We shouldn't kid ourselves either - this show is made for guys as much as Symphogear and Rinne no Lagrange - so I expect body pillow merchandise to appear sooner rather than later.
The way that they've basically made her the "father's daughter" makes me believe that she'll just have some innate skill that makes her awesome as a captain. Of course, they've gone to great pains to show that she's always been interested in piloting and whatnot, but I'm assuming the classic shounen tale of inherited excellence to apply here when it comes to how people interact with her. The fact that her father's crew is willing to go through all these measures just to keep an eye on her is rather telling.
I'd like to imagine the greater aim of the show will be her trying to figure out how to exist in her father's shadow. There's the classic tale of de-mythologizing the father figure, but I don't think this show will be all that grimdark.
I think that Mouretsu has been classier in the pander department than Symphogear or Lagrange thus far, though there were a couple of rather fanservicey shots of Marika during the "suit up" sequence in Episode 3. Virtually every anime regardless of tawdriness level produces goods for the body pillow segment of the fanbase at some point simply because it's profitable, but I think that Mouretsu can easily stay a mostly non-sexualized show even if the characters are designed to be appealing to males. It seems to be going for cute, not sexy.
The idea of "inherited excellence" is definitely beginning to crop up. I wouldn't be surprised if the
electronic attack and assault on the maid cafe
were fabricated by the crew of the Bentenmaru solely as a test or trial by fire for Marika. It would be more unbelievable for
multiple crewmembers to infiltrate the school system solely to observe Marika and then NOT take the opportunity to test her in an environment where they can personally evaluate her every action.
Also consider that in the show's universe, Letters of Marque are only transferable by bloodline, so if she's not being tested she's at least being taught.
Hah, I don't remember much about Bake, so I'm just going from fading memories and assumptions. I do remember a scene at some point where Hanekawa talks to Araragi about how it would appear to Senjou if he spent all his time around other women though, so it just seemed to me as if she was teasingly resolved to the current situation.
And hey, I suppose you can't really ignore the fact that she was sprawled out on his bed. Although I wonder how on the nose it was since his sister pointed out that trope before they went into his room.
I think that the conclusion of Tsubasa Cat forces us to reevaluate everything that Hanekawa says earlier in the series, although her basic character remains the same no matter what. I don't think that we'll ever see her actively
pursue Araragi
again, but we may yet see inklings of
lingering affection
. (I know that these spoiler tags probably aren't necessary; I'm just being extra-cautious.)
It kind of suffers from character overload. A lot of them overlap in disposition and demeanor, making it harder for any of them to particularly stand out. Izaya and Celty are pretty cool though, and at least the series seems to focus a lot of attention on them.
All I can think of when someone pukes is this video. Like, the perfection and hilarity of the situation just repeats overt and over in my head when I see it happen no matter the situation or medium, and I have no clue why,
Bodacious Space Pirates 4 - This is such a great, great show... really completely blowing away my expectations. I had no idea it would be this realistic or moderately high-concept.
On another note... seriously, club president, you're suggesting calling the military because
you've figured out your ship is being followed by people who are after Marika, and also know that she's the space pirate ship candidate? Bah, you're high school students, no military could possibly compare, right? But I guess we'll see next time... hopefully it goes well.
Yeah, this episode does a good job of building up the tension, so it's frustrating that it'll be a whole week until we see what happens next. Yes, this was indeed another great episode all around. As I said above, this episode is all about the crew getting prepared for the upcoming encounter, and Marika planning for what to do.
It was kind of funny that the whole club actually knows about her being the pirate captain candidate, and not only do they not care, but they encourage her to come up with their plans for them too, because of the skills she's shown off... heh, and just a bit earlier the adults were saying that the club would never believe it. How little they knew. (Oh, and I assume they know about that bug in his cabin there, right? Yes? )
It is somewhat convenient that one of them is so good at electronic warfare, but given the emphasis on electronic communications we've seen so far in the show, it does make sense that they'd have sought out someone skilled in such things. On the note of e-warfare, this focus certainly is unique in this show. It's not as flashy as ships shooting at eachother, but it's every bit as important, and it's something that very much would happen in real space combat and piracy. I mean, why shoot up your enemy ship when you could take it intact, without firing a shot? This particularly makes sense for pirates, whose goal is generally taking enemy cargo and/or ships, and not just blowing things up.
So yeah, I like the cast. Sure, it's got high schoolers are all you need-itis so far, as does almost all anime, but they're good enough that it's convincing, in this case.
We'll see if any of these girls join her pirate crew... could go either way, I would guess. They are learning about real spaceflight on a high-end ex-pirate ship and, soon, probably combat too, at any rate... we'll see how they like it I guess!
