PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

One thing I did notice is the plugin looks identical to the PSP Go, are the connections the same or are they different? I haven't found any information saying either way.

I did some digging around the 'net on this and all I could find was one forum post somewhere (not GAF) where someone claimed the PSPgo adapter doesn't even fit in the Vita, but they gave the impression that they did not own the system, so I consider it unconfirmed... I'm hoping they work, because I bought a couple extra PSPgo cables for $5 when they were blowing them out at a local Rogers, so it'd be nice to be spared the need to buy a Vita cable for work.

Just bought a bunch of PSP games off of PSN for the Vita:

Trails in the Sky
Fate/Extra
Rachet & Clank Size Matters
Jak & Daxter Final Frontier
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

I've stocked up $100 worth of credit on my PSN account for the Vita launch, but I've already got 70+ PSP games on PSN (bought a PSPgo on day one), so I really needed to buy the 32GB memory card...

re: the PSP games on PSN... I'm really hoping I can use my downloaded copies stored in MediaGo on my PC on the Vita - I don't want to have to download everything again...

Eurogamer.net reviewed Wipeout. They gave it 7/10.

WipEout is several steps down from the series' best, but is still a robust and muscular racer, and one that with its solid online and dazzling visuals, does much to recommend its host hardware - doing enough to suggest that the Vita's own future is bright.

Now Amazon has the $39.99 price for Wipeout...but with 25% off it's still $29.99. I imagine the digital version will be $29.99.

For you guys buying 3G version of PS Vita.

What are the advantages choosing 3G?
Playing online with friends not at home? (*)
Downloading stuff not being under Wifi network?
What else?

(*) Do they confirmed that you'll be able to play with no lag?

Thanks.

No 3G continuous multiplayer (I.e. Call of Duty, Street Fighter)

However, 3G will support asynchronous multiplayer. (i.e. turn based games)

A 3gb data plan for $30 won't Give enough data to download many games on the go, but smaller games, Internet, etc should be ok.

I'm starting to second guess my 3G purchase, as I'll just tether from my phone if I need it.

You can't actually play online versus with 3G?

Nope. I was surprised too, but I guess this has always been the case.

Probably better than a bunch of shitty net code trying to run on shitty AT&T networks. Hopefully we see some clever turn based modes in upcoming Vita games.

Here's a question.
Say I want to upgrade my memory card later.

What's the procedure for getting everything off one card to the bigger card?

It makes a lot more sense now for me to just use my phone as a wifi hotspot.

I really want to know this as well.

What happens to your digital download games 5-10 years from now if Sony decides they don't want to support them anymore.

Are you unable to boot up because of some silly DRM?

Can you store backups of the games on your computer indefinitely?

I'm still wary of Sony. They don't have quite the same digital distribution reputation as Valve, but I'd like to feel good enough about it to convince myself to go all in on DD.

Valve allows third party additional DRM schemes for products sold on their store. You basically have no idea what games you'll be able to play from your Steam account ten years from now, for example if Ubisoft shuts down their servers you won't be able to play your Steam copy of Assassin's Creed.

Sony only allows two type of DRM schemes and both are tied to your PSN account and no third party service. One of them requires you to be logged in on PSN while the other one is used by the vast majority of the games they sell and does not. Going back to the example above, if you buy Assassin's Creed on PSN you're guaranteed to be able to play it for as long as your PS3 still works or Sony's PSN exists.

Yeah that would be ideal, the plug looks identical so I am really optimistic and I don't think you will have an issue using your MediaGo downloaded games on the Vita since it should just transfer over like the PSPGo would.

Thanks!

I've never purchased an UBI soft game on PC, and now most likely never will.

Still tempted to go all retail for Vita, but I guess I'll wait for the official PSN pricing structure to make a call.

launch window line up is looking super appealing to me right now, with Rayman, Ninja Gaiden and Mortal Kombat

may have to seriously consider a Vita!

Probably best to go mostly retail and just download ones you will play a lot. That's what i will probably do

This is probably just me, but I have completely scratched Uncharted off my list of games I wanna get for the Vita. I liked the series when it first started, really remember enjoying UC1. I remember liking UC2 less but I thought that was mainly cuz I didn't enjoy the story as much as the first. I just finished playing UC3 yesterday finally, and ugh...I am just done with that series.

