Space Runaway Ideon 20:
We get some good plot developments during the opening and closing scenes. The characters are starting to think more about why things have been happening, and they're beginning to form a plan beyond just 'survive'. We also get some info on what the world is like outside of the remote corners of the galaxy that the action has been in thus far, which is appreciated. This episode was pretty interesting in that most of the fight was shown from the perspective of the siblings fighting for the Buff Clan, and the Ideon was presented more as the unbeatable enemy who ended their lives than the dramatic savior. It resulted in a downtrodden feel to the end of the episode.

Also, Tomino's fascination with chickens continues.

NGE 4

It's grabbing me. Theme song still owns.
Because I always have to: This.

Shin Mazinger Z 7

Despite the freaky face, Ashura doesn't seem like a very intimidating villain. He/she keeps getting knocked around by various characters without much effort. Oh well, still interested in the character based on the 2nd OP.

Broshikosei 03:

Some of the faces that Hidenori was making in the
mole hair
skit had me cracking up. He was really close to Excalibur Face at one point. Good stuff.

After catching up on Chihayafuru, I have to decide what to marathon next. I have most of P4 and Ikamusume S2 to catch up on from fall, or I could start something entirely new. Not really sure what kind of series I'm in the mood for.

Watched the first ep of Lagrange

man, its been 17 years and we're still following the Eva formula to a tee. Utterly terrible. Pacing has no rhyme or reason, and why be happy about 2D mechs when the animation is so static and unengaging (about as boring as Fafner, another Xebec show) and the character designs are utterly devoid of any personality or uniqueness. They're too bland to even be considered background characters in any other superior show.

But the pretty, pretty colors, bro.

If Lagrange was aiming for the Eva formula, they failed to make their protagonist whiny enough.

(I also think the action animation and general visual design has a lot of energy and zest to it, matching Madoka's spirit.)

I joke, but I agree with Dead. Once the awe of all dat color wore off, I was left with an OP track that I'll get later, and a pretty tired show.
The OP isn't bad, but then I'm reminded its sung by the Ranka chick and then I get angry for liking it :(

I still haven't been able to finish Lagrange ep2. Will go back when I get my attention span back.

e: it probably doesn't help that I just watch the OP like twice and then I don't feel like watching the actual episode afterward.

Another 3

This episode ended exactly where I stopped reading the manga, which is perfect because the follow up to this will be all new to me, though it sorta sucks also, because I'll already know for when the manga will be out here.
I must admit that how everyone tries to keep Sakakibara in the dark is sort of hilarious (and counterproductive).

On one hand, I suppose that due to the decline in mecha it may receive praise just for having genre-specific elements that came standard even in bad mecha anime of olden days, but on the other hand, MARU.

(I also disagree that it's bad/a rehash/etc. and think it's good in its own right.)

Now and Then, Here and There 5

Oh, so that's why he's King.
He has plot armor!

Meanwhile, our hero makes the startling realization he wasn't sent to summer camp.

Nisemonogatari 1

The banter and scenery are as captivating and Senjougahara is as crazy as always. I love this series.

I hope they explain why the hell Araragi was tied up at some point.

Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki 1-6

Oh man, where to begin? The characters, the setting, the hijinx, everything about this has just been fun. Ryoko is a riot, Ayeka is a bitch, Sasami is moe, Mihoshi is retarded and Tenchi is Tenchi. The technology on display is certainly very unique and I find most of the various ship designs to be a sight to behold. Just don't try to explain to me how is it that a rabbit manages to transform into a spaceship because I don't think my feeble mind would be able to handle that.

The one fault I can sort of see is that the frenetic pacing forces things forward way too fast at times and it's easy to be left wondering just exactly how or why things are happening at some points. Still, the show is so entertaining and it manages to handle itself so well that most of that ends up being easy to overlook as a result.

Man, I'm feeling very nostalgic of traditional cel animation of late.

Book Girl (Movie)

What an emotional ride near the end. What was a seemingly innocent slice-of-life story quickly transformed into a romantic drama. Thankfully not the annoying kind.

The art is beautiful, with night-sky scenery porn that totally captured my tastes and set a fantastic mood to the story.
Done by IG <3 Rinne's OP also had awesome nightsky porn

The story has so much doses of cute, thanks to Tohko. Her paper-eating expressions are so damn hhnnnng.

A small question regarding the story.

That was Tohko visiting him at the end, right? Thank god. It's not really implied in the movie, but are they going out according to the novels/manga/OVA? So thankful that he didn't choose the crazy girl because the moments with Inoue and Tohko were so heartwarming.

Sometimes that's worse because it means having to watch 90% old material just to see 10% new material.

True but at least there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

I need uncut Digimon releases, though (although I know it will never happen). :(

Yep your stuck with "I'm going Digital" and the like.

I'm guessing that K-On! bombed so they're not interested in picking up the superior S2. :(

Also, no Wandering Son means American anime fans also suck. lol

America doing something right.

Something a little more relevant to this thread than just pointing him to his youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6MP8QM3_PI

He produced and released two (pretty darn good) jazz cover albums of anime songs, and that video is for his upcoming 3rd cover album. That channel, 'platinajazz', has some of the other songs they've recorded for their albums.

For his own stuff though, 'house' is the genre he tends to list first in his range.

Wow, thank you for posting this. Faber's house tracks are decent, but I love this.

firehawk no ecchi!!
Yet you still ate those pages anyway!

Is the sun finally going to set on Jex's reign?
Are new moe overlords will rule with cuteness.

Wow, that was quick.

And
yes, Tohko comes to visit him
.

You know, I don't remember what I thought of the angst at the time I watched it though. I probably said that it would have been better if Book Girl was a TV series and the could spread the Haruhi over 13-26 episodes as opposed to condensing it into one 2 hour movie.

NERV gets no respect I'll tell ya.

The pacing did feel off, wiki tells me that there were 8 books. Too much content to push into a 2 hr movie but it was done well for what it was I guess.
