I'm practicing colossal self-restraint. My wife would kill me if I blew $700 on Vita stuff, which I could easily do, since I'm not getting every game I'd like.

I can get UMvC3 from work for $30, so I'll eventually order it from the company store.

I'd also like to get Blaz Blue and Escape Plan (still may get Escape Plan if it's as cheap as Super Stardust Delta), and Wipeout 2048, but I'm being reasonable, in that I won't have the time to play the 5 games I'm getting launch day thoroughly, so I can hold off on the others.

I can probably get away with bumping up my purchases to $500, but I'm really trying to avoid going over that. A happy wife, is a happy me, really.

i'm sitting at 440. may end up getting hot shots golf also. that would take me to 470.

by the way, there is a new wipeout 2048 (new to psn anyway) video on psn. looks great.

Eh, my wife doesn't care. I've been chipping away at it for a bit, and we make a good living. So it's cool

Dam, the official price for Vita South of the border is terrible. We can only pre-order the Starter pack (not 3G) for $460 USD. Would be easier to swallow if it had another game beside Mod Racers.

The worst-case scenario test gives us a total of three hours and 40 minutes of play before the Vita conks out, with test conditions in this case involving a non-stop playthrough of Uncharted's earlier levels with all wireless connections enabled, and with maximum brightness and sound set. We thought this was still impressive given the graphical output of the machine, and fits well within Sony's predictions.

Between 3.5 and 4 hours of "everything on" playtime seems good to me! I was expecting much much less. (Although my GBA SP is spoiling me right now with its crazy long life)

Unit 13 is a retail game now? This is supposed to be a bite sized shooter. I expected a 15 dollar price point max.
I'm not sure where this comes from. It's been positioned as a game that can be played in bitesized chunks (which is ideal for a portable game), that doesn't automatically make it light on content.

I think at the moment I'm looking at:

Vita 3G - £280
16GB memory card - £40
Hori Screen Protector - £7
Wipeout 2048 - £30
Everybody's Golf - £30
Dungeon Hunter Alliance - £6
Lumines - £6
Rayman Origins - £6

£405. I bet you US folks get a lot more for your $631! :(

This is making the assumption that Amazon honour those last three. There's also an outside chance that I can get an incredible deal on the Vita itself via someone I know that works for Sony, but I won't hold my breath on that.

Well, at least you might get Lumines for $9.37. :(

I think right now I'm just going to get the wifi Vita, 16gb mem card, and Lumines. Every other game I'd want at launch is either one I already own in some capacity (yikes!) or won't be available until later. We'll see. Mayyybe Uncharted (since 3 let me down). Still undecided.

I think the pulsing, Rez-ish backgrounds and quasi-return to a Lumines 1-esque soundtrack have potential to make Electronic Symphony the best one yet. I seriously can't wait. Those games can legitimately put me in a trance for hours.

I just read a lot of stuff here:

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psvita/index.html

Good read, learned a couple of neat little details on Vita. Oh and I tripled my hype level.

thanks interesting ! just discovered that vita , as ps3, can be paired up to 7 BT devices at one time. I wonder if it could stream audio from games to a bt amplifier and at the same time use a headset for voice chat.
I wonder if BT comes enabled by default, as you can disable it from settings. it would mean a little extra battery life for those who won't use any BT device.

And I feel like $380 for a WiFi model, 32GB memory card, and Wipeout is a lot. Can't imagine spending $600+ for a new system launch.

All the tax could be another game if you have that option.

Uncharted was a no-brainer for me at first but after seeing how amazing WipeOut looks I think I'll wait on it and see what the supposed multiplayer looks like. Poor starving college student and all that. ;p

I'm going with just the first edition bundle and WipeOut until I get my paycheck later in the month.

I am around the US$ 500 mark, plus taxes.
- First Edition 3G Bundle
- Uncharted

Plus some games on PSN.

Everything is in place and now I sit and wait for release day.

Caved in ... and decided to wait until March :(
Got bills to pay. Rather have a roof and warm water, than a vita and living in a cardboard box.

Missing the Early Adopters bundle though, which I think is just a coupon for a PSN game + some blue ear phones.

Is anyone else pumped for Motorstorm RC? I read on this preview that it's set as a launch title.

I feel like a hypocrite when Modnation Racers doesn't ship with head-to-head multiplayer and I'm a little miffed (but not outraged like some folks around here), but am willing to give Motorstorm RC a pass because...well...because...I don't rightly know.

