Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Halo Reach sucks, low jumping height and load outs are stupid.

COD 4 was and still is the best COD game, not saying much there.

Halo Wars is a fun RTS.

GTA 4 is balls.

MGS series is overrated.

PlayStation controllers suck.

N64 games have not aged very well.

What's your opinion on the Bond games, Quantum of Solace in particular?

Probably! I don't recall the first three MMs being that way, but then I was eight when I played them and didn't know games could be difficult without platforms disappearing without any cue or enemies obnoxiously popping out of nowhere dropping you into a pit.

Nah, Mega Man 1-3's difficulty were much more forgivable than 9. (Although 1 is kind of unfair sometimes due to the stupid difficulty spikes). I'd even say 4 was forgivable most of the times (or rather, too forgivable), but it did started the whole ENEMY POPPING OUT OF PIT bullshit despite it being an easy game overall.

9 isn't that bad outside of a few levels. But I have to agree that the game was a bit too unforgivable sometimes. (Concrete Man, Plug Man and half of the Wily Stages come to mind).

I think the word you're looking for is "unforgiving".

Speaking of which (and this is not particularly directed to anyone): Megaman (except MM1) games aren't hard. Main reason? You don't have to start them from the beginning everytime you boot them up. :)

Scripted events are an infinitely negative plague on the FPS genre and a good single-player FPS has not been developed in about a decade.

Ah, right. Thanks.

I would still say they're hard, but they're normally reasonably hard. But it is true the fact you don't have to start over makes everything so much easier to manage. (Sadly, there's games I own and like that doesn't have neither save or password.. which discouraged me from playing them :( like Rocket Knight and Plok))

Mega Man is such a damn fun series for many reasons including this.

Shadow of the Colossus was boring and repetitive. Someone had a great idea for a boss battle and nothing else so they made variations of that idea the ENTIRE game.

GTA series is garbage. If it wasnt M Rated for the teenz no one would care.

Rockstar has only made 1 good HD game yet.

GTIV was boring, too much emphasis on a terrible story not enough about fun. awful shooting mechanics. Good graphics at the time though.

Midnight Club LA is the same as the PS2 games except in HD, they changed the scenery and pretty much called it a day.

Red Dead Redemption features auto-aim crap, dry dialogue, by the book shooting mechanics, graphics are ugly with pop-in everywhere, and game regularly has slowdown. also no fun.

LA Noire.................LOL

Their best game? Table Tennis. Simple, Good graphics and good controls, but most of all FUN.

You want a open world game that is actually fun? Get Just Cause 2
You want a arcadey racer that is fun? Get Blur
You want a detective story that is entertaining? Watch Chinatown or any other number of classics.
You want a generic attempt at the western genre? Go play RDR and realize you wasted your money.

I agree with everything stated here.

I like repetitive games.

Far Cry 2
Assassin's Creed
PoP '08
LA Noire

All over my body.

People who say CoD games have no pacing are either ignorant or lying to themselves.

I bought Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 when it came out because for a year people told me that it was the greatest game evar. It was one of the worst games I played last year.

-Terrible characters, except for Thane.
-Terrible writing.
-It was not only a bad RPG, but a bad TPS aswell.
-It was ugly.
-Not challenging at all.
-The ending was one of the worst things about it. Completely lolz worthy.
-The story itself sucked, and it feels like a filler quest. First one was about saving the world from a mega threat, while the second was about fighting the main bad guy's goons that abducted some humans.

Will never trust a postitive opinion of Bioware again. :(

Everyone should stop pretending they didn't like GTAIV.

The game makes it pretty easy to hate. Awful characters, boring story and writing, boring missions with no variety or fun factor, less features.

It has nice graphics and physics and I respect the technology but I do not appreciate how bare bones the game was. GTA 3 was able to get away with it because it was the first of its kind and we didn't already have a San Andreas, but we do now and regression is not acceptable to me.

I'll give them one more chance with 5 though.

It makes 'em look hip and cool.

