Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

I think it's shaping up to be a great Endurance Run. I understand why people would flip out about them not getting the password, but considering they had no idea and the game doesn't exactly make it plain what it required, I think they did how anyone would do given 10 seconds or less to react.
I think that is the least of what people are flipping out on (in this case, I didn't see anything). Getting the pass the first time is not something everyone does. But some of the other stints they pull makes you question humanity a bit...just a bit.

And then there's the Sun Stone sidequest after Son of Sun which looks to be one of the more arbitrary ones in the game.

Jerky really?

It's all about the Naga Bromide.

Did you guys know it is supposed to be a risque pin-up of a Naga creature? ;)

The old man in Dorino is a damn perv.

AGH in episode 39 they had a chance to get ruby armor. GUYS THAT REDUCES FIRE BY 80% lol.

I'm glad that they are slowly learning some things, but when they don't read the armor descriptions it drives me crazy. Every time they died during the Giga Gaia fight and then went through their armor and dismissed putting on the Red Vest I quietly seethed.

I'm going to lol if they ever figure out they had the chance. They just needed 1 + equipping Bucca with her dress.

Edit: I know I am behind, but do they ever figure out Bucca's dress absorbs fire?

Solid last episode.

Everyone's fine with them figuring stuff out as they play. At least they equipped Brono appropriately so they had enough time to figure the boss out at their leisure.

Wonder how long it'll take them to finish that Sun Stone quest, it's a bit of a non sequitor with the stuff you have to do in 600.

At least they've been given the prompt. There's no reason to think that the request they were given is in any way related to the Sun Stone, but they have seen the prompt for the next step in the quest.

I still find it annoying that they'll use all the neglected characters but don't bother buying upgraded weapons/armor for them... and then complain when they end up dying fast or doing no damage.

It killed me that they went into the bar twice and talked to everybody EXCEPT the bartender that would sell them the jerky. It's a pretty vague sidequest, yeah, but they're SO close. I wonder if they'll ever figure it out or just skip it and beat the game.

What was that noise in the Geno Dome when they walked up the conveyor belt?

When they walk up there, there is a brief scene where a robot comes in from the right, passes behind the conveyor belt, and appears on the left. The sound occurs as a sort of "Ta-dah!" effect and they completely misinterpreted it because, as usual, they weren't paying attention to what was on the screen.

It's purpose is to show that you can go back there.

To be fair, I've never noticed that either. I just knew that the game had plenty of other examples where you could pass through walls, especially when there are arrows at either end.

Ah ok, I kinda missed that as well.

edit: I like how they keep not checking out the blue "tent".

I've been playing along recently and I had forgotten how short this game is. I am now on the DS version up to the same point they are. The only side quests I have left to complete are Cyrus' ghost, the Geno Dome and the Black Omen/Lavos final boss fight and my playtime clock is showing around 12 hours.

Yes, I've played Chrono Trigger a good dozen or so times before.

12 hours is pretty fast. I think they're up to around 26 hours right now, with only the sunstone quest and the black omen left.

Blowing through it, knowing 95% of the time exactly where to go and what to do. Still a ton of fun though. I also think the DS cart's timer is a little bit slow. I bet it's actually been a little bit longer than 12 hours.

They accomplished a lot today. The strategy to defeat Son of Sun was clever. I enjoyed watching them fight that boss - even Ryan and Patrick seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I forgot where you find the missing Moon Stone. Where is it at?

They've actually already found it. It's in 1000 AD at the sparkly house. They have to go back in time and give Jerky to the wife in the house; this will cause a ripple effect throughout history that makes the owner of the house in 1000 AD into a super-generous guy and he will be willing to give you the Moon Stone back.

About standard. My last complete run was a bit under 15hrs and I didn't go for speed.

Chrono Trigger spoiler
Ah. I see. I knew it was at the sparkly house, but I didn't know what they had to do to obtain it from there. I think this may be a tough one for them - they need to talk to that bartender.

Do these side-quests scale? I ask because people were bugging them about doing them earlier in the game, and man... if they don't scale they would've been slaughtered on some of these earlier.

You can't do them earlier. People were just wondering if they were going to do them at all.

I cannot foresee them figuring out how to get the stone back any time soon :|

Specifically,
they won't find the jerky because it involves talking to the bartender. They talked to everyone in the cafe today...except the bartender. I think Ryan thinks you can't speak to him because that counter is in the way.

This. They've been ignoring the bartenders in every pub they've come across. They managed to speak to the Nu in Kajar though, so there's hope they might flub into it.

I guess it's not an Endurance Run if they have to look for help online, right? Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to these things. Maybe they won't make it so obvious.

...

Now I'm curious how'd they fare if they have a Sonic 3 Endurance Run.

Ryan and Patrick have mentioned on a recent Bombcast that they will not look up anything regarding the game. The only comment they read up on was about Lucca's side quest.

So the time they forgot they had a flying time machine and wandered around for 20 minutes was fake? In the next episode they just casually went back to the 2poch and used it to time travel. I thought it was clear that they read the comments and found out they could fly.

They admitted that it was impossible to avoid seeing some comment with all of the social media they're a part of. With all of the Twitter messages they were getting after that particular moment you reference, I guarantee you they saw something about it.

It's almost like they think the one in 600 and the one in 1000 are different locations. They tried so hard to get to it in 600 and are deliberately avoiding it in 1000.

They went in there in an earlier episode, couldn't do anything, and after they thought about going back but one of them said they already cleared it out so they never checked it again.

Well, it was probably the only way that Jeff would have got the "true" ending in Persona 4 anyway.

Did anyone here ever realize that the Jerky item was also used in a somewhat unrelated Marle/King Guardia subplot? By accident I stumbled on that little throwaway quest on perhaps my 10th playthrough of the game many years ago. I think it opens up after you're first forced out of Zeal. Shame the only thing you get out of it is a little backstory on Marle and her dad. Well, that's not true... it does give you early access to the castle interiors where, at this point, you would normally be hopping across time to grab the elemental vests/armor.

Good, because there's no way they'd ever figure it out themselves. That's no disrespect to them, more to the relative lack of pointers the game gives.
