Not Quite Bodacious Yet Space Pirates 3

Still progressing slowly, but I'm bored. Characters are enjoyable, and there were a couple really nice pieces of music in this ep, particularly the one that started in when they were space walking and saw the amazing view of space. The visual+the beginning of the music was pretty well done.

But it has Kuroneko+

Oh, and for fans of eyeball shots I think weeks episode has more close-ups on eyes than any previous episode!

I suddenly want to rewatch Rideback

I remembered why I just enjoy Nisemonogatari for what it is - it is essentially a pervier, nerdier, David Mamet play. The characters all talk at each other smartly and quickly and it's almost always about showing your power through your ability to dominant the other person through conversation. I was thinking about how I would be perfectly happy if these were just radio dramas and that's exactly what I think about most Mamet plays.

And while the characters are in the process of trying to trump each other, they also make direct but non-pandering references to the audience watching the show:

I'll leave the context of that quote up to you to find out for yourself, but I thought that was just so sly.

Now I really wish someone would bring out Bakemonogatari and sub the "Gahara"/Hanekawa commentary tracks. I probably shouldn't say this, but I'd happily pay the 400 dollar idiot tax for that box set. Maybe if Nise takes off and Aniplex puts it out, they'll go back and do Bake as well.

I am still amazed that some of the ANN reviewers think this is the best show of the season.

Did I say bored? I meant not bored. Oops. I don't see how anyone could call it the show of the season though. I mean it has the makings of something that could be good once it actually gets going, but atm its kind of plodding to the promised bodaciousness.

Remarkably dumb opinions are pretty common on ANNcast. This is the same podcast that has some old guy who constantly pines for teen angst after all.

Where do you live?
I'm in a 100 mb/s ghetto so I guess I'll deal with it.

Heres a couple speed tests I just took. Speed is a little bit lower right now.

[Nisemonogatari 3 - More]

I think I appreciate this scene the most - because it was unlike all the other interactions in the show. Slow, weighty, thoughtful and with a male as opposed to a member of the harem. I suppose one might criticize the extreme use of colour but as the the actual 'world' of the '-gatari' universe is so ill-defined I don't find abstractions to be particularly bothersome.

Of course, this sequence was pretty amazing in it's own way (more eyeball shots!)

This was neat because it set up the history between him and Senjou/Hanekawa, as evidenced by the screenshot that Hosanna posted up-thread.
Although, of course, they also basically tell you about that relationship as well, which was a bit much.

This is true. :(
I really should just stick to the episodes where they interview industry people so that I can find out whether or not Funimation is going bankrupt or whatever crisis is befalling US animu nowadays.

It has good writing or something. My brain melted and it couldn't process English for a while when I was listening to the podcast.

I had those speeds for 4 years until I lucked out and got my phone company to move my line to a different exchange. :/

Aim for the Ace 6:
My, what long legs you have. I thought Prince of Tennis was ridiculous with how tall some of the characters were, but this blows anything from it out of the water. Hiromi was pretty impressive in her match, and the feint she pulled off was great. She's still relying a lot on luck, but she clearly has some skill that's starting to come out of the woodwork. We also get to see Toudou 'tighten her racket'. His stalking skills were on top form in this episode, too.

You could say the same for all anime threads.

Except here, of course (because new shows come out).

I don't know, something it feels like this thread is on loop.

Can't go more than a couple days without somebody experiencing the horrors of School Days / Arjuna / other god awful show people recommend just to laugh at the people who listen to them.

I meant, I didn't see what that shot had to do with Rideback, but I guess there's a similar one in Rideback's OP. It's not quite the same as the classic Akira slide though.

Yeah I figured you knew what it was. I just wanted to post that HNNNG picture.
You understand. It is 100% the Kaneda bike slide though.

I'm too lazy to do a top 10 that isn't a troll so just i'll just link my MAL profile so y'all can come and shit on my bad opinions™: http://myanimelist.net/profile/wonzo

Rinne is the best of the season, no contest.
Don't forget about the Roundcats.

Not surprising after their awful AOTY 2011 list.

I wonder if there's a way to put this that doesn't sound odd -

Have you started watching anime recently, or does it just happen to be the case that lots of recent shows go in your top ten? I'm personally quite wary of placing any recent shows (like Wandering Son) in my favourite anime list because 'recency bias' certainly skewers my opinions quite heavily.

Then again, I do find it odd that some of the very first anime TV series I ever watched are in my 'top anime list' - especially considering the hundreds of others shows that I've watched. Did they leave a stronger impression because there were the first ones I watched? Or was it because I deliberately chose (which I did) to try and watch really highly rated titles first?

Holy fuck 400 animes and you've been watching anime for something like 5 years (you said that not long ago) I've been watching anime for like 18 years and I haven't seen any where near that much.

It's actually only been four years. To be fair, I haven't completed a few of them.

where do you find the time to do this?
honest question.
I wish I could do this, because my collection is over 200 shows or something. But I just dont have the time to do it. Just marathoning one show takes a substantial amount of time.

Bodacious Space Suits 03:

You'd think spacesuits would make their bodies look LESS curvacious, but apparently in this show it's the exact opposite effect. Anyhoo I've gotten over the fact that this show is not going to feature anything resembling Bodacious Space Pirates, but I've gotten used to it and am still enjoying the show... for now. Things better start happening soon, because while Kuroneko m2 is definitely welcome once a week, the show's going to need a little more than that to hold my interest until the end.

Artwork is still quite nice though. ^_^

That's incredible.
That's one word for it.

I was at University. There's no-way one can do that when actually, you know, working.

Ah. Yeah that would definitely help. I was able to watch a lot of stuff on my off time when I was going to school. Now though, until we get our original schedules back, I have to watch things in portions. I cant spend every waking second of free time watching the stuff. I like to fit in some gaming, football watching, and chatting with you guys on here too. So really it leaves me with veryl ittle time to enjoy everything. although the fact that I can afford this hobby kind of makes it worth it I guess. I wont always have to work overtime and my anime will be there for when I can finally devote attention to it.

I'm the same way actually. I got most of my watching done during my undergrad, though i've only seen a little over 250 series. Also I worked as a lab assistant in a graveyard shift, so I was pretty much free to watch whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted because literally there was nobody around.

I don't think I can actually remember when I started watching anime... My earliest memories were of Sci-fi running saturday morning anime. I watched stuff like Akira and Beautiful Dreamer when I was like 8, haha.

They could divide it up into animation cell v. digital animation era.

That doesn't really work because some great anime have CG elements and may have pioneered the usage of it. Some other shows continue to be hand drawn to this day.

I used to watch anime without realizing it. A lot of what was shown on nickeloden in the late 80s, early 90's was actually anime. Most of it was licensed and dubbed by Saban.
