Chihayafuru comes down to the fact that girls don't buy anime. Well, mostly likely anyway.

There's the rare exception like Hakuouki and Tiger & Bunny, but point taken. I mean this in the least offensive way possible, but I enjoy Chihayafuru so much that I often forget that it's shoujo.

Fujoshi buy anime. Chihayafuru is not a show for fujoshi.

Also, it's josei, not shoujo. Not that there's always a huge difference.

Watched the first ep of Lagrange

man, its been 17 years and we're still following the Eva formula to a tee. Utterly terrible. Pacing has no rhyme or reason, and why be happy about 2D mechs when the animation is so static and unengaging (about as boring as Fafner, another Xebec show) and the character designs are utterly devoid of any personality or uniqueness. They're too bland to even be considered background characters in any other superior show.

feels bad man
Uh what? The show's been average so far, but it's not even attempting to replicate "the Eva formula." Madoka's entire character and very development is in total contrast to Shinji's to even entertain this notion. Not to mention the relatively lighthearted tone strikes a closer similarity to other mecha shows than anything like the earlier Eva episodes unless memory has served me wrong. Also, the possibility there may be
a big tonal shift
later in the series kills this comparison for me.

I once read a book where at the very start a man died in a motorcycle accident and his heart was given to a woman in a transplant operation. She then took on his memories of the SECRET ELIZABETHAN ASTRONOMY CONSPIRACY he had been investigating.

She also fell in love with the dead man's brother, and by the end of the book she had so absorbed the heart into herself that she didn't need to take immunosuppresants or anything.

It was worse than almost any anime I have ever seen.
This sounds like a certain video game I will refrain from spoiling...

Also, watching it gives me something to discuss here, whereas watching Usagi Drop, Tatami Galaxy, and Kuuchuu Buranko just leaves me with reactions that go, "This show is good, I liked it, looking forward to watching the next episode!" That's not particularly interesting, but I can't help it.
You could always delve deeper into detail why you thought something was good :D

Her MARU! in the OP is so strong that it shatters reality and reforms it as a colorful sea of stars and galaxies. MARU is the very power of creation.
That wouldn't be far from the prophecy now, now would it?

No really.

Knight in the Area 4:
I'm not thrilled with some of the choices the adaptation has been making so far. It's still a decent show, but it's definitely not as good as the manga. Still, we're about to get to the high school period, so things should definitely pick up there.

Lupin III 13

A time machine? Sure, why not? I just have to accept that in this world with magic disguises, anything can happen.

If there's anything that instantly differentiates the Miyazaki/Takahata episodes from the Osumi ones, it's the lack of female sexualization. Lupin almost getting Fujiko to marry him is a far cry from last episode, where he slapped her on the butt and tried to get her to sleep with him.

CCS 43

Sakura
has that recurring dream
Mizuki and Yukito are really good archers
It turns out that
Sakura has one card left and then this "Yue" will appear
Kero-chan
figures out who Mizuki is. He leaves Sakura to go talk to her
The
Earthy
card appears.

CCS 44

Earthy
starts causing trouble around town.
Sakura dispatches of it rather easily with Syaorans help.
Kerberos becomes awesome looking.
and then
Yukito
turns into
Yue
. WTF. Kind of saw it coming but not exactly like this.
Syaoran
has to fight Yue in the final judgement battle and loses.
Sakura
is next
- and then- credits. Fuck.
Next episode it is then.

Is it required that I watch Aquarion before I start Aquarion Evol, or am I able to understand it as a standalone story?

Ben-To 10-12 END

I thought the ending was boring. The series was entertaining; the action scenes were nice. I found the comedy between the characters - especially the fan fiction writing girl - to be hilarious.

Future Diary 14

Aru is interesting. He's definitely a more likable character than Yuki.
Someone get Yuno a large dosage of anti-depressants. Nice to see new diary owners being introduced. They're gunning after Yuki.

Guilty Crown 13-14

Of course wheelchair girl's Void is a
mechanical legs add-on which allows her to hover in the air. How convenient.

In episode 14,
Shu was showing more courage, and has taken up a leadership role. I'm liking his character a whole more now. Now that the student body has elected him as student council president, he has all of the students at his disposal to use for their Voids, and the device they found which rates the power of their Voids will enable them to rank Voids.

Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere 12-13

I loved a certain song that was playing from the soundtrack. First season is over. The second season will be airing in the Summer.

Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing 11-14

They've explained what happened in the past during the Grand Race. The culture and made-up language of the Gracians are interesting.

Episode 14 was great.
The Federation invasion of Gracies was an exciting battle to watch, but Gracies activated an Exile to defend itself and decimated most of the Federation fleets. The next episode is going to be fun because the Federation is pulling out their trump card and forcing Princess Liliana to activate another Exile to use against Gracies.

