Gay and Bisexual relationship thread |OT|

I love pop but I cannot fathom not growing past it, while still enjoying it for what it is. If the inevitable conversation is the phases of Lady Gaga's career so far, that's playing into a stereotype. And I say that while loving Gaga.
I like Gaga, too, she seems to do all of it a bit tongue-in-cheek (maybe not so much of late). But i was sitting there thinking "This group has the worst collective music taste on the entire planet." It also made me realise that any of the gigs I'd be going to see, would be me by myself.

Incredibly judgmental to say, of course. But it was pretty horrifying seeing a 35 year old guy talk about how the best gig he ever saw was Five.

the best shows i have ever seen were dj shadow and mustard pimp. i just thought i'd lighten up the thread with some non-mainstream.

wtf is five though? i just looked on wiki and i've never heard of them. are they really that well known?

I would have killed to see DJ Shadow. I might listen to Endtroducing right now! It's gloomy and rainy, good weather for it imo.

Five were some early 2000's terrible UK pop act. And no, i didn't think they were very big at all. Theyr'e probably all dead. I was like 'The best show I ever saw was nine inch nails at soundwave' *blank stares* And theyre not even an obscure band in the slightest!

Alcoori - I can appreciate that Pink can sing, just being lumped in with al those other artists in the conversation was just pop overload. They all got tarred with the same brush, unfortunately :P

What, is it Five like in the boyband that was big when I was in high school and that had this hot guy with a goatee and pierced eyebrow who was my favourite guy ever back in the day?

Yeah that one. I was about to type "everybodyyyy... yeahhhh!" then I realised that's the backstreet boys. I couldn't tell you one of their songs and I'm too lazy to Wiki it :P

Thank you for the welcomes!

In other news my former crush just gave me some gunpla for early Valentines. Sometime's I really don't think I can handle all these mixed signals haha.

Pop is nice and all, but it's definitely not my first choice when it comes to music. I have not fully listened to her latest album but needless to say I have limited patience for gaga unless i'm dancing (barring stuff like "Speechless" which I still <3<3<3).

edit- and I don't listen to Pink all too often, but recently the first thing I think of when I hear her music is drag shows. "Perfect" Seems to run in every show around ATL.

:lol fuckin Five. I remember them.
Five (also known as 5ive) were an English boyband put together in 1997 by the same team that managed the Spice Girls before they launched their career.

5ive - When The Lights Go Out:

I only liked the goateed guy too.

WOW 5ive is still even mentioned in the UK? Crazy. I admit I had their CD when I was very little. Ugh.

Also, some guy on Okcupid has a fetish for....diapers O_o

edit: I'm listening to 5ive/Five on Spotify right now and I want to kill myself for ever liking that crap...even if I was in like 5th grade. They can't even do one harmony. THEY CAN't SING!

Oh my god haha. That's so late 90's-early 2000's, I was in my Madonna phase back then I think. And I take it back, my favourite guy ever back in those days was Gary Barlow from Take That.

...or maybe I'm getting the exact time I liked each of those mixed up. I think Take That came before Five.

My favourite Five song was Keep on Moving btw.

I was out to dinner with a heap of mates last night and they're all talking about these awful shows they want to go see (or have seen) - Aqua, Belinda Carlisle, Five, Pink, Cher, basically every 'gay stereotype or terrible pop' artist you could think of. I'm all for people liking what they like but I dunno what it is about certain gay guys who can't (or won't) expand their musical tastes beyond campy pop. I couldn't even join in the conversation :P

Haha, I'm more surprised that most of these people still do shows :)

"Get on up when you're down, baby take a good look around I know it's not much, but it's okay, keep on moving anyway" :P

I love/loved Five

Let's just all agree they're all terrible, but also that I'd fuck that guy.

Then throw one of his terrible cd's in his face and kick him out.

Haha, I'm more surprised that most of these people still do shows :)
Some were past shows. I think Cher's in her sarcophagus now.

My only exposure to Five (Keep On Moving) was via Singstar. Not a bad tune, but it didn't make me want to seek out any more of their stuff.

Last two concerts I went to were Erasure in October(?) and Duran Duran in August. I'll never tire of 80s music. But it seems club 80s nights are getting harder and harder to come by. =/

EDIT: Oh, I did stumble into a Westlife concert in London (at G.A.Y. I think) a long time ago. Had never heard of them before that.

Probably beacause '90's music is the "new" retro for the coming years.

I love 90's music.
Natalie Imbruglia's Torn is the best song in this world.
So many good memories!

That song is pretty interesting since it is covered many times, one of them being Natalie Imbruglia's, but the song is always good. So yeah, It's a good song indeed! And most of the times I don't even like popmusic hehe!

She has such good flow for the first verse of this song, but everything else about it is awful.

I think she looks great with her pink hair though. Awesome look.

I LOVE Torn.
I remember watching the video clip at MTV years ago and fell in love with this song.
Whenever I hear it I get a good feeling inside, although I don't have any paticular memory connected to it.

Music wise - I have only one gay friend, and he definitely fits the stereotype and loves pop music. I'm more into rock and metal (Opeth live in March!) so maybe that evens out the playing field :P

Listening to Bleak right now :) Don't really know a lot of their stuff though.

I get a major hard on for anything with guitar and/or synth in it (hence the NIN love).

I've actually been playing the hell out of Steel Panther lately. LOL. 80s hair metal with outrageously offensive lyrics ftw.

Bleak is great. Easily one of my favourits. BWB is an amazing album in it's whole IMO.
I know them quite well aside from the two newest albums.
It's a bit wierd actually. I'm quite ignorant when it comes to a vast musical knowledge. I just know a few bands that I really stick with them, and that's it. I think especialy in the last few years I didn't even try to dedicate myself to a another band... Quite a shame really.

Steel Panther? Wow, I always wondered if those guys are serious haha. Then again, even bands like Twisted Sister and Manowar are pretty serious about their image in a fun kind of way.

The whole thing is really tongue in cheek and definitely a parody of that 80s hair band stuff, but I actually really like their songs - pretty catchy and the lyrics are hilarious.

If you like the guitar\synth combo you should check out Dream Theater (earlier albums) and maybe Symphony X. I didn't really listen to the latter, but I traveled with some people who kept on raving about the band non stop.

Will do, thanks!

I'm actually yet to find a band that matches the ferocity of the synths in Trent Reznor's stuff, being heavy, with a wall of sound but also almost-dancy and catchy at the same time. The opening of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with that perfect editing almost made me pass out from awesomeness.

LOL, I had the biggest crush on her when I was 12-13. I even went out with a girl from school who looked like here.
"If" is one of the best R&B/pop songs of the 90's, imo.

Join the gif love-in! The first music video I ever saw was "Together Again," which remains one of my favorite songs to this day. Beautiful music video and message.

Holy shit, yes! Not enough of my friends know it because I was only 4 when it came out, but you are right on the money.

That whole album was amazing. Infact most music from the '90's was amazing. I was the biggest Smashing Pumpkins fankid. Even tracked down and bought a collections of Bsides tapes. OMG, do you guys remember cassettes? lol. And Sony Walkmans, with batteries?