This gets me pumped, however:

Controlling your vehicle is also perfectly realistic, with the twin analogue sticks coming in for unusual use as stand-ins for an actual remote control unit. Which means the left one controls your direction and the right one your speed. We found this impossibly confusing and completely unplayable for the first five minutes, then dangerously addictive and perfectly intuitive thereafter.

There's a peculiar joy to top down racers that's considerably removed from both simulation and arcade racers, and it’s a real shame that games like Super Sprint, Micro Machines, and Super Cars have so few modern equivalents. With the best games the handling can be just as satisfying as in a 'real' driving game, as you feel your car dig into corners and weave past opponents.

Even from what little we've seen of MotorStorm RC it's obvious the game gets this exactly right. The turning circle for the remote control cars is extremely small and we found this made even time trials an obsessive pleasure. Although this will increase even further in the final game, which adds in your friend's ghost cars to chase, as well as posting lap times to Facebook and an online leaderboard.

Keen. So keen. This and WipEout...racing heaven.

I got a chance to play the Vita at the Toronto Eaton Centre when I was done with classes.

The actual device isn't as big as people made it out to be. I mean I thought it'd be something that was hard to carry around but it doesn't seem like it'll be a big deal. Yeah, you can't put it in your pocket, but if you have a nice carrying case for it you can pop it in your bag or what not.

The actual thing is pretty light too -- Similar to a 3DS in terms of weight (I haven't used the PSP Slim or whatever, PSP 3000?). The analog sticks felt like Mini analog nubs like the one the Wii has, they felt pretty good, they do stick out. The screen is gorgeous, it's nice and big and the touch works well, as does the back trackpad (though, I don't see any practical use of it in games yet, but it works).

In terms of software I've never been interested in the Vita's library, but I can see people who want those types of games on the go enjoying it. The device itself is really neat and if it had more games that fit my tastes, I'd be all over it -- it's a great piece of tech.

I guess that means you don't want my $26+tax Uncharted pre-order? I'll see if anyone else in Toronto wants it.

Dependant on if I get the first the first edition, my buys look to be...

Wifi Vita
32GB card
120-140 in PSN funds
Wipeout
Hot Shots

All hands-on I've read about MotorStorm RC (not the ones made by media outlets) are terribad. Just to let you know guys.

Got Vita Wifi and 16gb memcard on preorder. Haven't ordered any games yet but think I'll get the first Vita game from the PS Store. Really excited for Shinobido 2 so might get that game first.

I bet if you can hold off a few weeks Amazon will have a buy 2 get 1 on Vita software. They did for the 3DS.

It certainly isn't a guarantee, but if you're cool coming home with one or two pieces of software instead of three to five, then you may be able to save a bit just by being a little patient.

Launch Plans:

*WiFi Vita
*32GB memory stick
*Charge Cradle
*Case (only item yet to buy/pre-order -- budgeting $19.99 to this)
*Uncharted
*Wipeout 2048
*Lumines
Super Stardust (this is $9.99 IIRC -- already have PSN funds loaded into my account)

Total: $519.92 - 5% cashback on all starred(*) items purchased at Amazon = $494.42

I could pay for it all with Amazon credit, but I prefer not to since I will be saving about $35 by just paying with my Chase credit card.

That upcoming massive Final Fantasy sale on EU/AU PSN makes me glad I preordered the 32gb :D

Mixed feelings though, since I preordered at the only place that was willing to ship it to Australia without massive shipping fees, videogamesplus.ca D:

Really?! I'm genuinely curious, only because Evolution aren't exactly bottom rung when it comes to the racing genre. Why would there be a total disconnect between media outlets and anecdotal previews?

Launch Plans

Wifi Vita (Christmas Present from Wife)
Uncharted GA (Paid for with Amazon Gift Card)
Wipeout 2048 (Ditto)
Hot Shots Golf ($29.99)
Touch My Katamari ($29.96)
Cradle + Screen Protector + Travel Pouch ($49.97)
16 GB Card ($59.99)

Total Cash -- Approx. $165.

What did they say was bad about it?

It was mostly about the weird controls, and the game not being pretty. I also remember someone complaining about the camera being too far : so it's difficult to see what's happening and there's not a great sense of speed.

I hope there will be a demo.

My dent:

Wi-Fi $249.99
16GB Memory: $59.99
Uncharted: $49.99
Hori Screen Protector $6.99

Total: $366.96

Had $81 in credit, so it took my total to $285, and also am using my Chase Freedom, so I'll get $14.27 back in cashback as well.

I'm getting one of my bonuses from work, which is $250 after taxes, so it'll pay for most of it.

Still debating on ordering Uncharted, or waiting to see what sales are going to be that week.
