I get the feeling they're not doing it for the only reason that matters: money.

Why let people remote play all this stuff on their PSVita when they can get people to buy the game AGAIN on PSVita.

The convenience of being able to play their PS3 from anywhere in the world sounds a lot more attractive to me than "Buy x game twice".

They should have made a real remote play a PS+ feature. Would have sold a ton of subs that way.

It's never going to be optimized. I'd be shocked if they ever addressed it. Same with the browser and some other issues that really need to be addressed.

Hey guys, so I hung out at the Sony store and tried out the headset and the Vita.

I worked with the Vita for maybe 45 minutes and tried 4 or 5 demos. Beautiful screen, buttons felt good, nubs were responsive. Nobody will ever mistake the video quality or graphics for a PS3 or 360, but they're decidedly better than the Xbox or PS2. That in itself is a feat in my eyes.

I found the UI to be fairly cool if not a little busy, and the ease of entering in and exiting out of games was fantastic.

If I were to complain about anything, it would be the placement of the nubs. I think perhaps my hands are a little bigger than the average hands of people expected to play these portable consoles, because the placement of the nubs always seem to be too far in, forcing me to hold the console by the tips of my fingers to get comfortable thumb placement on them...which brings its own problems and is generally unrealistic for me. I think for my hands, optimal thumbstick/nub placement would be at the top corners of the screen instead of the bottom corners. where they are now wasn't as bad as on the original PSP, but I still found my thumbs getting sore while playing Wipeout...an issue that turned me off to certain genres of games on the PSP, and has me preparing to sell my 3DS which is decidedly worse in comfort. Other than that, I loved how the buttons felt. D-Pad especially.

Weight was good...gyroscopic stuff was good...etc. Nothing really to complain about. I'm still not 100% sure I'm going to keep my pre-order, but I must say it's a very nice device.

PS: played the Drake demo...$50 for that is highway robbery.

No, you can use Remote Play over WiFi.
So how does that work? You pair your Vita with the PS3 and then as long as the PS3 is on and connected to the internet + Vita is on plus connected to the internet, you can play your PS3 games on the game?

And paying $30 for 1/3 of a racing game (Ridge Racer) feels better? j/k

Ridge Racer is a pretty good deal actually if you can find it for something around $20, the DLC pass was around $10 in Japan for the first 3 months and I expect it to be around the same price in the west.

Yes, it worked the same on the PSP.

With Remote Play you can set it up so you can turn on/turn off your PS3 away from home. Both would need to be connected to the internet.

As for the latter part, yes. It's like Onlive where the video is streamed to you while the inputs are sent back.

What is the full cost of Ridge Racer anyway if one was to get the game and wanted all tracks available? And how many tracks is that anyway?

Crazy. Sony should definitely enable that then. Would be an incredible feature being able to play full console titles anywhere.

So how does this work? Have they officially detailed a calendar of dlc releases? What happens when the first 3 months are over? Do you then pay a la carte for each track/car dlc?

What the hell, you have to pay tax for Amazon now? If thats the case its not a deal to buy the 299 bundle.

I will see what newegg offer.

edit: just ordered the same $299 bundle on Newegg. I get faster 3 days free shipping and no tax.

Once again, GAF gaga over amazon for absolutely no reason.

- No sales tax in Oregon
- free release day shipping with Amazon Prime

The gaga is justified for some.

Only your not really turning your PS3 off. You're putting it in remote play standby mode.

3 months is the period of the special $10 price, it will be something like $15 or whatever after 3 months.
The DLC pass should count for all the DLC if I'm correct and they'll release new tracks/cars every week but I don't know the specifics for the western version.

EDIT: The DLC pass in Japan seems to count for all the DLC till the end of May.

Will every game be available to purchase over psn?
Yes.

Yes.

Okay. Not bad if the dlc is consistently released. But the damn game's base price should be priced lower, dar it!

I'm on the fence about my Rayman pre-order. I bet it will look amazing, and could be fun to play on the go but the PC version is tempting, and cheaper. But then my launch will be Hot Shots Golf only... I refuse to pay $50 for Uncharted and none of the other games are begging to be purchased. Argh.

