I haven't seen any of this yet, do we know who is who out of the orignal cast?
I've been hoping that Apollo would actually be the one guy that looked like a villian. I just think I will skip it if they turned Apollo into that new guy who really looks like a chump.
Well it is 12,000 years later, so the original cast is mostly all dead. Kagura looks, acts and sounds like Apollo (thought it was the same VA too before I checked and found out it isn't). There's definitely something going on there and it might be a similar situation to
Sirius and Silvia being 2 separate parts of Seliane.
If Sora is indeed partially Apollo, I hope he grows a spine at some point.

When Makoto started making out with Katsura right in front of Seika, my suspension of disbelief was completely shattered. Even Makoto, as fucked up as he is, wouldn't make a decision like that.
Then Seika killed Makoto, and I was like heh, who could feel sorry for him.
Then I realized Makoto was chopped up in Katsura's bag, and I lol'd.
Then Katsura stabbed Seika, and I was like ;_;
Then Katsura said there was no fetus, and I was like ??? Was Seika lying? Was she confused? Or was Katsura confused?
Then Katsura was on the boat with Makoto's head, and I lol'd again.
Good show. I'm normally the type of guy that gets all emo and depressed when a show ends on a depressing note, but who could take this that seriously.
I just started watching Chihayafuru and this is the saddest thing ever. I could never have predicted how much I would be enjoying it, but it's now (retroactively) my favorite Fall '11 series.
As an aside, hi AnimeGAF, I hope you have room for one more.
If you define good as a show with coherent plot consistent plot, lack of fanservice, and strict adherence to conventions and storytelling, then no.
If you like lots of mindless fanservice, watching Tomoki learn what it means to have the spirit of a man, and just overall a decent sense of humor and fun, then yes. The show is good though and does great justice to its source. The second season basically ended with Tomoki
meeting the mother of the angeloids, and he got another one added to the group (post Chaos now).
It's paced decently for what has essentially been two 13 episode seasons. They keep it concise, and that's fine by me.
The quality of the show and animation has been very good, just look at this gif for instance:

How about decent writing that isn’t insulting where every conflict isn’t resolved by abusing the same cheap trick of ass pull power out the ass
-Female character that are more then fanservice and side characters that are worth a dame.
- The later part of gl was just one endless wave of never ending fodder fight that went goes back forth from the good guys going “oh noz where outnumbered” to *more power out the ass* to back to oh noz and the cycle repeats over and over.
The sad thing is gurren lagan is probably the best mecha anime I’ve seen but that doesn’t make it good when it has the level of writing of low tier shounen filth but with mechas and nice production value.
It might be slipping already; I did lurk the thread occasionally before my account was approved. Wish I could have been here to discuss Penguindrum, but at least I made it in, I'm not complaining!