On the issue of the pacing, some people think that this show is too slow and dislike it. I guess I can see why some people would complain that the show is slow, but seriously, when it's done as great as it is here, I can't say much but to repeat my past statements that I think the pace and "realism" are nothing but good for the show. It's not a fast action show, yes, but it's quite good at what it is trying to do. The pace is just right, the "realistic" elements really add to the show, and the show is always interesting and is getting better overall -- the first episode was probably the weakest so far. So far the show's pretty optimistic too -- I love the tone. Hopefully they can mostly hold that tone once things start to get tougher. It's exactly things like that optimism, the real space flight feel of the show, the entertaining cast, the tension of waiting to see what will happen next, that make this show so unique and so captivating. Yes, it's anime, and the show reminds you of that sometimes, but it's GOOD anime.
Overall, this was just fantastic. I'm loving this show.
Darn, should made it an hour long episode, having to wait seven more days to see the strategy come to fruition is gonna be hard. Otherwise fun episode
shocked that the president is loaded and already knew Marika is a captain candidate, and Lynn is some super hacker. Animations for computer systems are nice and the high powerscanner too
This is a glacially slow and extraordinarily boring show. I thought that the latter half of episode two with its interminable
sitting in chairs vocalizing what's happening on a computer screen
was torture enough, but we've gotten two more episodes comprised primarily of this.
My main complaint thus far has been that the whole pirate thing is taking far too long to get going, but that might not even matter anymore. If these episodes are supposed to give us a taste of
Marika's future pirate crew
, there's a good chance that this
electronic warfare
shit is going to carry over to the Bentenmaru as well. After all, it's much cheaper to animate talking heads than spaceships, so it's the perfect thing to pad out space battles.
I was expecting the ratio of comedy to srs space stuff in Mouretsu Priates to be skewed much further toward comedy than it actually has been, which is unfortunate because the more lighthearted first episode shined more than any episode hence. The show's forte is obviously not action, and I fear that Mouretsu Pirates' ineptitude in this area is only going to snowball once actual space battles in all their ugly CG horror are introduced alongside the kinds of "warfare" we've seen thus far. I blame everything on the removal of "Miniskirt" from the title.
We all were expecting that ratio to be quite different from how it is in the final show so far, but the results have been so much better than I could have anticipated... not that I necessarily dislike comic sci-fi shows, I don't, but I at least think that this approach was great.
Oh, and yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of these Yacht Club girls don't end up on her crew, somehow... we'll see though, who knows. It is worth saying though, she isn't a pirate yet, but she IS on an ex-pirate ship well equipped with the best technology (something the characters have commented on repeatedly; I would consider a high school yacht club having THIS ship being one of those "this is anime" elements of the show, but whatever, it makes the show more interesting, so I won't complain much. ), so she's not entirely separated from piracy. She isn't technically a pirate yet, but she is learning how to lead and make plans, and is on a high-tech pirate ship.
Oh, and I think the
electronic warfare
is more about the show trying a more realistic approach than it is about padding, or budget, or any of that stuff. I mean,
why shoot up your enemy ship when you could take it intact, without firing a shot? This particularly makes sense for pirates, whose goal is generally taking enemy cargo and/or ships, and not just blowing things up...

As I was watching the puking video, one of my cats puked up a hairball at almost the exact moment that the guy in the video barfed. Life is funny sometimes.
Prima was the first English Vocaloid to be included in the Lipsync model series. The LipSync model portrayed Prima as an extremely pale girl wearing a dark red dress and a white flower in her short, wavy, black hair. Due to its popularity this particular look has become her common but unofficial appearance, this despite her rather low toned voice.
When people tried to illegally download vocaloids, such as Miku Hatsune and Kagamine Rin/Len, they had to download Prima to get the program in English. However the illegal downloads of Prima didn’t have proper confirmation codes, causing not only Prima to stop working but other Vocaloid programs as well. If one could not keep Prima using correct codes the other Vocaloids would in effect become unable to be used at all.
Some fans say that the Prima’s character item is wine, but because of her yandere nature (due to the way her illegal copies prevented other vocaloids from working) you’ll more likely see fanart of her holding a weapon rather than an alcoholic beverage.
I could see that. He's fairly one-dimensional as a character and never steps outside the initial bounds set around him. I still kind of like his impish nature though.
Nisemonogatari 04
Pretty styling bathroom.
Shinoubi is a far more interesting sparring partner for Araragi than I would have imagined. Still, the Karen Bee arc is going super slow, and the issue at hand often feels obfuscated or ignored. When an entire episode winds up revolving around the uneventful bedroom scene and the prolonged bathroom scene it kind of feels like more loose ends are being introduced. Maybe my mixed feelings for this episode have more to do with my distaste for Hanekawa.
