Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

Agreed with the above that I have never enjoyed a touch screen game.

I've also never finished one. Have had a DS since the second year and dozens of games, but never beat a single one of them.

Heres my controversial opinion after playing Silent Hill 3. Despite being annoyed with the games now I will still try to finish the second game sometime this year.

Silent Hill is an overrated series. However I will not deny that the style of the games have appeal and have some excellent design choices and style found no where else. However after playing 4 of the games I get tired of the terrible combat and the obvious all doors are locked in the corridor except 2 of them. Also the settings are overused such as hospitals and schools. Which are too dark most of the time for you to actually notice your "scary" surroundings.
The stories don't always make a slick sense or fleshed out well.

I would enjoy this series more if I just stopped at Silent Hill 1 and 2. Then much of the repetition wouldn't be experienced. I don't find the games that scary either because the type of psychological scare is repeated too much.

Legend of Dragoon wasn't totally bad.

Hunch your shoulders slightly: your slightly deviating gaming opinions

Does this one really need a flame shield? LoD has a pretty sizeable fanbase for what it was and when it came out.

I will add a few more just because.

Prime 3 is easily better then Prime 1/2.

Other M/Fusion are better then Super/Zero Mission.

I have not read all 56 pages, so I'm not sure if this has been stated. With that said, the Uncharted series is one of the most overrated gaming series ever. Those games consist of 50-60% shooting, and the shooting in the games flat out sucks. Weapons are boring and lack any punch, enemies are bullet sponges, and the hand to hand combat in the recent game was shit

This is the worst opinion I've ever seen

I'm with him/her.

The split design is amazing. Nothing has been more awesome this gen then allowing my hands to sit where they want and relax. I missed the extra stick and buttons so it could use a redesign, but the split controller concpet is fucking amazing.

I hate the Mass Effect games because they got marketed as RPG. Bought the first one expecting a RPG, got another dudebro shooter again. Maybe if I bought ME expecting a shooter I would have a different opinion but yeah.

The Elder Scrolls Series is a little to fantastical to me. I loved Skyrim, I disliked Dragon Age 2. That said, I prefer the Dragon Age series.

Online games are not for me, that said I did spend many hours of my life achieving the "Killing Machine" trophy on Resistance 2. Hypocritical, you might say. I'd be inclined to agree That said I'm a fan of the Resistance series.

With that said, I've never been a fan of online shooters or racing games. No need to explain my motives here. I think they're shit. I am not faulting the people who enjoy them.

Prince of Persia... Sands of Time was a fine game. Combat was horrific, but it was a good experience nonetheless. That said, the PoP 2008 was better for me just the characters alone. Eleka more so.

I lose interest in indie games quickly. Simple. Is it not?

I love the shit out of Uncharted. It's pulpy. Over the top. It's 80's Stallone in video games.

I am surprised you like pulpy, cinematographic stuff like Uncharted but not killzone. It's even more '80s stallone' in video games.

I expected much more involved RPG mechanics than we got. Instead we got a gimped RPG, and a sucky shooter until you'd put a lot of points into your weapon. It took me three months to even enjoy the game.

Now I've played it and it's sequel around 500 hours a piece. I've gamed more on my 360 because of those two games than I have my entire library of Wii games. I did the same thing last gen though. KotOR got a good thousand hours of play. I had eleven total Xbox games, and KotOR 1 & 2 took up almost all of the playtime on that system.

Yeah I fell into the Bioware hype train on ME1. I do really like the game but it fell so short compared to what they were hyping.

"explore 100 planets while traveling through the galaxy!" "60+ hour game!"

ehhhhhh not so much on either of those. You probably explore 100 planets if you count the 80 that you can't do anything with, and I was never able to pass the 40 hour mark on any playthrough.

PC gamers are just circle jerkers.
PC games are a joke.
Keyboard and mouse is terrible.
"Master Race"? What are you guys, 12?

Penny Arcade: "We're just nitpicking here (a distinction we rarely make with other games when we criticize them) but Mass Effect 1 is actually too deep! You can't keep up!"

I'm a PC gamer and I agree with the master race thing. I bet even Yahtzee is sick of hearing that shit at this point.

Mass Effect as a whole is an okay franchise. It's not good, but it ain't bad either
BioShock is very overrated
Golden Sun series is okayish
Star Fox is lame
Most shooters are boring
Metroid Other M is a good game
The Elder Scrolls series is a horrible, horrible franchise

I'd be interested to hear more about "art" as a bullshit concept.

I guess my controversial view is that games ARE art.

It's not controversial to say that games are art (because they are by the very definition of art), but it would be controversial to say that those who don't think games are art are stupid poopy heads with heads made of poop.

Most of the main definitions of art are bullshit is because everything IS art in those cases. "Bullshit" implies some sort of scamming going on, which is pretty apt when you consider what has happened to the word in the last century or so.

I gave up caring about what is or isn't art because you can take a giant wet dump on a white board and some nut job out there will try to call it art.

