New comic series to reveal the secret origin of the Jedi

I am really shocked and disappointed by the cynicism on Gaf. I expected a lot more people to be intruiged by this series.

Also for those asking about the Sith, in SW lore the sith are actually an alien race that worshiped the Jedi as Gods and so the Dark Jedi enslaved them and incorporated some of their beliefs into their doctrine. That's how the Sith Empire formed originally. I believe this series predates that.

I think if you're only familiar with the movies, the EU is at best overwhelming and at worst ridiculous.

Not fan fiction.
So Vader actually reunites with C-3PO (although memory-wiped)?

I think I want to read this :P

Right I get all that, but racially is the red dude in the OP a Sith?

People are going to think only of the movies. If they didn't like the movies, why would they possibly care about anything else Star Wars?

I don't get it though, why SO much passionate hate towards Star Wars and it's expanded stuff?

Saying stuff like "adding more detail ruins the series". Just because it's written doesn't mean that you have to read it, or even care about it - you could just allow yourself to know about the original series or not.

Personally, the only things Star Wars that I've ever involved myself in are the six movies, and the KOTOR games - THAT'S IT. It's not the be all and end all of Sci-Fi like some people seem to say or think, personally I don't get the fascination, but I'd definitely be intrigued to see what they could come up with for the Jedi Origin's story.

Personally, the best Sci-Fi is Battlestar Galactica, however that doesn't feature aliens, so if we're talking about Sci-Fi with Aliens, then I'd say I like the world of Trek a bit more than Wars personally, but honestly the broader 'sci-fi' world of Andromeda is more interesting to me than Star Wars, however the series really flunked at pulling it off so it really sucks, but the ideas and the world of the Sci-Fi I find a lot more interesting than Wars. But without a doubt, B5 kicks all their arses with regards to galactic politics and real grimy realistic Sci-Fi.

I think I need to watch Star Wars again though, I haven't watched it all for at least 5 or 6 years I reckon... and the original series... well, probably not like 10 or 15 years maybe. I just find the idea of the 'The Force' really, but maybe that's because I don't really understand it - so this kind of interests me - but I don't know how they will pull off a good way to explain the whole thing that so many people have the ability to harness midichlorians and 'The Force'.

Actually, now after reasoning all through that I can see why there is so much hate, Star Wars really is not that great, it's way over-rated for what it is, and 1 - 3 were good visual effects fests but I don't think they lived up to peoples expectations story wise, they certainly didn't blow me away.

Yeah... what's with so much negativity... WTH?
All the negativity is coming from people who aren't familiar with the EU beyond the garbage Yuuzhan Vong books and Jedi Academy shit. It's par for the course. Most of the attention given to Star Wars these days is just "THE PREQUELS RUINED MY CHILDHOOD, GEORGE GIVE US THE ORIGINAL OT".

The Legacy comic series is one of the greatest Star Wars stories ever, with the greatest Star Wars characters ever devised, so I'm definitely excited to see Ostrander and Duursema do their thang again.

I've never read a Star Wars comic, but when I was younger, I was way in to the novels. Loved the Thrawn series, as well as the X-Wing stuff.

Eh, I enjoyed the Yuuzhan Vong books, but they definitely fleshed out that war for too long. It would have been better had they told that story with half the amount of books. I thought all aspects of the Yuuzhan Vong - hierarchy, beliefs system, technology - were fascinating. Yuuzhan Vong spoiler
The highlights of those books for me were the deaths of Chewbacca and Anakin, and Vergere mentoring Jacen in unorthodox Jedi ways. Though, I understand the backslash of Chewbacca's death.

Honestly this is not worth getting that upset over anyway since I am sure this is just fleshing out a lot of what is already known with a few retcons here and there. Information on the founding of the Jedi Order has already existed before this series.

Because it's all so very, very bad.

Canon is Star Wars, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and the Ewok Christmas Special.

Everything else is after-the-fact bullshit slapped together and rubber-stamped for a quick cash in. It's all shitty fan fiction, some of it just happens to be THX certified fan fiction.

:) Indeed.

George Lucas doesn't understand what the word "balance" means.

His definition of bringing balance to the force is to have thousands of Jedi and zero Sith. Even the appearance of 1 or 2 Sith is "unbalancing".

How the fuck is only Jedis and no Sith a "balance"?

It wasn't balanced, it's just the Jedi had become so arrogant and blind, they claimed that No Sith=Balance.

Vader brought balance to the force with his slaughter of the Jedi, resulting with Sidous, Vader, Kenobi and Yoda being the only survivors.

Unless you count EU which has Mara Jade, the Apprentice, Jerek, and other force users running around.

bal·ance
noun

1. a state of equilibrium or equipoise; equal distribution of weight, amount, etc.
2. something used to produce equilibrium; counterpoise.
3. mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc.

The only interesting use of the Force, Jedis and that whole mess was in KotOR II. It was better when they were using Jedi teaching more as philosophy than some sort of measurable quantity in the universe.

In my humble opinion of course. Star Wars mythology seems far too complicated outside of originals before it started getting bogged down with its own convoluted ideas.

It was ridiculous to have a Jedi army. It was just another bad idea piled on top of many bad ideas.

The Jedi lost all sense of wonder when they were used as Lucas' cannon fodder in group battle scenes. Or when the emperor cut two (three?) of them down in about a second and a half.

The movies are just a drop in the bucket. With all the novels and a bajillion comics from Dark Horse, I'm surprised there hasn't been a lot of complaints about Star Wars continuity.
Or has there?
I know how anal comic fans can be about continuity so I'm sure there's a bunch of Star Wars experts who analyze and critique every fragment of that universe.

There isn't a lot of comic choice for science fiction fans. I don't mind an occassional mini from Star Wars for a sci-fi fix but I'm not going to get all wrapped up in all that Dark Horse backlog.

What else is there for sci-fi fans? You have to try European books to get a decent science fiction comic. DH Star Wars isn't great, but it's not like there's anything else providing competition.
