Nintendo Investor Meeting [Nintendo 1st Party DLC, NSMB3DS, NiN, Info In OP]

Nintendo Revelaitons and Megatons - summary so far

Wii U:
  • User accounts: Wii U will have individual user accounts, rather than one system-wide account.
  • NFC: Near Field Communication ("touch" data transmission from accessories, credit cards, etc) will be built-in.
  • Online: Miyamoto: "Network has to have a totally new concept to be different."

3DS:
  • 200 3DS titles in development.
  • Nintendo considering DLC for their own software, mentions "Super Mario" as an example:
"If a Super Mario user gets tired, we can then sell digital extras which will drive extra revenue, encourage higher communication amongst users, and possible increased satisfaction and hardware install bases."
  • NSMB 3DS announced: Planning to release a totally new side-scrolling action Super Mario in 2D as a key title for the Nintendo 3DS in the next fiscal year.
  • "Path to profits is improve 3DS and focus on software. Super Mario titles will drive a lot of profitability."
  • 60% of 3DS users have connected to the Internet; wants to expand digital offering, but at "infant stage" now.
  • More Swapnote-like apps? Because of the success of Swapnote, Nintendo is considering other strategies to benefit from this social behaviour.
  • Iwata: Nintendo's priority is to satisfy existing 3DS users, as well as to prepare titles that will expand the user base combined with network (?)

General:
  • Third parties: Several new, previously unconsidered alliances/partnerships with third parties.
  • Communities: You haven't seen the last of them!
  • Retail title downloads: 3DS and Wii U both support digital download of retail titles, but... they still aren't quite sure how to implement it just yet.
  • "We should not decline third parties if they want to offer item billing."
  • DLC: Still planning to offer DLC (possibly talking about their own software), but needs more time to complete its feasibility study on the market and its needs.
  • "Digital will include user to user communications and sharing" (More social networking integration? More Swapnote-like apps? More emphasis on Streetpass/Spotpass?).
  • Better-paced software + DLC: Nintendo has learnt that it shouldn't have stagnant periods between software launches: can fill the gap, and DLC can extend the life of a title.
  • This will be Nintendo's worst financial year, but Iwata thinks the company can reach break-even on 3DS hardware in Q3 of this year.
  • Miyamoto still around, Iwata angry at Wired. "Miyamoto is saying his basic work is to create a big hit" (?)

This is a lot of good news... especially for a investor's conference!
Well, they're simply layout on the table their future plans on how they'll make their future revenues. Unsurprisingly enough, this is of great interest to us!!!

Surely MS have some ownership of the IP/exclusivity deal? Epic haven't been keeping the series on the XBox360 through the kindness of their hearts.

I'm sure that the currently released Gears games can't go anywhere, but any future titles are fair game. I doubt it'll go anywhere.

But how many of them are developed by WarioWare, Inc.?

For a while I've thought one of the most obvious and simple Nintendo franchise DLC possibilities would be expanding on the Mario Kart retro tracks. Now that there are so many past games, having a selection of 16 retro tracks doesn't cover a lot. People would probably be willing to pay for another set of 16 remade by a C-team, or something like a complete set of tracks from one of the previous games.

This! Oh god, this! If Nintendo offered the option to download the complete collection of MK64 tracks in MKWiiU I would spend very good money on it.

I think online play is a very big barrier to this.

Well presumably Microsoft have been going for some heavy persuasion/thrown a lot of cash at EPIC because as far as I know, they do not not own the rights to exclusivity of the Gears IP.

If Nintendo did something like this, it'd show they're absolutely mega serious about the hardcore.

WiiU will have individual account system rather than previous per hardware, hence several users per hardware unit

I DREAMT THIS LAST NIGHT SORT OF

I had a dream that Nintendo's E3 conference was 5 minutes long and it consisted of, "We'll have unified accounts, and all your Wii downloads are transferable."

And the audience started clapping and never stopped.

I R NINTENDO PROFIT

Thanks for this, awesome summary. I'll post this in the OP (if you're ok with it) when everything is over. Don't forget the Nintendo Network information. :)

Investors wanted digital sales... they're getting them.
think this may lend credence to the Nintendo App Store rumour.
Allow EA or THQ to have their own channel to make sales. Nintendo just gets a cut

New Tweet

Trying to teach those who haven't done development before, then get new ideas
Hopefully this leads to a surge in small Nintendo downloadable titles.

Oh and...
Iwata- critical of wired mag story on miyamoto, message should have been miyamoto always consider retirement
SHOTS FIRED

GTAV LIMITED EXCLUSIVITY
GEARS OF WAR 4 NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE
CAPCOM X NINTENDO
CALL OF DUTY WHERE YOU CAN RUN AROUND WITH MARIO'S HEAD
HAHA! I'd buy that for a dollaarr.

"This calendar year will announce several alliances/partnerships with external parties, previously not considered"
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THAT STATEMENT!!
Scared. Bank of America, McDonalds and Disney it will be :)

Iwata throwing grenades at the meeting.
Hehe - I think so. He had to though I guess, they were in the room waiting with AK's ready to mow him down. He had to come in like Rambo.

Wasn't there a rumor a while back that Nintendo was in talks with EA to integrate Origin into the Wii U? This appears to add credence to that, though I hope it's not the case.

I like this idea. Using the tablet to mimic being inside a room and being able to have a 360 degree view would be pretty cool.

What if jumping was mapped to an actual jumping motion? I mean, of course you could just play with buttons too if you wanted, but playing portal standing, 360 degree window all around you, and physically having to jump in order to jump in the game would be simply GODLY

He's passing on his greatness and power so that his games will live forever...

Don't worry Miyamoto will live on forever too..Nintendo will find a way. Whether it be by injecting Nintendium into Miyamoto's body, or cryogenically freezing Miyamoto and giving him eternal life in 30 years.

This means either Origin or Steam on Wii U.

Which means I either buy this like a motherfucker, or grit my teeth with unparallleled self hatred as I buy it anyways.

I'm glad Nintendo is always thinking up new hardware features that aren't tied to the system's main gimmick like streetpass and spotpass that turn out to be so awesome. The wii should have plenty of these.

Or maybe even OnLive?

Or maybe even both? If Nintendo are clever they'd let all third parties provide an app for the Wii U which can be (optionally) downloaded and accessed.

You just might be the first guy to ever get me hard.

Pokemon MMO confirmed?

Looks like Nintendo is finally embracing the internet and doing so with a hard focus on it too. Thats good for all of us as gamers because they will innovate in their own ways

You know...this is starting to smell like an MMO is being hinted at...one that's not DQ10...

Could Nintendo finally be considering a Pokemon MMO?

I could see the 3DS selling a lot of units this Holiday season if Nintendo keep it up.
