Why? The game is a mess. Horrible mission design, terrible plot structure, the on-foot controls are hideously unresponsive, there are loads of problems with it. If you enjoyed it fair play but I thought it was torture.
I think Giantbomb is going downhill compared to the beginning. The content isn't as compelling as it was bar a few gems.
Jeff sometimes has huge moods on camera whilst creating content. It's super visible on some videos.
Ryan, can be very unappreciative & downright rude when dealing with fan stuff such as mailbags etc, yet spews sycophantic appreciation when he's asking you to pony up another $50 at the end of the year.
I liked Portable OPS (much) better than Peace Walker. (better plot, better characters, less retcon shit)
Xenosaga III is the best RPG I played in the past 10 years, narrative apparels are smart, the mess of a plot Takahashi tried to expose in gears/sagaI/sagaII was explained in a comprehensive way, the game overall rhythm is simply amazing(like in FFVI and CT), overall atmosphere (sound, musique, color tones etc) serves the game very nicely.
still, worse sales in the whole series.
God of war and castlevania LoS both have shitty gameplay. (not the worst that's for sure but it's not like it can EVER compare with dmc or bayonetta)
I liked GTA IV, but I absolutely disliked Red Dead Redemption. I was a fan of Red Dead Revolver, too.
I hate Assassin's Creed (series) with a passion.
I liked Alone in the Dark 2008.
I didn't like Gears of War.
Skyrim is overrated (I liked it, though).
I hate God of War.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take cover from the imminent wave of insults.
I don't want to play PS3 online with like, any game ever.
I do want to play my Vita online with like, every game ever.
DLC is stupid.
I will not buy a game with on-disc content withheld as a pre-order or special edition bonus or any bullshit like that. Skipped Rage because of this. I'm fine.
Double Dash is the best Mario Kart.
The Unholy War and Future Cop: LAPD for PlayStation were great games that deserve sequels that feature online play...for Vita, of course.
Breath of Fire V was great.
I am perfectly OK waiting like 3 more years for PS4, if not a little more.
Obviously it can't compare, as DMC and Bayonetta are games built around their combat system, whereas in GoW the combat is just a means to an end to progress the game in order to tell a story and show off the spectacle. Even David Jaffe admitted in some interview a long time ago that the combat in GoW couldn't compare to Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden, but their intent with the series wasn't to compete with DMC combat anyway. GoW and DMC strive for different things, they just happen to be games in the same genre.

Noooo, don't tell me this! I'm stuck working 12 and a half hour shifts in a car all night long, and I've decided that it's high time I played Dragon Quest beyond the original NES game. I'm almost done with DW2, and I expect to be starting 4 sometime this week. If I don't have time consuming RPGs to play, I'll go insane(er).
I hate it when games try to convey foreign accents in text.
Mario Sunshine is one of, if not my favorite Mario game. I really enjoy the gloop cleaning mechanic (that one level with the gloopy manta rays everywhere was like heaven for me), and felt like the FLUDD backpack added a lot to the game's traversal elements. Plus being able to hover made it a lot less frustrating when you made a jump and the camera was in the wrong place.

Mario Sunshine might be my favourite Mario game as well, but the Scrubbing Sirena Beach shine later in that level was the bane of my bloody existence when I first played it
Okay I can understand someone saying that its the best in the series, but that story was absolutely awful. Vaan and Penelo deserve to die 1000's of deaths. The enjoyable part of the game was the gameplay and the bounty side missions(Which had more content than the actual main story).
No its not. Not at all if you build it yourself. Enthusiast PC hardware and accessories are ripoffs, but what do you expect from enthusiast gear? I mean the enthusiast anything is a ripoff. Sports gear, clothes etc. I mean if you want to spend 1000's you can b/c people will take your money.
not yet I haven't; gameplay-wise I would guess it's better, but I'm doubtful about the rest (I mentioned about XSIII) really, but I'll get to it ^^
(then again I cared much more about plot, narratives and the likes than pure gameplay (but loved SO3, ToV, ToDDC(hated ToD on psx) & ToG though)

I agree with you except for the Alone in the Dark 2008. I think it's the worst game I've ever played.
And I was about to add some other stuff about some other games ( Zelda, metal gear solid, etc.), but as a newcomer, will wait after I get the way this forum works, wouldn't like to be banned with my very first ( or so) message, XDXDXD.
Dice rolls - I love em. Can't have enough dice rolls. I imagine a game where every action is governed by dice rolls, which are in turn governed by other dice rolls. Every step your character takes a dice roll determines if you trip, then another dice roll determines whether you just stumble a bit or fall over, then another to determine if you get hurt and to what severity.
The hell it was. It's an abomination of a Resident Evil. Every time I see someone defending it as "the best", when it was either their only or first, I want to slaughter a sack of puppies.

eh, I enjoyed Sunshine a lot, too. I really liked the end Mario levels, where it was just pure platforming. I'm actually going through SMG1 right now, and I'd say it's a bit better. The game just feels more refined / evolved...like the next step in the 3D Mario line. I dunno, I guess I'm just easy to please when it comes to Mario games.
Sunshine is the only GCN game I kept. One day I'll go back through it.
There have only been two genuinely great JRPGs since the 3D era began - Final Fantasy IX and Lost Odyssey. I have just purchased Xenoblade Chronicles, so I can't comment on that one yet.
All twin stick shooters are essentially just Robotron reskinned, and not as good.
Portal was massively overpraised by both the games media and forum users. It's really, really good, but the industry is almost wishing it was better than it is in order to hold it up as some kind of beacon.
The Wii has the best exclusive games of this generation by some distance.
Well, I do the same with frame city killer, a game that isn't even a game, just a pair of videos with fine music before the x360 launch,so won't blame you at all.

