This show is such a guilty pleasure of mine. The premise in itself is just absurd and has led me to the realization of just how perfect these anime universes are capable of being (yes, I know I'm LTTP on that one). None of these characters possess any real physical flaw (hey, let's be totally frightened of the blonde hair guy but when there's a girl with green hair sitting right next to him, there's no problem at all). Rather, it's the eccentric personalities of the cast that prevent any of them from getting friends. After giving Princess Jellyfish 1 a watch a few weeks back, it was a bit hard to suspend my disbelief at times. The fanservice is tasteless but humorous given the genre.
And of course it serves my dumbass right for expecting any sense of closure from this harem.

Also, Yozora can suck it. Sena all day, everyday.

A good, fun show. I await the BD release from Funimation and I suspect the limited edition will be filled with artwork fans can only expect it to have.

MY EYEEEZ, ZEE YURI GOGGLEZ, ZEY DO NUZZING!

There's actually two separate stories going on in this episode.

The first story is about Madoka, Lan, and Mugi. Mugi clearly knows a lot more about what is going on than she lets on, and she has some interesting gear like those awesome goggles that lets her see Memoria tattoos. I love how Madoka's and Mugi's tattoos are in super-fanservice regions of their bodies, incidentally. She also knows who Lan actually is, and she already knows Madoka's name and a fair amount about her. It's not clear how she got to Earth right now but she didn't appear to have come with Lan's group, however she was able to get inside the floating base so whoever she really is, she knows what she's doing. She is able to get close to Madoka right away, thus activating Lan's Yuri Jealousy Mode.

The second story, which I will call the "real" story since it is not connected to the three pilots at the moment, concerns What Is Actually Going On. It's getting increasingly obvious that things are absolutely not as they appear. The arrival of Kiss, who apparently attacked and crippled the ship that Kirius, Array, and Izo arrived on, signals the beginning of the Real Story. Meanwhile Madoka's Pantsu-Off cousin and her hapless student are busy explaining stuff about where the mechas were found and I'm sure this will be relevant later.

The city of Kamogawa was involved in the planning of this project and helped with the funding. Now, I'm willing to bet they were aware of what happened to Shirakawa when that town was involuntarily used as the basis for the fictional Himanizawa in Higurashi. I'm under the impression that otaku tourism is like the worst kind of tourism ever, but Kamogawa really wants those otaku tourist yens. So here we are, I guess. It's apparently a beach resort city, and I don't know that otakus like the sun to begin with, but I wish them luck with their endeavor. Gotta get DAT YENS.

I quite agree. :)

I also wanted to ask, what's the general verdict on Another so far, for those who've been keeping up with it?

Based on the first three episodes it is enjoyable. It feels like a different unique type of anime. I thought it had limited appeal at first but episode two and three really brought things together and make it one I look forward to each week.

Only cons is the opening (thought the ending theme and animation is wonderful), and awkward background music, and my inability to not see Chrome Dokuro.

Familiar of Zero F 4:
Wacky harem hijinx ahoy. I like how Louise and Saito seem to have completely forgotten that they're already married. This was definitely a complete change of pace from the previous episodes.

You should watch everything in the top 10, yes everything. Madoka was great and well deserving of its rightful title.

Ah, so there was a recount and Ano Hana fell out of the Top 10?

Suite Precure 48 (end):

cpBhm.jpg

A generically-satisfying conclusion, but I can't complain. It's hard to say anything about Suite without comparing it to Heartcatch because Heartcatch was my introduction to the franchise and I absolutely adored it in every way. Suite was a weaker show and especially had a weaker endgame, but it was still a pleasant watch and served as my weekly dose of optimism, rainbows, and ass-kicking. Some random thoughts (criticisms, I guess) about Suite:

- Cure Beat and Cure Muse were sadly mishandled. Siren's internal conflict over whether she had the right to be a Cure after spreading so much misery was short-lived, and she was virtually nonexistent outside of the fight of the week, never developing any personality traits or hobbies outside of the usual music and singing. She was much more interesting as a villain. Ako was introduced too late to have much characterization at all, and while she had personality in spades the show was only ever able to devote a couple of episodes to her because they waited until around episode 35 for the reveal.

- Negatones were less interesting monsters of the week than Desertrians. Part of the appeal of Heartcatch was that it dealt with anger, sadness, misunderstanding, and other afflictions of the heart in a fairly serious way. Most of the characters of the week whose Heart Flowers wilted were experiencing very relatable problems and the Cures had to actually resolve those problems to some extent in order to defeat a Desertrian. Negatone was never anything more than musical note + random object = herp derp monster, and the Cures pretty much just had to kick the shit out of them.

- The villains gave up on the "divide Hibiki and Kanade by exploiting their differences" plot halfway through the show. I liked the premise of two girls who didn't get along with each other having to cooperate as Precure in order to survive and it seemed to work from week to week, but it eventually fizzled out and the villains just resorted to powering up in an attempt to defeat the Cures through brute force. I would have liked to have seen Hibiki and Kanade divided on increasingly fundamental differences in their values and be forced to resolve them as the show went on, but that's obviously too much to ask for an all-ages series.

- It was cool when I found out that Hummy was voiced by Tsukino Usagi's seiyuu. It freaked me out when I heard Usagi use a cat voice in an episode of the first season of Sailor Moon and it was like hearing Hummy 20 years before Suite.

- Hibiki and Kanade's Precure forms have the best design of any Precure series, and Let's Play! Precure Modulation is the best transformation theme in anything EVER.