Some people (like me ) just hate worlds that doesn't have a once of seriousness ..
For me the semi realistic GTA4 approch is much better than the crazy unrealistic approch .. ( just cause - st row )

For some people those world are fun ..and for many those world are impossible to get into and to have fun because nothing is fixed ( defined )...
You want a arcadey racer that is fun? Get Blur
Euh no. Blur was too complex and didn't have an identity except let's try to copy mario kart with a realistic aproach... Not having the balance expertise necessary ( or just the raw talent ) it was a mess ... with cars that seems to be slow not matter the speed ...

Not to mention the weird physics ..Blur had some nice ideas but messed up with everything else and tanked rightfully.

Split/second - NFS : Hp - burnout ( 3,4 , paradise ) or just mario kart are just more polished ..

I'm a huge fan of Mass Effect 1 but I hated 2. Agree with everything you said.

I have no idea how it got the acclaim it did. It single handedly destroyed the amazing story and buildup the first game masterfully created. If anything, the gaming community should be treating it like an abomination, not a messiah. And for some reason I felt the actual gameplay was much less fun than the first one. Was a gears of war clone with tediously long copy and pasted corridor gameplay segments, small ass cities with no exploration, 3 enemy designs in total and a terminator for a final boss, Hooray!

I know you said you'd never trust a positive opinion of Bioware, and don't for that matter, but still play Mass Effect 1 if you want your moneys worth

Mass Effect 1 is actually a lame and boring game, not even close to 2 which is amazing.

GTA isn't fun(don't like open world stuff to be fair to it.)

Silent Hill Shattered Memories is not only the best Silent Hill game but the best game this gen.

FF IX and VI are the two worst FF's since FF III.

GoW Is boring.

DMC 2 isn't terrible.

Kingdom Hearts II is better then KH 1.

Scripted events are an infinitely negative plague on the FPS genre and a good single-player FPS has not been developed in about a decade.

You haven't played Serious Sam 3. And I don't mean this in that "dude Bulletstorm is totally a throwback to old FPSes" bullshit way. I mean it in a "this game is the future of great first person shooters" way.

RE4 controls are amazing, move and shoot is unnecessary.
DOOM 3 flashlight mechanic greatly added to the experience
GTA4 is not only the best Rockstar game, but the most fun as well
Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are better than Super Metroid
Metroid Prime 3 is a colossal disappointment
Call of Duty games get way too much undeserved hate
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is the best TH game

I'm torn.

Granted, SM isn't my favorite this gen or the series, but anyone preaching the good news of SM is okay in my book. I don't know if I can forgive you on ME, though...

-Super Mario Sunshine is by far the best thing to come out of Nintendo. I loved Galaxy 2 when I got it, but I've been playing Sunshine recently and I see the light once again. Nothing will ever touch Sunshine.
-StarFox Assault is the best game in the series. I want Namco to do another.
-Adventure 2 Battle is the best Sonic game (yes, over the 2D games). The Sonic/Shadow gameplay will probably never be surpassed.
-Sega was the best hardware manufacturer. I wish they were still at it today.
-Wii is the best Nintendo console so far. The rest of them all suck ass.
-I hated the PS2 and did most of my gaming on the Gamecube and Dreamcast last gen.
-All Mario Kart games suck. Diddy Kong Racing, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and Crash Team Racing are far superior.
-Nintendo failing to put out a F-Zero game recently made me try WipEout HD. I loved it and played older WipEouts as a result. WipEout is the superior series.
-Other M is the best Metroid.
-Yoshi Story is better than Yoshi Island SNES.
-Super Mario 64 DS is better than Super Mario 64. People who say otherwise makes my brain hurt. I never finished Mario 64 in full because it bored the crap out of me halfway through, but the extra stars and different characters in the DS version were awesome. It also looked better which is always a plus. The minigames were cool as well. Wanted and Bounce & Trounce were like crack to me.

I'm tired, so if more things come to mind I'll post tomorrow.

Yeah...don't.

Need for Speed The Run is the most enjoyable racing game out now.

Playing online and I have never had so much fun racing cars against other players in closely fought fun races.

PDZ was the best launch title ever. 32 player multiplayer with zero lag. Full weapon load out customization. Weapons with dual functionalities that complement or invalidate each other. Awesome reload animation. SWORDS!

FFXIII was total crap

The Mass Effect individual tittles have gone to other platforms, but as a franchise it's still an X360 exclusive. (In the PS3 it's missing the first instalment, and on PC it's 3rd instalment is origin exclusive.