There's something far more appealing to me about playing a good handheld platformer - i'm definitely picking it up day 1. Plus it helps justify the outrageous hardware purchase :P I've been going back and forth about buying it for ps3 but the vita handheld aspect sold me.

I don't even like that kind of platformer (ones with a ton of collectibles), but I had so much fun with it. It's a good game to just leave in your system, too, because there's a lot of stuff to complete after you run through each stage once. <3

This actually reminds me of a bigger issue I'm having with Vita games. My PSP library is split between UMDs and digital versions of games. I'd love to have my favorites kicking around on the memory stick 24/7 (like with Monhun, Duodecim, MHX, Dracula X, music games, fighting games, grindy games), but it's more comforting to own physical copies... I'm still wondering if I should go digital for Lumines or not, as I would've loved that option for I and II on PSP. Meh.

I have the same doubt. I'm not going to buy the game on day one, and I'm sure that after a month you will be able to get a physical copy fot 15$/15€, while the digital version will still be at the original price. So I can see myself getting a physical copy, even if the digital version is clearly the one to prefer.

My account has been validated :0!! Here's what I'm looking at for launch:

PlayStation Vita WiFi only
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Wipeout 2048
Touch My Katamari
16 GB memory card
Hori hard case (No screen protector because of that month after reflection posted in the 2011-2012 thread)

Can't wait for the 22nd!

Yes.

What's been released so far, in Japan, for Ridge Racer?

Well I was up in San Jose today and had some time to kill while my wife ate big a baby shower. So I stopped in at the [strikeFuncoland[/s] GameStop I used to work at and they had just set up their Vita demo unit. Damn, it's so nice. Felt great in my hands and was surprisingly lite evn with the tether attached to it. I played through the Wipeout 2048 demo, beautiful game but damn did I suck at it. Also payed through the extremely brief Uncharted demo, good stuff but I'm glad I'm renting it from Gamefly.

The Vita definitely lives up to my expectations and I'm stoked to receive mine on 2/22.

I have 19 hard ons for this thing. The next couple weeks are going to be brutal. I think i posted earlier in this thread, but I finalized everything today. This is all paid in full.

Early edition bundle with Little Deviants ($350)
32GB card ($100)
Cradle ($20)
FIFA ($40)
Rayman ($40)

I have $120 on my PSN account right now and $140 in PSN cards sitting in my desk (you can only have $150 in your wallet at once). $260

$810 - Though it's not guaranteed that I will spend all $260 on the PSN at launch, or on the vita for that matter, but chances are pretty high the vast, vast majority of it will.

With the PSN money im definitely getting:

Wipeout
Hot Shots
Katamari
Modnation
Army Corps from Hell (unless reviews totally trash it... but i love strategy games)
Super Stardust
Escape Plan

If Lumines comes in at $30 on the PSN i'll get it.

When Dungeon Hunter drops to $25 or lower i'll get that.

And I also have gamefly which im bumping up to a 4 game plan, so at/around launch im gonna rent:

Uncharted
Shinbido
Ridge Racer (though if its confirmed to have all tracks for $40 total i may just buy)
Virtua Tennis 4

I am beyond hyped. Luckily I'm one of the 19 people that liked FFXIII so XII-2 will help kill some time over the next couple weeks, and I was able to sock away all this money working overtime so I should come out of this without being divorced. So things are looking bright.

As I can only afford one game at launch, I think I've settled on UMvC3. I feel it's guaranteed to be a title I play a lot, and I passed on the console version of Ultimate, due to irritation of it releasing in the same year as vanilla.

I don't know why it bothers me so much, but all this doom and gloom around the launch of the vita really pisses me off. Yeah, I think the market has changed, sure a dedicated handheld probably can't be as successful as they have in the past, but it can carve out its own profitable corner, it looks like an amazing system in its own right, and projecting utter failure at this point is not only irresponsible, it's ignorant.

Vita WiFi
32 GB Memory Card
Hot Shots (PSN)

Gamefly - Uncharted

Going all digital for purchases, will gamefly titles I feel like playing just a bit. I'm putting my money down and hoping for the best, the thing deserves a chance.

