Resident Evil 6: Bro-Splosion Announced, Nov 20 PS3/360, PC Later, PR/Trailer In OP

Bio0-3: 1998
BioCVX:1998(? Who cares, Code Veronica sucks, deal with it nerds)
Bio4/6: 2008
Bio5: 2009(? Or is it 08? Forget)

Seems Capcom is tending for this to be the end of the 2008 storyline before moving into 2013 I guess.

Wait what, Resident Evil 6 is set before Resident Evil 5 as well? Bit stupid that.

It looks like Leon will have the superior campaign. lol. Glad to see that they look like they're going to try and fake the horror angle, this time.

Where is Claire though? :(

After REmake, I truly don't understand how people can say the series never had a scary game...

We shall see about Revelations. Moving on to the classic style... RE0 and REmake pretty much got it down to a formula. What could be better than the pre rendered backgrounds, high poly character/monster models and classic gameplay? They certainly have characters who don't see much use and it'd be a good way to get some money out of them.
i played it today. i don't have to wait and see. i understand that half the game is like the demo and half the game is more like RE4/5. the demo section is more like classic RE games than any part of RE4.

I'll make sure to check out Revelations down the road, but they released it on the wrong platform if they were hoping to cater to those fans. I don't have a 3DS and I'm pretty sure that making it a first year title on a Nintendo handheld that looked DOOMED at first didn't exactly make RE fans go out and buy the system in anticipation. Still, I'll make sure to give it a whirl down the road when I buy the 3DS revision. Mario Kart 7 pretty much guarantees that I'll have the system in my hands sooner or later.

the game was announced before the platform. it will be the second Resident Evil title released on the platform. what RE fan wouldn't buy a system that had two announced titles in the franchise for it? the 3DS didn't look doomed BEFORE release, just in the few months after launch. it definately has been very much undoomed since the price drop.

RE6 isn't a game for fans of the old school Resident Evils. that's fair enough. it's fair enough for people to be disapointed in Resident Evil 6. but to be mad at Capcom and the franchise when they've made a game for the people that didn't like where the series was going with 5... that's what's boggling my mind.

the demo came out TODAY guys. there's loads of impressions of it in the official thread. the game needs support and you guys bitching about how RE6 hasn't done a 180 and turned into a game more like the earlier games should head over to that thread to see what Revelations is all about.

those of us who also enjoy where 4 and 5 took the series, could then enjoy this thread a little bit more. you'd be happier, we'd be happier.

Wow... this could possibly take place before Bio 5. Hadn't considered it really. Would explain Jill's absence at least (Chris sounds pretty down on himself too).

Personally hope it takes place after.

EDIT: If that's the case, maybe this will be the RE where Chris drinks tons of muscle milk in between the fighting to get his boulder-smash physique.

Let me guess they ditched the females and are using Hulk sized chris and Leon to A) appeal to a western "dude bro" audience (despite the fact the first seven RE games sold gangbuster without trying so hard) and B) because they want to keep emulating RE 4 and RE 5.

Forget the sonic cycle, its more like the Resident Evil cycle

Thats exactly why.

We've played chris already in RE5. The next step would of been leon and claire. But you know, dat western market.

What a joke this game is.

I don't think there is such a thing as a smaller budgeted RE game :) Well, the railshooters excluded.

I understand the longing for classic RE, but I think some series can't afford to be left behind because the old-school fans want them too. The premise and power of the IP would be a waste not to modernise in this day and age.
Eh... I don't like that the classic classic style is gone, but I could accept it if the games started to move towards RE4 on consoles again. It seems like Revelations is more like that which is good. Still, being on another platform makes it a whole other deal. Rebecca, Billy, Barry, Carlos and Claire are just sitting there not making money though! ;)
Being on a handheld is what allows it to be both 'AAA' for it's platform, and be produced for a smaller budget, and being a high profile exclusive for a new platform means plenty of co-marketing which reduces the marketing budget.

If Capcom wanted to make a straight up survival horror game today with the production quality the series is known for, the 3DS was the perfect platform to do it on.
It sucks if this is the only avenue for RE games in that vein. The 3DS is more of a best case scenario situation than ideal model if you are looking at it from the new platform angle.

I'll totally welcome the RE Horror goodness(except that chick with the crazy puffy hair) on the 3DS if it becomes a model and not a one off because new hardware smell.

This is pretty cool. I'll have to play it whenever I go see my cousin who has a 3DS.

Take it easy. I haven't made it my crusade. I'm not the one acting all high and mighty about this. I know I can't change a damned thing in regards to RE6 at this point. Use some of that aggression on people who actually display towards folks who are generally excited by the game(can't see why myself, but whatever).

This is a great day to be a Resident evil fan.

I've been hooked since I bought resident evil 1 in 96 (more like my parents bought it to me).

