unbalanced, unfair, plagued by EA online inconsistencies. I don't think this is even slightly controversial.

Most of the time I think Steam is the worst thing ever. Than Origin comes to mind. xD

Handhelds are useless. A waste of resources, money and time.

*hides*

I wanna say yes but I dunno anymore. Does it play somewhat like Ken Griffey baseball?
Curious to check it out more though. Does it have an overhead batting camera ala R.B.I.?

Sorry, I'm the wrong person to ask. I just know the Bigs is a ton more arcady than say, The Show.

I have played Ken Griffey back on the 64 but it's been ages.

Right. I'm gonna go buy a second Wii and second copy of Other M now. Then, just to be a bitch, I'm gonna tell both how much I love them and how special they are to me. Then, if I'm getting a little sauced (as I hope to), I will probably try to make love to them.

No,no.. I appreciate you bringing the series up. Because even though its pretty vague on what I remember now,I remember liking the Bigs but I played maybe just 20 minutes of it. Will have to go back and check it out again. Don't care of its a few years old and with outdated rosters. To me a great baseball game lives or does based on its pitching and batting engine. I prefer overhead ones. Its ironic... I'm not a big Nintendo fan all that much but boy I really use to enjoy their Ken Griffy series. They nailed the feel for a fun baseball game back then.
I've tried the Konami big headed baseball series but nah that thing makes me wanna vomit too. Call me picky I guess. But if they brought back RBI and gave the game some great computer A.I. I'd be in hog heaven. haha.

Xenoblade is way overrated. People are overhyping because it's a niche JRPG on the Wii and it's surrounded by the whole Project Rainfall controversy. Now I'm hesitant about importing The Last Story when it comes out next month.

Please. Not in front of the baby.

I also still dig out the Atari 2600 and play Pitfall II every once inawhile. When reaching for my box of carts I proudly laugh and smile...cause I own a few copies of E.T. Ha!
