Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I observe the puzzle genre as more a "misc" category (before we break it down into more specific sub-genres), split between action (reflexive) and non-action. Portal 2 would be an action puzzle game. People like to say "Puzzle-Platformer", so Portal would be a "Puzzle-3D Platformer".

I got up to some giant boss on a ship in co-op and thought it was fantastic.
I played the rest of the game solo and wanted to curbstomp Sheeva.

I want the next Resident Evil to play more like RE5 with co-op than like RE4. As much as I enjoyed RE4, co-op with friends made RE5 a blast and will make RE6 a day one purchase if it's more like that.

MGS1 was the only MGS game worth playing through.

Pretty sure I only had a problem with her during that last section where she's meant to do something while you're PUNCHIN' ROCKS. Most of the time in games with an AI partner I treat them as dead weight from the start and just play the game like they aren't there.

Nintendo are a lazy company who more times than not do the bare minimum in terms of work to get a product shipped and are it in for the day by day return and not the long investment.

The games are weak and so are the consoles they run on. They mask this by saying " we arnt competing with the others" when in fact they are doing just that but trying to make themselves look like the bigger guys by saying their not.

The success of the Wii wasnt based on quality titles or even the quality of the system but rather the fact it was new and novel and it got into the publics interest because of these things. As with "fads" the effect then snowballed and everyone and their dogs got a wii.

Id be more than happy to see nintendo go third party and do something worthwhile with all the great franchises they sit on instead of churning the same crap they have been for the past few year(with some mild exceptions)

Huh? I understand the admiration but 3 clearly stands alone in the saga.
I definitely understand where he's coming from. I really enjoyed the core gameplay of MGS1 and MGS2. VR Missions distilled it to just that with escalating difficulty. The thing that annoyed me about the MGS3 is that they removed the soliton radar and it made the stealth gameplay really frustrating to me, especially since I played the original release that had the overhead camera.

I actually enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 2 a great deal more than part 3, even though 3 is the one that gets all the accolades.

This is exactly it. I don't care one iota about the story of Metal Gear Solid. Even though there was a time when I found it fascinating... I grew up. I don't give a shit about Snake.

But the gameplay was always fun for me, and, in fact, even when I did care about the story, I still loved the VR extras in Substance - or whatever the EXTRA version of MGS2 was called - more than the rest of the game. Just boiling it down to stages of increasing difficulty, focusing entirely on the mechanics of the game...

I want more like that.

-Uncharted saga is one of the most overrated series ever.

-ICO and SOTC are boring as fuck.

-FFVII is the best Final Fantasy. No. Fucking. Contest.

-Kingdom Hearts Saga plot is awesome.

-FIFA rules over PES

-Megadrive >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SNES

RE5 feels really bolted together, and stuff like lack of care surrounding bosses, level design, and atmosphere all work together to bring the entire experience down because it doesn't feel like the same level of craftsmanship was involved (probably due to Mikami's departure).

RE4 feels perfectly balanced, cohesive, filled with imagination and detail, balances tense atmosphere, silly action, and hilarious goofiness with ease, and it feels like that team considered every aspect both individually and as a whole.

No one's "pretending" anything.

tbh I found the island in RE4 to feel bolted on, whereas the overall structure of the RE5 narrative was a bit more cohesive. The main problem I had with RE5 though was that there were lots of locations that were artificially fenced off and felt pretty small, where you were running around trying to find the trigger that started the next cutscene. RE4 had this too of course, but now it felt all the more artificial because there were two of you running around bumping into walls trying to find the trigger. Maybe the fact that RE4 was singleplayer, allowed for it to have more cinematic contextual interaction with the environment, making it feel less gamey. Or the environments were simply nicer.

I forgot to say this:

RE0 > REMake

I must be the only one who had fun with RE0. :P

And when you place Portal 1 and 2 side by side, having played neither, Portal 2 is probably the better game. However, Portal 1 spoiled its main mechanic, rendering Portal 2 one of the best made games this year from a technical standpoint, as well as one of the most irrelevant.

I completely dislike deus ex: human revolution

- the game world feels unbelieveable
- the gunplay feels like it shouldn't even be in the game
- stealth is executed bad for a game that is basically focused on stealth
- i think the story is boring

I regret every cent i spent on this game and i really cannot fathom the praise it gets in here (and elsewhere).

remember: just my uneducated opinion.

It's a fun game. It has the same mechanics that made RE4 fun, just everything surrounding it is worse.

And I hate co-op and never played the main game with anyone. The AI was fine.

It was fine until I tried....professional. Unfortunately, to beat RE5 on the hardest level, a human player is a necessity.

I am still pretty upset there was never VR missions for MGS4. The Scenario is crap, but the gameplay is pretty good.

This man speaks the truth!

I did it with the AI on professional. It was fucking awful though. The AI is absolutely fine on the other difficulties.

I like RE5 but think the pacing is pretty bad overall, especially for repeat co-op playthroughs. The swamp/boat section and the turret section/boss in particular are a huge drag.

Oh, my "controversial" opinion is that Dark Sector is more fun to play through than Gears 1 or 2 (haven't played the third).

WHAT??? Nintendo games are gud. NSMB Wii just recently has proven they have not forgotten how to make an excellent 2D Mario after the lacklister NSMB DS.

Also, the Wii was the FIRST fuckin "not as powerful" console from them, the GC destroyed the PS2 in every way. The N64 in theory was much stronger than the PS1, too bad catridge limited it badly. The 3DS is actually pretty strong, it simply has to extend a lot of it's power for the two screens and 3D effect.

The NES was also weaker than the Master System, but other than that Nintendo have always been on par with, or better than, their competitor's consoles.

wrong thread, this one is where you say something controversial not something everyone knows

portal 1 is great, but valve have admitted the only reason it's so short and moves you along so fast and barely explores its gameplay ideas is because they had no idea how people would react to the concept, with is also why they packed it in with TF2 and Episode 2. the implication being if they knew it would be a super popular game they would have made it longer and given the player a lot more concepts and maybe a more involved story (like portal 2)
It's a good thing these unique circumstances lead to them releasing Portal 1 as it is.

As far as actual new gameplay concepts go - The light bridges were great, the moving particle beams were... ok, but I really didn't care for the gels. I don't think they fit (except how they integrated the white one into the story, that was great), I don't think the fluid simulation looked particularly good - I don't think they made the game better, just longer.

Portal 1 being stripped and purely about thinking with Portals without a lot of other mechanics to bog the experience down is an essential part of what makes it work so well - because it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's still the best mechanic of the various they've introduced since then and it's a game just about utilizing that best mechanic.

Retro Studios output gets worse with each new game.

Not really surprising though, since most of the people who made the phenomenal Metroid Prime 1 have left.

Calling the games themselves weak is a joke. Nintendo makes great games, with the Galaxies, Zeldas, and such being some of the best reviewed games of the gen.

Sure, the Wii was underpowered this gen but like others have said it's really their only home console that followed the less is more philosophy. As for being lazy, I don't even know what the fuck that means. Fiscally conservative is how I would put it. It's often frustrating that they are that conservative as a fan because it leads to what seems like boneheaded decisions, but they are the ones sitting on a gazillion dollars, not me.

What color is the sky in this weird planet where Leon is a better character than Wesker? Who's president in this strange universe? Do people use utensils in this bizarro world?

The customer is always right.

Definitely controversial. Only because I know it's complete bull.

People actually liked Resident Evil 5?

I liked it more than 4.

Another one:

-Gamecube is the best console of the last gen.

I thought this was an undisputed fact.