I didn't like Resident Evil 4. Sure the game was beautiful, and it was good to see Leon back, but I think the mini-cult with this game was because firstly it was the first "true" RE in a long time, secondly because it completely changed the game system and thirdly because it was released on a console that had not that much third-party exclusives.
No, no, no. This is plain wrong. You don't like RE4, that is fine. Maybe it is a betrayal of the Resident Evil series (I don't care about that). But the reason it is well liked is not at all for these reasons. It is because it is a fabulously well-designed game. Again, you don't have to like it, but concocting bizarre reasons why people like it is wrong.
As for my unpopular opinions: Uncharted is the best of the series. While I can respect the level of quality in the sequels, they lacked the enticing central location of 1 and just bored me. Finishing 2 was a chore. Also, the constant drive to surpass the preceding set-piece is really disappointing to me. I suppose you could say that it changed from an action-adventure game into a blockbuster.

Can that distance be measured in negative numbers?
That being said, its far from flawless and has (typically for Capcom product) a bunch of rough spots and dubious design decisions.
I've played it to completion multiple-times on both GC and PS2, so I'm not saying I dislike it, just that if you take off the rose-tinted glasses its not the untouchable masterpiece a lot of people seem to maintain it is.

Assassin's Creed is fucking terrible, gave the second one a shot, because y'know it's so much better, and that shit sucks as well. Extremely boring.
Also, Dead Space is boring as shit and not very fun. Although, shooting off limbs provides some satisfaction, and the controls are nice. I still want to give Dead Space 2 a shot...
Lastly, cutscenes in video games need to be fucking abolished. I have no idea why video game developers are still using them, besides marketing their shitty games. I understand some need them, or at least their is a place for those types of games, but not every single fucking one. Ugh...
Rose tinted glasses aside, Metroid Prime is also better than Super Metroid
I couldn't care less about upscaling>720, fps>24, screentearing, tesselation, or extremely high textures etc.. After playing Skyward Sword the only thing that's marginally important to me is AA, and I'm absolutely fine with a cheap 2x.
Half-Life 2's story is pretty nonexistent and even then they had to resort to a Deus Ex Machina, which is bad really.
Dragon Age Origins has no redeeming quality whatsoever.
Super Mario Galaxy 1 is the best game ever. It's also better than Super Mario Galaxy 2, which was hurt by the lack of an overworld, however tiny in 1.

- I prefer game controllers to KB/M for ALL NONE-ACTION-FPS PC games (I prefer Controllers for First person RPGS) --- growing up with NES --> Genesis / SNES --> PSX --> PS2....etc has made me used to just sitting back on the couch and controlling things with a single hand-held device.
- While I will not defend the writing itself, what Kojima and Co did with Raiden in MGS 2 remains the most incredible and clever peace of interactive "story-telling" I've seen in the medium. Stuff like Braid, Bioshock or anything else since just does not compare.
Fuck, I have to say this. Peoplr who hate Gears are bad at it. Period. They simply don't know how to play it. I can't blame them since its control scheme is kind of odd. Its not Halo, COD, Killzone or CS.
The controls are smooth and the visual and audio feedback is brilliant. Sure, the story is lame, but Gears isn't the kind of game you play for the plot to begin with.
I just really can't get into the 2D controls. 3D games should always have real 3D controls for me and the run button only really works with 2D Marios. IMO Super Mario 64 had the best control scheme, they should have kept them.
I was extremely excited about GTAIV. It took me literally YEARS to decide I didn't like it. And that was after being stuck on the same missions for a year.
I love the characters you meet right away: Niko and Roman and Brucie and Jacob, but the characters become bland and boring the further you go along. The city is beautiful and there's quite a bit to do, though it doesn't feel as fun or open or as much of a time waster as RDR.
The vehicle handling and the awkward character controls are what do it in. Seriously, they don't feel more realistic. At all. They feel like someone removed the cars' shocks and weakened the brakes. The character runs awkwardly which I blame on Euphoria and which was mostly fixed with RDR, though John still controls awkwardly at times.
I just don't like it because:
1) by the time I got to the second island, I didn't care enough about the story to proceed
2) getting into a car was a chore and I spent more time worrying about how fast I was going and whether I'd be able to break without spinning out or rolling instead of watching the road in front of me or looking for my target.
This is probably not the best place to post this, but I really, really, really wish they would make a Mario game with a similar level structure to Banjo Kazooie, as in huge overworld to explore, and open levels where you can get every star in a single sitting, rather than being kicked out after every star.