This was pretty fun. Great sense of humor and the art style complemented it perfectly. The animation was also top-notch, especially in the numerous fighting scenes.
It's starting to get more actiony in the manga though. Actual stuff is happening with the overarching plot and it's implied that things will take a VERY dark turn relatively soon.
Spending 5 billion dollars and 5 years to build the largest racetrack in the East, just to trap Lupin with it? I know you're an evil organization and all, but surely there are more efficent ways to use your resources. Like creepy torture devices:
(Nipples were shown, for those of you keeping count.)
Anyway, this was a stylishly directed episode, with smart transitions and cuts highlighting the scheming going on. I especially liked the car exchange sequences. I was a little surprised they didn't do much exposition to fill the viewers in on who these characters are, being the first Lupin III anime and all, but I suppose the manga was familiar to Japan by this time and there's not much you really need to know besides Zenigata continually and futilely trying to arrest Lupin.
I look forward to seeing what the Miyazaki/Takahata directed episodes have in store.
Mirai Nikki 15
I support all episodes that wallow in exposing the ineptitude of Yukkii. Content-wise the set up for this episode was far fetched, even for this show. The things that transpired as a result of the set up were interesting though, and pushed things further along than the last few episodes have. Ultimately, things still can't happen fast enough though for this show, so I'm glad they're willing to ditch the Murmur stuff and I kind of never want to see it again, although I'm sure it'll be back. With the pace of the series up until now, I am finding it difficult to imagine there will be a satisfying resolution to the loose ends of the narrative in eleven more episodes.
Not that it really matters, but the new OP is really disappointing. Nothing really evocative on a visual level, and the song is just boring compared to the rather frenetic and memorable OP the first half had.
It's nice to see an anime with a non-typical protagonist, in this case a young office lady(voiced by Mamiko Noto for those who care). I enjoyed this, even though it was a rather light piece of entertainment. The characters were all likable and efficiently characterized given the time restraints of the piece. The animation was not flashy, but the way it was used to establish the main character and her relationships was very well done in its own subtle way. I did like the style used for the backgrounds, but something in the digital composition seemed off in how the cels and backgrounds connected. I would like to see more works in this vein in the future.
Now THAT'S how you do a finale. Was close to tearing up when the music started during the INFINITE GATTAI PUNCH and then again when the constellations were being shown. So beautiful. And was that an English version of the main theme I heard?
Anyway, this was a very good show with a few flaws ranging from minor to significant depending on who you ask. But first, the good stuff.
The mech battles were quite visually appealing and well choreographed for the most part. I know there's a big hatred of CG around these parts, but I honestly couldn't care less with how smooth some of the mech's movements were. There were some issues here and there, but not enough to really mention. This is exactly what I want out of the Super Robot genre even if it isn't half as epic as TTGL (though it got close 1 or 2 times).
I also really liked Apollo and his interaction with the other characters. The way he grew and was integrated into DEAVA was really nice to watch. I made this comparison before and some might find it odd, but I think it's similar to early Naruto and his challenge of trying to fit in. Quite heartwarming when you really think about it.
And of course the music. Some might be annoyed that the main theme would play in nearly every episode when shit went down, but I honestly love when it's used that way. The very first episode had all the intensity of an endgame thanks to that and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Now for the complaints. Silvia and Sirius; they are assholes for 90% of the show. The former not shutting up about the latter was just ugh. Yes we get it, you want to have sex with your brother. WE KNOW! Of course Sirius is just an all around prick. I was hopeful that his behavior might be justified (at least from a story perspective) when he
betrayed DEAVA
but that really didn't do much. And let's not forget that both treated Apollo like shit even after he saved them
at the cost of his best friend.
Not the time to be tsundere, you incestuous whore and douche of a brother.
And this is just a minor complaint, but the episodes in the late teens and early 20s were REALLY unnecessary. Had this been some long running show, then yeah, you could call it amusing filler, but not for 26 episodes.
Anyway yeah, great show and I'm glad I didn't have to wait 7 years for the sequel.
Thumbs up! Welcome to the world of being able to enjoy fun mecha shows without taking them too seriously. I liked the ending too, though I felt it was a little rushed at the very end.
The best part of the OVA's is that it has all the magic of the TV series and fixes the biggest issues, not to mention, it somehow tops the really awesome ending the TV has in the coolest possible way.

Yeah, it definitely felt rushed. I think the climax was satisfactory, but there could have been more closure. 2-3 minutes of aftermath isn't really enough.

This isn't a bad short, but unfortunately it cannot measure up to the other pieces in the Young Animators Training Project. There's a number of issues here; for one thing, it just feels much more conservative and typical in its art and subject matter. The execution is also not at the level established by the other shorts. The result is an anime that's just a bit uninspired. The humor is rather forced, and because of this several of the characters end up being a bit annoying. The plot also feels off, like two stories awkwardly merged into one. It results in the climax seeming odd and unnatural, and due to this the Aesop doesn't really work as well as it should. But like I said, I don't think it's bad per se, just not terribly interesting or original.
Trying to show that the characters are struggling while keeping it lighthearted doesn't work. Absolutely no tension or sense of danger during the battle. Really in danger of losing interest. probably would have dropped it if not for the final scene with the Vox legend revealed.
