Witcher 2 for Xbox 360 'Enhanced Edition', 4+ hours bonus content, out April 17th

How technically "forgiving" (read: optimized) is The Witcher 2 on PC? I've got a fairly decent rig (Phenom II X6, GTX 560Ti, 16 gigs DDR3) but don't want to buy it only to have to dumb the settings down to low-med just to get a stable framerate and I've heard this is one of those PC games...
I like games that account for top-of-the-line machines (or even future tech) so long as the developer can make something that looks good on moderate systems. It's like getting an all-new game once you finally upgrade your machine. It's the Origin way!

I would think it would run quite well on that rig. High/Ultra settings. There are a lot of helpful tweaks in the Performance thread.

GOG.com also bringing out a comic for Witcher 2 owners on 17th April, as well as starting sale to reel in new players on the same day.

DAY ONE. Man, I had to skip on this because my PC blows and Laptop would explode from the awesome, but will play the shit out of this on my Box. My friend loves this game, and showed it to me a few months back...and I'm just pumped to play it. End.

saw the GT trailer.

I wonder someone not familiar with Witcher will think that they will play as this big assassin dude.

I've never played Witcher 2, and I definitely got that impression. So you actually play a character who tries to stop that assassin dude?

Letho is easily one of the best videogame characters/villains in a long time. Aside from how well they use him in the story, I love that he is a mass of muscles. He's a fucking man and he doesn't get "typecasted" into some mentally weak buffoon mid-boss. That's a character I can get behind.

Yea Letho rules.

Haha. I have yet to beat the first chapter of Witcher 2. First, I put it off for the 2.0 update. Now I'm probably gonna put it off for the "Enhanced Edition" update. Probably will never get to finishing it.

You can easily play it on High/Ultra.

curious about the differences/advantages of buying on GOG or Steam for Pc

from what I understand, Steam has achievements and steamworks, but GoG version is completely DRM free. No way to get both without double dipping? (as in the gog version registers with steam)

also confused by what it means by "anyone who owns it before April gets it for free." is the enhanced edition content paid content afterwards?

GoG version comes with an artbook too, and is the only one confirmed to have the comic so far I believe. I got retail, but if I double dip it'll be on GoG for the those two.

this means that you won't be able to get anything other than Enhanced Version.

But it's basically what happens just before the footage they showed in the (first?) PC trailer with Iorveth and Letho. I think I recognize the head.

Perhaps it will be the CG intro that plays once you boot up the game. The first game had something like that which was a CG rendition of Geralt's first encounter with a Striga. At least this new scene connects with the game, as the scene from the first game is years before all of the other adventures that take place from that encounter in the novels to the start of the games. I think there's a 5-7 year gap between that scene and the start of the game.

Patch comes out the same day.

Oh, fuck yeah. Put it in me. I'm ready for my second time through.

Yeah. Saying it's "alluded" to is an odd choice of wording. It's showing exactly what you said, Iorveth taking out the king whose head he shows to Letho. Pretty awsome opening.

It will be.

So the PC version is getting the '4hrs extra content' for free? OP doesn't mention anything.

Of course. CDProject doesn't fuck around. OP is banned, so there won't be updates to be found there.

Someone should just change the thread title of all the witcher 2 threads so people can stop asking about the PC content. It's been confirmed for months now.

He basically is what he is. No needless bullshit or emotional trimmings.

Will all the changes be available to PC users? I'm using the controller, so I want all the new 360 pad optimizations, menus, and stuff. Not just the content.

You know how awesome CD Projekt is?

While your ordinary X360 game costs about 220PLN here, the Witcher 2 (Standard Edition, that already includes OST, a guide and a world map) will be sold for 130PLN (almost half of the default console game price).

For 220PLN (again, the default price for a new console game) you can get the Premium Edition that includes:
- the game
- OST
- the making of video
- a world map
- an instruction
- a guide
- an artbook
- a medallion
- some stickers
- a kick ass box

I mean DAMN.

Man that Special Edition has so much to it, some pubs expect one of those extra items to make a Special Edition.

I would love to get that. Will defo grab this for 360 at launch, never played a Witcher game.

Ah, okay. Interesting.

I've heard the game can be tough. Sort of want to try dark difficulty out of morbid curiosity when this comes out, though I'm sure I'll only last for a few minutes at most.

I'd be surprised if the difficulty of that fight weren't tweaked for the console release.

I'm not sure what it was like prior to the 2.0 patch but the fight wasn't that difficult on normal difficulty in it's current state. Just keep your distance when his Quen was active, roll away from his range attacks, use bombs and stay behind him when attacking him with standard melee attacks.

At launch version he killed me like 50 times before I could finally squeek past him :lol

Woah! SOLD!

I had a lot of trouble with him too. Up to that point, I felt like I actually "got" the gameplay and was able to work around its early quirks but then they threw Letho at me and all went to hell.

Hes a lot better now but I wouldnt be surprised if they tweak it further.

Exactly. That fight wasn't the natural culmination of the skills you'd picked up at that point - instead it was a huge difficulty spike.

All pre-patch. I haven't played 2.0.

They tried this with TW1 for 360 (called rise of the white wolf) but the port house didn't meet expectations and the project was cancelled.

Hell, the original Witcher 1 release on PC shouldn't have shipped...that game was terribly optimized. Quite a gulf between that and the enhanced edition.

CD Projekt Red is a small studio. I think it was easier for them to port the game to Xbox 360 because the Xbox 360 is similar to the PC than a PS3.

Figured that but still. :(

The Witcher2 for 360 and Xenoblade for Wii are both games im interested in. And they both come out in april. Yay for me.