Phi Brain: Puzzle of God 16

Puzzle of Beheading
sounds terrifying.

Highschool DxD 4

How has Issei gone from a useless pervert loser to a relatively charismatic badass that makes speeches about friendship in 3 episodes? Not that I'm complaining, but it isn't exactly believable development, especially when it seems to have happened the second he met Asia.

Anyway, some decent action here that should have been longer. I'm liking Issei's ability to
imitate at least partially the other pieces' fighting styles.
Next episode looks cool.

Indeed, important distinction. Sucks for Chihayafuru, but probably great news for Apollon ;P

The people who buy T&B aren't real women though. :p

Right, the show is such powerful fujoshi wish fulfillment that they think they actually are Barnaby Brooks Jr. by the time the show ends. But hey, who among us hasn't actually at least momentarily envied Bunny? Kotetsu is the ultimate bro.

Im understnding Evol just fine without seeing the Aquarion, it also takes place thousands of years in the future with a new cast.

I need to check out the Horizon OST, I need to hear the full battle theme.

Bunny is so tsundere.

I didn't because I was Tiger in that show.

I at least certainly wish I was friends with Hiroaki Hirata and Masakazu Morita.

Area no Kishi 4
Decent episode. Psychologist needs more screentime.
It seemed as if, in the end, Suguru wasnt that good if Ryuochi was better at his position and Kakeru was the knight, kind of disappointed at that but still

Some of the characters dont even look U-15...

will probably be condemned for this (more for being a terrible comparison)

Metal Gear Solid 2.
Didn't they
retcon that shit with Ocelot and Liquid's arm in MGS4?

Thermae Romae 5-6
Is it too late to kick Black Rock Shooter out of noitaminA and just make more of this? :(
The last thing noitaminA needs is more cheap flash anime shorts like High Score or Double-J.
plus BRS is gonna own

Spring 2012 is really shaping up to be something. I did not know KyoAni's new show was also slated for April. Character page was updated today.

Spring season looks pretty stacked to me:

Eureka 7 AO
Fate/Zero part 2
Space Bros
Apollon
Tsuritama
Ozuma
Hyouka

Any one of those would be possible "show of the season/year" material in a normal season. The fact that season 2 of Fate/Zero is like 5th or 6th on the list of shows I'm looking forward to in that season is pretty incredible.

Add to those a bunch of other stuff that could be fun like Medaka Box, AKB48, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Dusk Maiden, etc etc. Spring of the forever imo.

Femdom: The Animation, or Bakemonogatari For Dummies.

Iye Marisa is a serious contender to Rie Kugimiya for Tsundere Queen seiyuu.

Wish fulfillment? Naw, they just want to see guys fuck each other!

Man, for "dummies" is an understatement. The levels of trolling can't even compare.

Eri Kitamura's voice is so much hotter though. Sex for my eardrums.

Though Ise Marisa can do other types of voices too. Like, I completely didn't recognize her in Ben-To until I looked it up.

Come back? I don't think i've watched it before.

Everyone takes a look at the premise, thinks "hey, this could just be a trashier Oreimo", decides to watch or goes to look at some promotional art, and then they hit the wall known as THE CHARACTER DESIGN. Those lanky bodies, homely faces, art that screams no animation budget. Still deciding to watch after that serious moment of pause is more than enough to qualify as "coming back", even if you only had a moment's familiarity with the show.

I couldn't do it. It's a high, high wall to overcome.

Ah, right. When you put it that way...

And it's not just the shitty character design, man. The comedy is the same recycled garbage from a hundred other shows.

So it's futile to even try and acclimate yourself to the character designs because the actual show is bad. Noted for when.....ah, who am I kidding, I'd never watch this anyway.

Symphogear 4

So close to killing off Tsubasa, my tears, wow
. First half of the episode was awesome, even the dialogue was good. Straight up battles and music is what I signed up for. Second half was decent, though
Miku gives me vibes that she may be a Symphogear...

I'd rather wait until they show a PV for this one. The character design "tease" isn't bad, but something tells me that it won't be another Mononoke/Trapze:

http://www.tsuritama.com/img/photo/photo0115.jpg[IMG]
Of the shows I listed, I'm probably most wary of that one. I love Nakamura but C was certainly awful. The character art itself doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot to me, it not being akin to a Mononoke or Trapeze doesn't really rule out that it could be a high quality show of a different kind. We are getting info on this show next week correct?

6 days and 2 hours, according to the countdown on the site.

Persona 4: The Cartoon 16: They handled this a lot better than I was expecting considering how stupidly they dealt with Kanji's arc. Speaking of him, I was surprised at how well they were integrating his social link stuff into Naoto's story. It draws a nice parallel between both that is played more for laughs in the game.
