Gamaran

This manga is 99% fighting and I'm completely fine with that since it's pretty awesome in this regard. The downside is, that you're bound to move too swiftly through chapters.

Back to catching up with Conan and Gintama aka the best manga ever.

Edit: 2 new "translated" Wolf Guy chapters... oh god why...

Pein is a fucking awesome name.

FUCK no.

Right, thanks for the clarification, i'll totally call him Pain from now on! Angry Grimace, you are mistaken if you think i'm childish enough to resort to ignoring everyone in this thread "simply because they're teasing."

You know, all in good fun? Stage On decided (on a whim) to take it one step further by calling it me out due to his (frankly) unsound and misinformed assumption. His post simply had the appeal of a paper cut. I really can't stand snide self indulgent posts like that.

It's cool. I couldn't care less

I would respond to all this, possibly angrily, if I had any clue what you're talking about.

Shit is basically flying off the hook. It's like shit wants nothing to do with that hook. The hook filed for divorce from that shit and is now seeking custody of the hook and the shit's two kids.

Akumetsu vol 1

This seems pretty cool. Over the top action and stupid logic. Plus the art isn't that bad and the mask the MC wears is pretty awesome.

So you're going to spell Pain correctly now right

Bleach: Why Me Cry 2

Oh, I just stepped into that controversial anime thread. Not stepping back in there.

There is one thing I will say about Bleach though, and that's that I feel a lot of people don't take it seriously because they are going to put in as much into considering a manga as they feel the author is giving them.

And in that regard, a lot of people feel that Kubo doesn't give them shit. From the "empty" panels...to the things that seem like "plot holes" because Kubo loves to string along plotlines similar to Oda (only Kubo does it at a much slower pace and doesn't have as much shit stuffed in between)...to . These are things that make us go "Well, Kubo ain't taking this seriously, so i'll just read it for the lolz, if anything". But then, there are the people that actually look at the shit Kubo does and finds it as a particular style of writing.

Now, don't worry, I'm not going Bleach Fanboy here, in reality I would never say that Bleach is actually a better manga than OP. But I am starting to believe that this style, whether lazy or not, is an adopted style; Minimalism. He does it in his plots, he does it in his art, and he does it in his writing. That's why Kubo puts as much effort into character art as he does on week-by-week basis, I believe he's trying to stop "minimal" from becoming "empty". How successful is he at it? Eh, I guess it depends on who you talk to. But what I really believe is that this minimal style at doing a weekly shounen manga is chalked up as simple laziness because of his competition. When we're reading a chapter that is full of stuff, and then read a Bleach chapter, the minimalism is disregarded.

Maybe minimalism is just a bad style to adopt for this medium. In a week by week action series. But I like it, in some facets.

I first started thinking that this is a style rather than Kubo being lazy when I thought about the volume covers that Kubo does. I'm sure most people think that those are in good taste, but in reality, those covers are very similar to the manga as a whole. In comparison to the covers recently posted which have plenty of things going on in the background, multiple characters and lots of colors, Bleach's covers have a white background with one character and the logo. And that's how every single cover has been since day one.

At the end of the day, it seems like art/style is a big emphasis as to what Kubo puts into Bleach. "All style, no substance" might be right after all.

At least, that's how I view taking Bleach seriously and why a lot of others don't.

This is not an excuse for a lot of the negatives of Bleach, though. Sometimes, even I feel as if Kubo didn't give me enough return for what I waited for, or that sometimes things are just shitty in execution. But I really do feel as if Minimalism being pushed to the forefront in a weekly shonen is what gets him to be thrown out before people even take it seriously. Another thing is that the minimal doesn't just apply to the art. It applies to the plot as well, and that's just annoying for readers to take seriously. So when Kubo does execute serious moments, it is regarded as a joke instead.

Yes...

@ Stat Flow. Pretty damn good post. It's not overly long or fluffy, it has actual content. I should check out that anime thread hehe.

Coincidently, i'm planning on re-reading Bleach. Like One Piece, I never gave it a "proper" read (from beginning to end) so it'll be interesting re-reading the earlier chapters and catching things I may have missed.

PS: Angry Grimace is now Angry scowl.