Traded in my old PSP 2000 and upgraded to the 3G Vita for the launch day bundle. Got $50 for the PSP and $14.30 for my 8gb memory card so it was pretty much a free upgrade to trade-in something I'm not going to use anymore. The hype is slowly building as it is almost February.

Let's say I don't ever have any plan to pay any one for 3G service. And since it will try to auto renew, let's say I wouldn't use the free month or whatever that comes with the 3G launch bundle. I also don't plan to ever hack my Vita if that becomes a possibility.

Is there any feasibility at all of the 3G version ever being advantageous to have? Since I can't upgrade, I get this feeling that I need to go for the more expensive version. And the new bundle sounds really nice. But it's still 20 dollars extra for something I don't really think I want or will even be able to use. I can't think of any use the 3G hardware would ever serve, but I just kind of wanted to check to help ease my paranoia.

Built in GPS is the only advantage of the 3G model if you don't plan on paying for 3G. Games may or may not make use of the GPS in the future so it is a gamble and more about a just in case it uses it type of thing. I'd imagine the GPS is better for Near as well.

I felt the same way and was leaning towards Wifi when it was a $50 difference. But with the bundle now I see no reason to not get the 3G version. I'd rather short myself a small amount then be upset later down the road at not having it.

Of course I can't see why I would want the 3G down the road, but for $20 why not. I'd definitely find a use for it if the browser wasn't total crap. I hear Mibbit doesn't even work on it although I have no way of confirming this myself.

I'd feel more comfortable if I knew what the $15 games actually were.

As someone who has an iPhone, iPad and 3DS, here's how I think it all breaks down when it comes to OMG DOOMED when it comes to the Vita.

iPhone and iPad people by and large are extremely defensive about their devices because the games aren't taken "seriously." So they overcompensate for this by talking about how it's changing the world and everything else was doomed. THE 3DS WAS DOOOOOMMMEMD! Except then it wasn't, and that got explained away with "well, of course nintendo will make their money but everything else is dooooommmmmeeeddd"

I can sympathise with the fight to legitimize gaming on your phone or tablet, I do it all the time and some of these games are absolutely amazing. But the pushback by some of those people is too much.

The 3DS people are just in the typical console wars fanboy stance. Competing system, I don't want it/can't afford it so it must suck, it's doomed, why does it even exist? They are more concerned about market share though. The iOS people have no worries about sales, the iphone/ipad sold more last Q than the Vita will sell in years. The iOS folks are fighting for mindshare, the 3DS people are fighting for marketshare.

And then there's probably a few people who are just trolling. Or a few people that may even be sony or even PSP fans that just don't like the way this system is headed.... and that's fine.

But you combine all these guys together and you get a shitstorm around the Vita, and while most of the time I think those of us excited about remain excited about it, there are times when you see post after post saying "ITS DOOOOOOOMMMEEEDDD" where you just want those people to shut the hell up. They won't, of course, but we can want them to.

Personally, as someone who owns all of the above i think Sony has an amazing piece of hardware, the money and the studios to pump out good games and the resolve to wait this thing out. Which is good because Im guessing the launch is gonna be slow. And the OMG VITA IS DOOMED is gonna pick up. But, over time, prices will come down, more people will try it, and I think it will do well. Is it gonna sell 75-100 million units? Nah, probably not. But can it be a successful platform? If sony is patient with it, and it doesn't get hacked like the PSP, yeah i think it can be - even in the west. Meanwhile the 3DS will do great and iOS will continue to be a positive force for indie gaming. We all win. Unfortunately we all don't seem to be on the same team.

as much as I want to wait for a price drop I feel like the pick up thread with all the beautiful vitas being shown may tempt me

Don't forget that the vita has built in screenshot taking. The pickup thread is gonna cause a lot of impulse purchases around here. Nothing so substantial that it will make it a great launch or anything, but for folks a little loose with money you may want to ban yourself from those threads.

Have any developers discussed what they are going to use the GPS for in the 3G version?

Having trouble deciding between the 3g launch bundle and a wifi unit.. No real interest in paying for 3g service.