Who gives a shit really. What does it change for video games if they're suddenly considered art? Nothing.

The original Xbox controller was amazing. The four color buttons were perfectly spaced so that you didn't have to move your thumb away from any button to press another.

Phantom Hourglass is a worthy successor to handheld Zeldas and an amazing game. Spirit Tracks was a disappointment and a letdown compared to Phantom Hourglass. Stealth does not a bad game make. Learn to shortcuts.

Nintendo and Capcom (though they are slowly slipping) are the only Japanese companies anyone should care about. Every other company over there is either out of touch with what people want our cater to dedicated fans who like boring games with godawful mechanics.

Altus is alright. Its hit or miss with them. Platinum I guess is alright. Fuck NIS and everyone else.

Did they do anything to hurt PC Gaming other than to lower the amount of PC Games they published, and drastically improving the state of online gaming on consoles?

Games for Windows Live has actively made PC gaming worse.

- Soul Calibur IV was a disappointment when compared to the other games in the series. It felt like it lacked variety, stages, the adventure mode....

Here's some old ones:

- State of Emergency (PS2) was one of the worst pieces of garbage games I ever played. I recall people loving it and it was a complete mess. The hit detection was nothing less than horrendous and the gameplay utterly boring.

- Darkwatch was one of my favorite FPS games of the PS2/Xbox generation. It is sad to see this will never be a franchise, let alone even a sequel.

- I seemed to enjoy Castlevania: Curse of Darkness more than Castlevania: Lords of Shadow despite CoD's somewhat bland graphics.

- I liked MK Mythologies: Sub Zero.

- Pitfall II is better than the original Pitfall.

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days is a great game.
It has its flaws, is short, and has a terrible ending, but there is something between those characters that is interesting and keeps my attention. The gritty handy-cam style graphics were a great artistic choice and really complement all the terrible things that go down in that game. There aren't too many games that have gotten me to wince, but this game achieved that (
Damn those torture scenes
). I also enjoyed the original Kane & Lynch, but the flaws there are much more apparent. Definitely hope for a sequel that will improve upon Dog Days.

All of the best experiences I've had on PC since 2008 have been with GFWL-enabled games.

Been PC-only this entire gen and I agree with everything. I play a little SC2 on the side but can't stand point & click interfaces overall, and tend to see the people who love it so much as only playing a specific kind of RTS or FPS. I die a little on the inside when a game like Vanquish or Dark Souls doesn't get a PC version. Currently looking forward to... nothing for 2012, which is good for my productivity. Keeping an eye on Syndicate (while laughing at everyone who's upset because it's looking like a gamepad friendly adventure FPS instead of their isometric point & click marathon), Dragon's Dogma, and maybe Diablo 3 if Blizz ever does the right thing and patches in a good gamepad interface.

Is one of the greatest JRPGs of all time.

Every main Pokemon game after Red/Blue, Silver/ Gold is garbage

Agreed. For me, the fact that there are now 550-something Pokemon is a major turn off. The appeal to the original games was to "catch them all!" For me, that is no longer achievable.

I think that the term has been perverted, as Leo Tolstoy predicted it would be. Everything can be 'art' now, regardless of quality or intent.

The designs for the Pokemon have gotten progressively worse too. They were never particularly stellar RPGs though, even though I enjoyed the early ones as a kid.

Nintendo hasnt made a good console since the SNES - they need to stop making games for kids. If i have to waggle a stick, i dont want to play it.

Random battles in JRPGs suck BIGTIME and competely ruin a game for me.

I cant stand graphically advanced "AAA" games with all the effort placed on graphics rather than fun gameplay - come up with something new and fun to play rather than regurgitating the same old BS year after year with a new graphical sheen.

At the very least, the greatest RPG name of all time.
Official US Dreamcast Magazine is the best video game magazine. Evan Shamoon and Simon Cox did such awesome features, the art and way stuff was laid out looked beautiful, and the demos didn't hurt either.

One of the issues told you how to find Dead or Alive "fan-art" on your Dreamcast web browser. My 13 year old self was not ready.

Star Ocean 3 is the best game in a fantastic RPG series.
Star Ocean 3 is also the best game on the Playstation 2.
People who say Final Fantasy XII is the direction that future Final Fantasy games should strive for or say is the best in the series should be ignored
World of Warcraft is the best thing that has ever happened to Blizzard

Call of Duty Died after 4. Because they kept releasing DLC as full retail copies of the game.

(I do not include WAW and BOps in this opinion)

I want Nintendo to fail and go third-party like Sega. Their games are great, but their consoles are horrible. And I'm done buying Nintendo consoles just to play Nintendo games, so until they go third-party, I will likely never purchase another Nintendo system or game for myself.

Who knows if it will ever happen, but I see it as an inevitability. I'm just waiting at this point.

Metal gear solid 4 was the best game this gen. I can bet if we had a recount of 08 it would still win goy gaf. Actually, i don't think that's a controversial opinion. lol

I preferred Dreamcast over PS2. Hope I'm not the only one though. :P