I'm not sure I completely agree. It certainly fits with his seemingly new found love of minimalist architecture (see Arrancar arc) but on the other hand his character designs have become more elaborate and ridiculous at times.

It's certainly difficult to draw good backdrops with the look of the world he's going now but it's just something you have to keep in mind when drawing a manga. Oda's and Kishi's stuff feel much more consistent in this regard, with the former having the advantage of pushing an extremely varied world from the very beginning where almost nothing seems out of place, kinda like Toriyama does with his worlds.

It's an interesting observation and you might be right on the money. Personally I just think you're giving him too much credit since the execution is lacking at best. You can't go minimal if you keep on introducing new characters and kill them off at a steady pace. At least IMO.

Does it put a major focus on politics? I kind of want to start it, but I'm iffy on doing so since that isn't something I really care about.

From the first volume, his actions seem politically motivated. Like attacking a group of the richest politicians cause they are corrupt and shit like that. Or attacking a corrupt police officer and so on. I don't think it will be a heavy political manga, but more like "I'm gonna kill these guys because of these political reasons".

FUCK

Just read like all 18 pages of that controversial anime thread. AKA

Why I hate you and every thing you stand for having X opinion

I actually got depressed reading it. This holier than thou, self righteous bullshit is the sourceof all unpleasantness on the internet. I'm fucking glad the majority of the people who posted in that thread aren't regulars (i'm not naming names, but christ so many downers.) Could you imagine it on a daily basis?

ME: Hey guys that Naruto / OP chapter was kickass.
You guys: (Agree / disagree / joke / insult / etc)
Those guys: I cannot believe how incredibly stupid you are. I mean rock-hard
stupid. So stupid that it goes way beyond the threshold of "retardation"
ME: :(

I mean the only thing worse than than their logic is their manners.

So this manga that was about fighting and being an asshole... Is now about dancing and being a pussy? Okay.

@PK Gaming

Grow a thicker skin. Or use the ignore function.

I dont think anywhere doesnt have that going, then again, Im quite sure some people do find it baffling how one could like x chapter at an S+ rating and another gives out constant F's or hate on it

at least thats how I envision what people think when people post praise on Fairy Tail and others behind the scenes grinding and gnashing their teeth in befuddlement

Don't ever change DTL.

I've got golden balls, its ok. Really, I wasn't offended and I exaggerated how depressing I was. Still, the fighting in that thread was urgh.

(besides the ignore function is bullshit, everybody knows its just a glorified way of getting attention / sticking a middle finger to someone you hate)

I just posted in the controversial anime thread. Fun times. On a related note, I'm entering public office for being the antagonist of almost everyone in mangaf.

*starts putting up campaign themed TLR posters*

Recommend me manga with great art. Don't say REAL, Vagabond, Takemitsu Zamurai,Slam Dunk,Bleach,One piece,Bleach,Air Gear(or any other Oh Great manga), Bakuman(or any other Obata manga)Eye Shield,Aiki,Witches(or any other manga by that artist) or FMA(or silver spoon)

Junji Ito has good scenery art. Try Uzumaki or Gyo.

Sun-Ken Rock, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Until Death Do Us Part, Red Haired Snow White, Ludwig Revolution, Otomegatari, Tasogare...

I'll check em out, sadness of the heart looks interesting based on the link you gave me.

I remember not being too fond of Uzumaki's art but I'll see.

Sun-Ken Rock, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, Until Death Do Us Part, Red Haired Snow White, Ludwig Revolution, Otomegatari, Tasogare...

I remember it looking alright at some angles but the anatomy kills it for an art style that's sort of striving for realism. I'll look into the others.
Homunculus
eehhh, same problem as Sun ken rock. Does the art get better over the course of the manga?
\edit: nice backgrounds though.

So.... what's this about the anime thread? I'm planning to watch new animes and stuff and figure that would be a good place to start but from the looks of things it seems it would be better that I go elsewhere?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Not the official anime thread, the recent "Controversial Opinions on Anime" thread. Although, I don't go to Anime-GAF anyway, so IDK.

This thread is elsewhere. Go anywhere else and then report back how that works out for you.