Durarararara was extremely disappointing to me. It has some great characters
mostly just Celty, really
but they all get drowned out by the dearth of awful shitty characters that plague the rest of the show who, for some godforsaken reason, get brought more and more into the foreground as the show progresses which all but eroded every ounce of good will it had garnered from me at first.
Just have a quick question for Anime GAF out of curiosity: Does Japanese TV show reruns at all? I ask because I just saw that Dragon Ball 1st season is on TV over here and wondered whether you would be able to catch it on TV in Japan.
My "key hate" is just a quick moniker for the fact that I really don't like how they write their stories at all, that's it. They have their fans, if they like that sort of thing, whatever.
Their stories and writing are exactly what is best about them, though... basically, sure, people are going to have different tastes, but the way Key haters say that what Key does best -- their stories -- is somehow awful is something that frustrates me. I'd say a better way to put it is that they are quite good writers who write far above average anime series, but you people just dislike their style.
However, for Angel beats specifically, I think it's just straight up bad, KEY associations notwithstanding. I'm not sure how much of it is Maeda's fault and how much is PA Works, but everyone dropped the ball there.
That's just your opinion. I of course think Angel Beats is one of their best animated works, and one of the best animes of its year. Outstanding series.
Sure, but that isn't my point, that it's extremely unpopular in animegaf is. I've said it plenty of times before, but I really do think that part of why the hate is so strong is because Key is so popular elsewhere that the backlash among the people who do dislike their stuff has been strengthened by how popular their works are... I do sort of wish more people than me would defend them more often, but I imagine that most people don't like circular arguments like these.
2) You're trying to quash an opinion that isn't yours
dissent
(intransitive) To disagree; to withhold assent. Construed with from (or, formerly, to).
(intransitive) To differ from, especially in opinion, beliefs, etc.
What? That's ridiculous and not true. The only thing even vaguely related to that that I maybe wonder about is something related to something I've seen before, that once some people start bashing people others pile on even if originally they had different feelings... the case of public opinion turning against Donkey Kong 64, where initially everyone loved it until a few weeks later people mostly decided that the game was actually awful, is a pretty good case of that for instance (I thought DK64 is an very good game, to be clear). I don't know for sure if that is the case here or if it's just that the Key haters here are far more vocal about it than the people who like their work. It could be that.
I just the characters had more depth, the dialogue wasn't like listening to someone read me a school textbook and actually had some purpose
(yes, I have a feeling electronic warfare will be important after stressing it for 3 entire episodes)
, and the plotholes weren't so apparent. I honestly feel that they could've summed up the content of episodes 2 and 3 in about 5-10 minutes with all the repetition of literally the same thing over and over again. The show has the word pirates in it and features a girl in a pirate costume in the opening and ending. I hardly think that every convenient situation just happens to
accidentally be having everyone slowly force her to be captain-like on purpose.
It also doesn't help that they just make Marika out to be
some idiot and then she just does advanced things that nobody else can out of nowhere. Her character doesn't have any real growth or rhyme or reason for her sudden competency or actions, especially given her current position and character depth portrayed so far. I really hope they don't just go, well, it's in her blood so uh, she's a natural born pirate. For a main character, she just feels so shallow right now.
Also, hopefully next week Goku will finally throw the spirit bomb.
Ah, to hell with it, something to occupy anyone still around right now.
See if you can identify the ten different shows/styles imitated with these Tiger & Bunny characters.
Started on Amagami SS +
Its really strange but I cant choose the girl I like best, normally I just side with the childhood friend but they're all pretty good characters. also weird that I feel bad for the nonchosen girls in each chapter.
Glad I started this on a whim, I like how most characters actually have endings.

Yes. There are UHF stations who have anime timeslots and sometimes there aren't any new shows for it so they show old stuff. For example, after HanaIro ended, the show to take its timeslot was Nanoha A's.
For Dragonball specifically though, I'm not sure. It might be a co-production with Fuji which in that case, eliminates it from being show anywhere but Fuji. They might show it during dead times or on their BS channel though.

Woooooooooow I was thinking of a way to sum it up, but this is like the perfect comparison and Maaya is doing an outstanding job. I'm in love already! Having realized this, my appreciation for said scene has gone up massively.
BONES must be having a hard time getting new shows off the ground. First Level5 announces that they're doing the animation for Kaihou Shoujo, and now Level5 announces that they're doing the animation for Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton. Boo.

People consider this show good? I'm only two episodes through but its hardly anything spectacular. Natsume and Nisemonogatari are the cream of the crop, but I'm also enjoying Ano Natsu, Another and Daily Lives of High School Boys. Everything else is meh.
The anime is ok. I still like it.
I realize some of the problems with it that I wasn't thinking about when I watched it, but it doesn't ruin it for me.
But then again I really like Saber so that pretty much makes up for it.