Star Wars: The old republick is a WoW with slightly worse gameplay, and tons of single player content slaped over it!

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow kick ass!

Rayman Origins was much better than New Super Mario Bross and it's wii counterpart.

Lords of Shadow is the best Castlevania game since SOTN.

Lords of Shadow is only a Castlevania game in name, take away the main guy stealing the name of Belmont and it's a generic dark fantasy game with ideas from other game made into one.

It's the best God of War clone since Dante's Inferno. (Too bad that was crap too)

Final Fantasy XII is the best of the series and has a really interesting and well written story.

Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap is the best of the 2D.

Nintendo 64's library is vastly overrated.

I didn't like Resident Evil 4. Sure the game was beautiful, and it was good to see Leon back, but I think the mini-cult with this game was because firstly it was the first "true" RE in a long time, secondly because it completely changed the game system and thirdly because it was released on a console that had not that much third-party exclusives.

I suffered through the game with a constant feeling of "meh, this isn't really fun".
I didn't like RE5 either. I enjoyed RE1, 2 and 3 though.

EDIT : While I'm on it, I think the Uncharted series is way overrated. Sure the games are really impressive on a technical viewpoint, but I don't think they are THAT good in the platforming or shooting department. Especially Uncharted 1, the platform phases were kind of awkward and the shooting felt "weak". Also, I hate, hate bullet-sponge enemies. For me if you have to empty a full magazine in order to kill an AI-controlled enemy there's something wrong.
Well, Uncharted2 and Uncharted 3 did get things better eventually.

Playing it again, I am coming to the realization that I really like Final Fantasy XIII and everyone else is wrong. I like the story and how it works in the themese of fighting fate and I like the characters and how there is drama between the party and that they are normal people. It's not my favorite FF, but it's up there.

I also don't think it's as terribly written as everyone claims it is. Some corny lines sure, but compared to a lot of the genre, it's pretty good.

FFXII also has a really good story and Ashe is such a great character.

Final Fantasy X is the best FF for me.

FF is my favorite franchisee as its the only one that has not let me down. Every main installment has some quailty to it, even VIII. It's one of the most consistently good franchises out there.

it was the first "true" RE in a long time

The hell it was. It's an abomination of a Resident Evil. Every time I see someone defending it as "the best", when it was either their only or first, I want to slaughter a sack of puppies.

And Leon sucks. His return for 6 is part of why I have zero interest in it. Let everyone get all hyped up. The series has been dead since Zero released. I'm going to continue to wait for a real Resident Evil 4. It'll probably never come.

Liking FFXIII isn't controversial on NeoGAF. Not liking Pulse is, at least among people who liked FFXIII. That's just straight up weird.

What is more controversial is thinking FFXIII is the best Final Fantasy, which I happen to. I also think the entire series isn't good (nice aesthetics though) and with XIII-2 it shows no signs of improvement. (A shame, because XIII made it seem the series was going into a positive direction.)

I don't know whether this is controversial or not, but the PC version of The Last Remnant is better any of the recent entries/remakes of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

EDIT: "The Mercenaries" is the best part of Resident Evil. It is why the series should be considered among the best TPS. And there is virtually no "horror" involved.

Elaborate please?

Yeah sure. Cinematography is about positioning the camera shot (and camera movement) in order to convey an intended message or feeling, without having to go into elaborate exposition. This demands a great deal of knowledge about the cognitive and affective responses of a player to a certain camera shot.

Streamlining isn't like in Prince of Persia games where the camera takes over control and shows you the path towards the exit. That's exposition. It's the camera panning ever so slightly in the direction you should be headed; not focusing on the item you should be using next, but the camera movement giving you a feeling of momentum towards the right direction.

It's knowing about the correct lighting in a shot, and that a person's gaze is directed towards areas of high contrast, and that they are therefore predetermined to go into the corridor with a bright light at the end; a technique heavily used in Half-Life 2, among others.

It's the coin block in Super Mario Galaxy that's positioned just at the edge of the screen, making you want to go there, and not to other places. And when you try to reach it with your cloud suit, the clouds get depleted, telling you that they can deplete and exactly how many clouds you have. etc. etc.

I like you ALOT.