Speaking as someone for which the resident evil series is his favorite, I think people should get over the whole "old school vs new school".

Capcom has solved this problem, and I believe resident evil 6 will be the best resident evil to hit store shelves.

The days of pre-rendered backgrounds are over.

-RE4-style re with more horror ? --> Revelations (Try the demo !!!). It's like lost in nightmares, even better !
-Online multiplayer cover shooter --> ORC
-The best of both worlds ? Wait for RE6 !

Wait so are all the campaign parts co-op? All parts meaning Leon, Chris, the mysterious third character, and Ada's campaign?

i dont get most of the complaints tbh

most of the complaints solely revolve around this game being called RE6. most of us are completely cool with that, but the people calling it 'dudebro' and 'generic' and 'pandering to the west' almost certainly wouldn't be if it was a new franchise.

they're angry that Resident Evil has been turned into an action series for the most part (ignoring the more old school game coming out in two weeks). it makes them blind to the fact that it's turned into an *awesome* action series.

Regarding RE games being scary, IMO the series hasn't been frightening in the least ever since RE4 launched. RE1-CV had the random jump scares, but even they didn't induce true fear, though the setting was moody (especially REmake)

Good trailer. Lots of gameplay footage. And a release date that's within a year from the initial announcement? Capcom deserves points for that alone.

Right now I don't really care whether this is survival horror or whatever, what matters is how fun the set pieces and gameplay segments are going to be. They're obviously trying to regain fans of RE4 who hated RE5 (like myself) while catering to fans of the latter as well. Hope they find a middle ground that's closer to RE4, somehow.

Sherry Birkin will be the final boss.
That would be freaking awesome.

The more I watch this trailer, the more I want this game. Everything looks so fucking awesome, and it's made by the greatest genius at Capcom, which is like 10x better than Shinji Mehkami.

RE0 - loved it
RE1 - loved it
RE2 - loved it
RE3 - loved it
RE4 - loved it
RE5 - loved it

I think there might be a pattern here, and RE6 looks even better than ever.

How disappointing!

Expected I guess.... Thanks Crapcom.

I hate you so much that I'm tempted to go ruin the JoJo scanlations.

How could the entire world going to hell not be referenced in RE5?

Especially the President of the United States of America getting killed due to a bioterrorism attack. :lol

Fucking Capcom.

I'm guessing it's probably an error in the press release. It'd all sorts of weird to have the global pandemic occur before 5 and have no mention of it in that game.

I hope you're right. Someone should follow up with them.

Just judging from the trailer, it looks like a spectacle action game but that's not the reason I fell in love with the series in the first place.

After the end of Resident Evil's big bad, I was hoping for a back-to-basics game that doesn't dwell with all these blah-blah characters but instead re-imagines the story from scratch. I would have preferred one that concentrated on one memorable location such as a mansion, without enemies everywhere but instead concentrating on dreadful, sole encounters... one enemy at a time, where remembering the map can be part of the challenge and every round count.

But that's probably not for this generation of gamers, I hope other people enjoy the game though.

... and they missed an opportunity to call it President Evil.

We get it thetrin. You love this game. If Capcom paid you, you could be their pitchman for this game. How bout this I tell all my friends to get RE 6 simply because a guy from NeoGAF named thetrin said so. In case you hadn't noticed, there are people who are excited about this game and people who are not. Deal with it.

I apologize for this, but you are all over the wall about this topic.

So did you miss the part where Philll said and I quote, "I'm almost convinced NeoGAF, for the majority, consists of kids who grew up on streamlined accessible crap. I don't care what you've played."

Hmm yes being dismissive of others opinions for simply being different from his own.

or how about this quote that was made in response to thetrin liking the trailer, "Typical comment from somebody who simply likes a trailer with no argument (or counter argument) to speak of, defending their fondness of mediocrity. Next."

Seriously its one thing to have a different opinion from someone else, but being so outright dismissive of someone who holds a different opinion than you, makes you a dick.

If anyone needs to be told to deal with it, it ain't thetrin that's for sure.

Buying it would help facilitate that.
Go buy me a 3DS then. It's not as easy as you'd think. This isn't like the gamecube that already had years on the market or the Wii which had a predecessor with the greatest RE game of all time. There were no expectations on a handheld that people couldn't judge.

Shit, most people couldn't even believe that Capcom could get the graphics and atmosphere of Revelations on there(I believed). This was not a surefire or expected bet.

Did the same. That was hilarious.

The happy face right up until he shoots himself hahahahahahaha.

I just checked the trailer again, I think there will be 4 arcs? I'm assuming:

Chris/some dude
Leon/????
New guy/Rebecca?
The last one is probably Ada but there was this half-second segment where an unknown female pushes away a zombie and it's in a third person perspective.

What if they made the President of the United States a playable character in Mercenaries?

...They should do that.
