Super Robot Wars OG The Inspector 6-10
For all the shit Excellen gives Bullet, it's nice to see Kyosuke put her on the defensive, jerkass Axel Almer might be present, and fucking loved Gilliam calling his black Gespesnt's attacks into his watch. Damn shame Huckebeins weren't allowed to be used in the series though.

Episode 9 was fabulous. First Elzam then Masaki! Trombe firing up gets me psyched as it should. It's almost troublesome that with a show rife with fanservice seeing something like Cybuster appearing out of nowhere is what really grabs my attention.

Gespesnt kick time!

Also this was amusing:

Funimation's incompetence aside, my point still stands.

I will support the things I like so that they continue to be made. I'd be willing to import most of these releases on my own and this is much cheaper and considering I have a few Japanese and Asian BD releases I believe this to be preferable to the alternative.
Since most likely than not the alternative is no US release at all I don't find much of a problem paying a premium for something that wont receive much sales.

I loved Baccano, but the first episode of Durarara didn't really impress me. Would it be worth giving the show another shot?

I'm all for watching Durarara on its own merits without the need to draw comparisons to Baccano. You might see it in a different light if you (in general, not you personally) aren't constantly wondering when it's finally going to become Baccano in modern Japan.
It never does.

Durarara isn't as good as Baccano, though then again that also applies to 99% of all anime. Give it another shot!

So is there any explanation as to why more of the Durarara light novels haven't been adapted yet? I'm tired of seeing fanart of
Izaya's sisters
and not knowing anything about them.

Why hasn't more of Baccano been adapted? Or Spice and Wolf? Who knows.

I would say so - it develops further from there and the mid-show climax is really effective. You still might not like it, of course.

Moretsu Pirates 4

Some pretty well used music in this episode, the soundtrack is undeniably a legitimately good aspect to this show. I like hearing about the technology and such, so the electronic warfare is an enjoyable aspect for me. The show is picking up a bit now I think, it's a shame the cg is so ugly because I get the feeling that when they actually get to space fights its going to look bad.

in Fate Zero's case I dont like the series enough to spend 400+ on it.
If it were a series I liked more, I would MAYBE spend the cash. Like if this was the only way to get an official US licensed copy of Penguin Drum.

what do you mean by that?
At least somebody else aknowledges that it exists.

It's been years since I tried to watch it, but I remember a lot of weird monochrome freeze frames with some kind of static effect. It happened often enough to become annoying.

Legend of Galactic Heroes 1:
So, it begins. There's a lot to take in here, including a lot of characters with long names and a number of different factions. I'm sure I'll get a handle on everything soon, though. The central characters in the first episode are all set up pretty well, and I think there was some good drama between them and some nice glimpses into what society is like for these people. I'm intrigued to see where this goes.

It can be a bit overwhelming. I tried marathoning it and... I wouldn't recommend watching it that way.

I ask myself this every time a new anime adaptation is announced of something else. As far as I know, the only thing Brain's Base is even doing right now is Natsume S4, so it's not like they're super busy.

Of course the real question is probably how well the aforementioned shows sold, and I have no idea what that answer is.

It did have some odd pacing and effects. However the story is entertaining as hell with the main character messing with the local yakuza families and kicking their ass.
Its totally not the kind of anime people would expect me to enjoy, but I found it a lot of fun.

I'm pretty sure that Durarara and Spice & Wolf both had healthy dvd sales in Japan, I'm not sure about Baccano, though.

I think I'd probably enjoy it if I give it a second chance. My tolerance for odd art/directing/etc. is much higher than it was long ago when I first tried to watch it. I should really review my lengthy Dropped list on MAL, probably half of that stuff I could easily watch and enjoy now.

BACCANO! *3,389 (8, not including BOX) (Brains Base/FUNimation)

Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou) *8,729 (6, not including BOX) (IMAGIN)

Spice and Wolf II (Ookami to Koushiryou II) *1,533+*3,564=*5,097 (4) (Brains Base/FUNimation)

Durarara!! 18,310 (13) (Brain's Base/Aniplex of America)

Spice and Wolf 2 still sold better than some series that have received sequels (ZnT3 comes to mind IIRC) so who knows... maybe because the last novel was released and the amount of material left to adapt is considerable.

Don't really know why Aniplex is sitting on Durarara for, would be surprising not to see it take form in some manner this year. Unfortunately Baccano! is pretty much dead....

Has anyone coined the phrase "battered consumer syndrome"? So, basically you like having your wallet raped.
Give me your wallet. I'll treat her much better. Poor girl :(
I hereby start the ACWPS (Anime Consumer Wallet Protective Services).

Yeah, I never expected that or anything (I wasn't even really aware of the connection when I first saw it); I just felt that the first episode was kind of forgettable. It sounds like there's enough there for me to give it another shot and see what happens next, though.

Kannagi 10: I wish iDoLm@StEr had been like this; it's a great showcase of how much voice acting does make an animu. Incredible animation too.

I don't feel like a battered consumer. I enjoy everything I buy. I don't feel like I am being screwed at all.

How long have you been watching Kannagi?
I love the series. I just wish that Bandai had put more effort into the packaging and maybe added some extras. It's a really barebones release.

What I'm saying is that I'll buy what I like. I currently only have 1 Aniplex release which is Baccano. I have Honneamise from Bandai Visual, and the rest is either Funimation (Spice and Wolf 1+2, Mnemosyne, DLCL, Evangelion 1.11, All of FMP!, etc...), some other smaller US licensee (Nozomi's release of Utena), or imported from outside the US. (Summer Wars, Evangelion 2.22) No one is forcing you or me to buy anything, but if you want to send some kinda message fine. I'll continue to just get things I like so I can watch them again in the future.

I'm not saying it isn't a sad situation, but I'll pay if I feel it is worth it.

That's exactly how I feel. One thing I HATE is wanting to watch something and not having access to it because I never bought it when I had the chance. a lot of shows aren't available on streaming or crunchyroll or Nextflix, so I don't really have an option to watch them. That is why I still buy a ton of anime. When I have the time to enjoy it, its right there on my shelves.
My collection has grown to the point where I have something to watch no matter how I am feeling at the moment.

Out of curiosity, were the imports simply because you were so excited you couldn't wait for their domestic releases, or some other reason?

Mostly because it was taking so long for them to come out here. I watched 2.22 and Summer Wars at least a full year before they came out here. Bakemonogatari on the other hand will probably never hit here.

I didn't like DRRR because I really did not give a fuck about half the characters.
It kind of suffers from character overload. A lot of them overlap in disposition and demeanor, making it harder for any of them to particularly stand out. Izaya and Celty are pretty cool though, and at least the series seems to focus a lot of attention on them.
