As I have surmised before, bg, is in fact Iwata and he is seriously fucking with us.

You know, with the controller being able to play games without a television, I wonder if we'll ever see people using Wii U as a semi portable console.

Going to the airport? why not stick the tiny console in your backpack, nab a spot next to a power outlet, and play next generation console games while waiting for your flight?

It doesn't work that way.

There is no conference tonight. Just the results, and not until around 3 AM EST. Conference is tomorrow night.

Okay, but the results of what, exactly? And when you say tomorrow, do you mean our tomorrow or Japan's tomorrow? Should I still be expecting something tomorrow morning MY TIME (EST) when I wake up or not? Not necessarily news, but confirmation that something took place?

It is a financial briefing for investors. So they would be sale results.

Yeah, the controller can't run anything without the console. It simply receives a signal that won't extend beyond the walls of your house.

I'm pretty sure it works exactly that way. At least according to Nintendo's PR video.

You mean the one where they show that Mario game go to the controller? Yeah, you can't play that at the airport.

There's nothing at all to say that WiiU is based on the RV770, only that earlier development kits used a RV770 based GPU.
It could be that the range of performance that the RV770 offers is what Nintendo has been aiming at for the Wii U. It doesn't necessarily means that it will be based on this exact design (and it won't since it will be custom-made).

Carrying a console with you that's as long as a giraffe's neck seems to be anything but portable.

Uhhh, it's a few inches longer than Wii? Try sticking your wii in a backpack right now.

I'm not saying this will be a popular option, I'm just speculating that it is more than possible. Is it not?

Without the need for a television, and a console that is only slightly larger than Wii, next gen console gaming can literally go anywhere you find a power outlet.

Read my post again.

Ah, I totally didn't get what you were saying. Sorry about that. In my head I was reading "console" as controller, simply because my brain can't compute bringing a console with me casually like that :p

So needless to say I wouldn't be one to do that ;)

I'd imagine it's possible as long as the Wii U doesn't mandate using a television PRIOR to switching to the controller.

I see what you mean - since you don't need necessarily a TV screen to output - but it doesn't seem to me like a very practical solution; as much as WiiU is tiny and light, it's not like a handheld or a Kindle.

But they didnt put a handle on it!

But dig this... What if Nintendo made deals with airports, and other public places to install a wiiu or two, and allow anyone carrying the controller to play games off them. Or surf the web, etc.

Remember, Nintendo came out with a Wii with a hard drive for hotel rooms.

Yeah, but only one or two people could use it at a time.

Old?

Nintendo have registered a new domain, Nintendonetwork.net, which redirects to their main website at Nintendo.com. One of the rumours surrounding the 3DS’s (and possibly Wii U’s) new online service is that a website will be available from which one will be able to manage their Nintendo Network account. Nintendo might be planning to use this domain for that purpose.

Yeah, this was pointed out (I posted the whois info myself) in the Japanese 3D photo competition thread ( http://3dphoto-contest.nintendonetwork.net/ )

I like to think that it is part of a broader service, but its better not to hold our breath... we'll be pleasantly surprised if its cool.

We're 50% sure it's the same thing.

Who's waiting for the business meeting thing? let's talk here lol
I think someone e-mailed Nintendo concerning NN and WFC, and a rep said they're the same thing. It's just customer service, so in the end we won't really know.

I think it would be a rebranded revolutionized online service that we all are waiting for.

Hence the 50%.

Regardless of what it means, Nintendo Network is not just NWC.
It's been far expanded in many ways on just the 3DS.

True true... it's already changing, has changed in many ways.

In what ways has it changed, if I may ask?

Unified Friends list.
Easier managed Friend's List.
Ability to tell what games people are playing at the moment and the ability to join them on the OS level.
Ability to pay with exact amounts for products on their online store.
Nintendo can now push software and updates seamlessly.

Only ones I knew about. Learn something new everyday.

Also,

Demos and DLC.

What time would news be coming out? If there is any.

weren't we supposed to hear back about the investor's meeting by tonight?

Checked the website, nothing has been updated (sales results, briefing notes, Q&A etc). Last thing put up was a notice of the Manager who died on the 22nd.
The schedule still says today, but maybe it's later/delayed?

So it sounds like November will most likely be the launching date:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460346

The question is, why?

Issues with games not being ready ala 3DS launch?

Modifications to hardware?

Problems with online?

Problems with the tablet controller?

Breathing room knowing Microsoft is not ready with a console this year?
I disagree that Novermber is the likely date.

All things point to Nintendo trying to roll out a network that actually competes and to do so and launch in four different territories all with in a month in a half is going to end badly for them.

I got to believe the will take steps to make sure this doesn't happen and spread the launch out, likely starting in Sept or even earlier so they can get the systems out quickly but with enough space so they don't crush themselves with rolling out the new platform and the new online network.

So assuming the devs got the final kits recently, they have at least 9-10 months to polish their games. It seems Nintendo wants devs to take more time. Or the final kit is a lot more powerful that the devs need more time to update their games.

Holiday season edit: sales

So they are anticipating such a bad reception that they would otherwise know a bad launch, and need the holidays to sell out of what is to be expected a limited first shipment? They should launch earlier, make sure all the moms understand the WiiU isn't an accessory for the Wii by Christmass. Their first shipments should have no trouble selling out if the price is right in any case. They can then again, use the holiday season to further expand a few months later. That's what i would do. (EDIT: ofcourse, only if hardware and software are ready).