I still didn't really have a huge attachment to the story as much, but my biggest problem was actually playing that game. The enemies were such bullet sponges, and I felt the linear nature of the platforming and set piece parts just were not fun or as impressive anymore. I think they hit a home run with UC1 because at the time it was really impressive, and then they tried to continue that with UC2 which is fine...but I felt it was just played out with UC3 and I didn't care anymore. Combat drove me nuts because I could shoot enemies so many times and they're still standing. They didn't refine the series to make the games actually play better, they just made more crazy set pieces.

Anyway, it just really helped me realize I have no urge or desire to play Uncharted Golden Abyss on my Vita. I'm done with that series so much, and once again wish that Gravity Rush was a day 1 release instead.

I won't be buying Uncharted at launch because i still have to finish U3, and have no time so when i may be able to play it hopefully will be cheaper. But i think Uncharted series gameplay need no change, it is ok as it is and what made the series great. Maybe too many games in a relatively short time is the problem. But hey, that happens with most franchises so i am ok, i skipped gears 3 for a similar reason and will buy in the future for cheap.

Is it officially known that the games will never be able to be played over 3G? I'm not fussed (actually prefer the idea of asynchronous), just curious if it's built in at the OS level or just a decision that's being made on a game by game basis.

Wifi Vita
8 gig card

My preorder at Amazon, I also have $95 in credit so that helped a bit. I also have some money in my PSN wallet.

So now that Rayman is announced for PC, I wont be getting the Vita version. Any suggestions for a game to take its place?

I already have HSG and Wipeout preordered and would rather wait for price drops on Uncharted abd Blazblue.

If you still want to give your money to Ubisoft there's always Lumines.

This is a Sony/AT&T decision, and can't be changed by individual games.

There is also a 20mb per single download limit over 3G. So there goes downloading any significantly sized game on the go.

Thank god for my iPhone and tethering so I can avoid this crap.

still getting the early 3G bundle cause I'm a a sucker.

Sony is a huge, long running corporation. Much like Microsoft, I don't think you need to worry about them and DD. I could be wrong, of course, but Sony has a brand recognition that they do not want to tarnish. They may be inept, and their shit may be too expensive, and they definitely don't understand how certain markets work... but they are still the company that the owners got up in front of the press and appologized and bowed when their networks got hacked (meanwhile MS still says its our fault with the fifa shit).

I trust them when it comes to investing in downloadable stuff. I think they are a proud company and wouldn't fuck us over. They are a dumb company, sure, but they are a proud one.

OMG Wipeout !

I play like shit though. I need to concentrate more on the race and stop looking at the landscape.

Im getting the 3G early edition also and possibly will never even turn the 3g on. But it's nice to have just in case.

Like right now Hero Academy on the iPhone, an asynchronus MP game, is the greatest thing ever created. If this genre takes off on the Vita, I may do the $15 a month for it.

There is also this idea brewing in my head, and it's a long shot, but if the app store fills up with enough stuff... like the twitter app is good, the browser is good, the skype app is good, some sort of messaging app comes along that I can get text messages to (seems like a longshot... but who knows). If all of this stuff matures and is awesome, i could see myself paying $30 a month for data on the Vita and it basically becoming my smartphone and then buying a payasyougo phone for actual phone calls because I talk on the phone so rarely that I don't even care. Hell, I hate talking on the phone, so a pay as you go phone would give me a reason to not have to talk to my wife when she is driving home anyway and can just tell me about her day then.

Total sidetrack, sorry. But yeah, that's one hope I have and could see paying for 3G if that pans out. Im not banking on it though. Im mostly getting 3G because im a whore and need the early bundle.

I'd save your money for PSN games. Personally I'm pumped for Escape Plan and Super Stardust:

Do we know the price on SSDD? I'll bite if it's the same price as SSDHD was when it was released on the PS3, but I'm not going to pay more than that. I really hope it is priced the same, because it's one of the games I'm looking forward to most.

They'll both be 9.99 or less for sure.

Wtf is Escape Plan. That looks awesome.
Super Stardust was a lock for me the moment they announced it. I love the PS3 one.

I keep seeing "10.00" being thrown around as though its been confirmed. I think the JPN version was 1000 yen which is roughly 12 bucks USD.

It's 1000yen on the Japan store. Probably $10 here, but possibly $15 going by conversion.

I played Escape Plan a few months ago. It's a fun little puzzle game. You basically have to solve the room and move on to the next one. Uses many of the Vita's features.

Japanese PSN pricing is usually just putting a decimal point between the numbers when turned into US pricing. For instance Pixeljunk Shooter 2 was 1000 yen in Japan and $10 in the US.
