Dan. shi. Kou. kou. sei, nooo nichiiiiijooooOOOOOOOOUUUU! ep 3
This is getting better and better!
They need to to the alternate reality version at the end of every ep now
".........Obama"

Listen to me Girls, I am not Creepy at all! 03: This was pretty harmless and even Usagi Drop-esque until the fifteenth-minute mark. This could actually be pretty alright and even touching if they kept the fanservice at bay.

The ED is surprisingly good.

A recap. Tuesday ruined. :(
Oh ffs I thought the anime industry had already got over recaps.

I've been expecting a lot of touching from the get go.

Daily Lives of Highschool Peoples 3

Underwhelming episode outside the PV ones, but funny pre and post-credits segments.

I was actually okay with it, they tried to mask it with extreme fluidity at least. I've seen just as bad without any attempt to hide the QUALITY.

I didn't watch Birdy S2 - who's the animator on this? If the animation itself was brilliant I'm not sure why they corrected it. The whole point of employing Ryochimo as your animation director should be that you're going to get crazy GIF-esque animation at some point, and it's not as if Kazuki Akane hasn't let sakuga go before - witness Ryochimo's awesome fight scenes in Noein, or Satoru Utsunomiya's episode late in the same series.

Recaps suck if you are marathoning something, but week to week a lot of people most likely would appreciate an episode that catches them up on things.
I prefer the before next episode sort of recap though.

Recaps when marathoning no problem you just skip but when it's week to week you take the time out to sit down to watch a 30mins show only to find it out it's recap this week so going to have find something else to do with your time.

it's even worse the shorter the anime is, no excuses for having recap when it's only been 10,20 or 30eps.

B Gata H Kei 8 - END

Well well well, the point where I dropped the show was the point where it turned into a full on romance, turning Yamada's one track mind into something amusing.

Cardcaptor Sakura - 34

Awe isn't that sweet Sakura gained some relationship points with Yukito.... CLAAAAAAAAMMMMMMPPPPPPP!!

And now to watch some Chihayafu--

Grabbed my DVD and went to the credits for that episode -- Ryochimo, Niho Tomoyuki, and Nakaya Satoru are credited as the animation directors. I'm not terribly up on my animator knowledge, so I'll see if there are any compilations of his work on youtube and see how well it matches up to those particular scenes in this episode of Birdy. I'm willing to reevaluate my perspective on those scenes, though they still look very budget-constrained to me.

It's Niho's style

Rose of Versailles 5

mL9a3.gif

So, after Antoinette finally adresses du Barry with the words "A Happy New Year. There are a great many people at Versailles today", du Barry starts laughing maniacally, the world gets painted in dramatic tones, a black rose comes out of nowhere, then the black petals start blowing at Antoinette's direction. She then promptly proceeds to run away in tears and starts going down on a neverending flight of stairs (utena reference!) all the while a gigantic red rose keeps dropping its petals in the corner of the shot. "THE FRENCH COURT HAS BEEN CORRUPTED."

DAT DRAMA.

Gotcha. Time to spend a few days on youtube leveling up my ability to recognize animators' styles.

Also watched the video you posted. I don't watch Naruto, but I remember everyone on the internet making fun of those Pain scenes when they first aired with some gifs being posted constantly. I always thought they looked great and didn't see what the problem was. Now I'm really starting to doubt my own memory on those Birdy scenes. Time to watch the series again, it looks like.

Recaps too early are terrible too, ie Hunter x Hunter 2011 recap episodes before even we were at 15...

The proper way to recap is like Guilty Crown, an hour long special not aired normally. Unintrusive and optional.

Chihayafuru 16:
The gag scenes were pretty hilarious. They made sitting through a recap episode more bearable. Disappointing to have a recap episode in a short series, but oh well.

I picked up birdy under the impression it was about a female alien bounty hunter hunting wanted criminals across space sadly it was all a lie after the first 2mins it’s was just another boring anime set in modern Japanese highschool starring that highschool guy who’s in every anime ever.

ep1 looked good but droped it at ep2 after the ugly first person cg running stuff..

Another 3:

Lesson learned.
Don't run with umbrellas. Fucking OUCH! >_<
What frustrates me about a show like this is that if they'd just, I dunno, tell the MC what he wants to know, he'll shut up about it and stop asking. Wouldn't that make you all, I dunno, feel better about the whole situation? >_<

Well, the MC was a little slow on the update, but he finally knows about the girl. Sort of.
Actually, I knew that scene was coming, and I'm glad I did. I don't think I could have watched that scene without knowing. I'm bad with stuff like that. >_<

Due to the results of the 2011 anime of the year thread, I'm giving Fate Zero another shot and went through ep2 and ep3. New, well I guess chronologically old, Rider is truly a manly man.
Yesssssssss. Another conversion
You guys are hating on recaps now? when will the madness stop?

Lazy recaps aka episodes without any additional content are just indicators of low budgets or laziness. And madness? We've only just begun.

Gurren Lagann - 24

I need a shit got real o' meter because simply saying shit just got real doesn't accurately convey the level of how shit got real in this episode, and even if I were to get my hands on a shit got real barometer the damn thing would break because shit got so epically real it'd explode.

If someone still passes on Gurren Lagann after reading that post I suppose there is nothing more we can do to help them.

Chihayafuru ended up being a series of omake episodes spliced together with recap footage... this feels like a DVD extra being rejiggered to make an episode.

S1 is a good deal weaker than S2. Like you said, too much high school stuff, not as much action as I was expecting, and they didn't really capitalize on the concept of
two people being trapped in the same body
. S2 is way more Birdy-centric, tons of aliens (though they're more like giant talking animals in design), more action, vastly better plot. You could probably read a summary of S1 and do just fine starting with S2.

Papa no Ikuoto 3

Waiting for big tits to make a reappearance.

Highschool Boys 3

Not as funny as the last two. The mole bit was pretty great though, as well as the highschool girls segment.

So because I was playing SRWZ (still) I decided to watch an episode of Macross Frontier.

Oh my god, my eyes. The CG the CG oh my gooooood!!

I hate you AnimeGaf -_- I used to not notice this shit. I remember thinking the dogfights in Macross Froniter were cool.

VIVA MONSTER UNION!

Lets just say %100 of recaps suck and not count those two Utena recaps.

Gurren Lagann wasn't too bad, but that mostly stems from the scenes being as awesome on the rewatch as they were the first time. Although it did ultimately halt progression of the story unlike Utena.

I actually forgot anime can have recap episodes. I guess I was lucky all the (few) shows I watched did't actually have any recap episodes that I can remember.

Chihayafuru 1-15:

Caught up on the series over the past couple of days. It's astoundingly good. It could have ended with
Chihaya's defeat at Omi Jingu
and it still would have been in my top three of last year. I.........I'm kind of at a loss for words. Time to take in the recap episode and formulate some better thoughts.
