"The future is unpredictable. But you can make. So, survive. You become God."
Yes, this is a thing. And they aren't stopping at just one, as Vol.2 was just released in Japan. As you might imagine, it contains songs inspired by Mirai Nikki.
The highlight of the album is the new track Egoist from Yousei Teikoku. If you heard the full version of Kuusou Mythology and the B-side track The Creator you know what to expect, and that's a J-pop song set to a badass gothic rock backing track. The bulk of the thing consists of (very uneven) image songs for all the principal characters early in the show. Yuno and Minene get 2 image songs each, thus establishing who the popular characters are. Yukki, Murmur, and Hina get an image song each, as do Reisuke (Fifth) and Takao (Third) even though he dies literally right away without us knowing anything about him.
reject by OLDCODEX stands out for it's strong rock anthem aesthetic, and it's about everyone's favorite terrorist Minene. Annabel, who preforms Anamnesis, the ED for Another, contributes a more or less straightforward track for the forgettable (Fifth) Reisuke. Faylan, of first ED fame and second OP infamy, contributes a decent image song for Yuno. Nirgilis, who we all remember for Sakura, the 4th and final OP for Eureka Seven, offers us an image song for Murmur which is 100% classic Nirgilis and so while it's a nice song it doesn't at all fit in with the Mirai Nikki theme.
The other tracks include the other hilariously happy and cute image song for Yuno, an image song for Yukki which is forgettable (much like Yukki himself), the annoying spoken-word style image song for Takao, the image songs for Hina and Minene performed by their seiyuus, and the TV-size versions of Kuusou Mythology and Blood Teller.
As compilation albums go, it definitely suffers from the syndrome of some songs being much better than others. Despite the uneven quality, there are a few enjoyable tracks which will end up on my Youtube playlist.