Well, where one Precure series ends, another springs up to replace it so we begin anew with Smile Precure next week. As I'm probably the only member of PrecureGAF, I promise not to junk the thread up with weekly impressions, hah.

Well, I've got a ton of shows on my backlog (not to mention a bunch of games as well) and the show seemed kinda interesting even if I'm not really sure what it's about. I'd probably get around to checking it out eventually but I'm mostly curious to know what people here think so far since I haven't really heard much from it. :)

It seems like it could be one of those overlooked shows for some reason.

I've already posted a fuckton of stuff about Another in this thread, and a fair number of other Animu-Gaffers are watching it too. I can't imagine how you really haven't heard much from it. :)

There's only 3 episodes aired so far, so if you don't like it you haven't lost a lot of time. But if you liked Higurashi and Umineko, you really should be watching this.

I'm normally not the biggest fan of clumsy girls but this is so :cajun:

And Another is a great anime. It's just no horror anime but more a mystery-thriller.

The laughs aren't played up as much as they should be in light of the ridiculousness in some of said plot developments.

Rinne no Lagrange 04

A tension-release episode. After the non-stop nature of the previous three episodes, we finally get a little more backstory, and seemingly the rest of the cast for this half of the show finally joins the fray. I liked Muginami's introduction, Lan was adorable, and even though we were given no MARU!, we were indeed given two wans this episode.

Lan being what she was in this episode was adorable, they seemed to stomp a few more tropes, the restaurant scene was fun, Muginami's introduction was quick, but they seem to be establishing the characters and universe as the show/story progresses instead of forcing it to be stated for entire episodes before any action or real character interaction can happen, which I like because there's always forward momentum to the show.

Next episode seems to already be jumping into the next main arc of things which makes me happy. At this current rate, the first half will probably have 3 major arcs within it, which is a lot of content in such a short amount of time. I'm curious to see how they pace and finish this half, and how things will be as we wait for the second half to air in July. I think some of the character things still need a little more explanation, but it's happening at such a smooth rate while keeping me entertained that I can't really complain.

why are you a bad guy now? ;_;

~boring declaration of your boredom~ Boring Space Not-Pirates 4:

I'm not sure if I'm being trolled or not yet if Marika tries to make running a wide-range scan look like the most exciting thing which has ever happened in space travel. I guess they are going with the same use of scanning that occurs in submarine warfare in this show. When on a submarine, you can listen all you want and nobody will pay any attention to you. But if you use an acoustic wave to lock another submarine's exact position exactly ("ping") then what you are doing is determining a firing solution. Therefore, if you ping another sub, you are declaring your intent to engage in hostilities, in other words you're going to torpedo the motherfucker until his wreck lies on the bottom of the ocean. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense in the context of space but whatever.

This show has an amazing and utterly perfect soundtrack which is completely out of place from the boring events going on. And yes, I do like the OP and ED, I guess watching and playing THE IDOLM@STER has trained me to enjoy idol singing. I'm sure this rigorous training will come in useful in the future.

If there isn't a really huge awesome space battle next episode where the Odette II fires it's bodacious beam weapons and blows holes in another ship and people are ejected into space and flash-freeze and explode messily, I'm probably going to drop this show. Marika is cute and all but this is inarguably the most boring thing I've ever seen which is supposed to be about space pirates. I mean, how can you make bodacious space piracy THIS FUCKING GODDAMNED BORING?

The Bodacious Space Pirates soundtrack is too good for the series, I agree. I think I'm gonna have to listen to that OP over and over soon. Too bad Satelight has been letting me down so far.

I take it they give up around the same time that cat lady transforms into a real girl and joins the team? I only watched that episode and the first few, but I suppose it would make sense that they'd need the change the dynamic after they get a new member
.

Why wasn't this series 52 episodes though?

Did anyone answer this?

Its Gitah and Muttan. (I forgot if Yui pronounced Mustang differently to give it a nickname feel though)

The piano and drum set had no name.

For some reason I thought the piano had a name! Poor Moogi.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: My Conquest is the Sea of Stars

LoGH at its finest. Thrilling strategic conflict between clever minds, some really nice mechanical animation, meditations on the nature of war, and classical music. The long battle sequence set to Ravel's Bolero was impressive.

Well, regardless of how many people became Cures over the course of the show, the tactic of attempting to divide friends based on their differences could have worked against any combination of characters, not just Hibiki and Kanade. For a few episodes after Siren's (indeed, she was the cat-turned human) conversion, the villains attempted to fill her with doubt that she would ever truly be accepted by Hibiki and Kanade (and consequently she performed poorly in battle during this time), but after that the whole concept of "harmonizing" or "cooperating based on what we have in common" vanished and everyone just got along perfectly. With enough creativity they could have kept it going for the remainder of the show instead of resorting to slugfests.

The show was shorter presumably because ratings have been weaker than normal for this series, so they took the usual Obon/Golden Week/etc. breaks to save budget.

The teacher is a hot contender for thw waifu thing. She looks like a older version of Madoka.

but I don't play the game.

Yeah, I took notice of her this episode. Very feisty, which is a positive waifu quality in my book.

Milky Holmes S2 ep.3

This episode was so good. Best Milky Holmes ever imo, outside of maybe the final ep of season 1. It had a musical number about sea cucumbers, octopus wrestling, some nice animation(although this series is always pretty well animated), hilarious character art, and was just damn funny. Quality anime right here folks.

Nah, it's all actually all up to chance. A new Precure will ALWAYS begin the first week of February; the show will have an episode less for every Sunday that ends up with a holiday of the kind that takes over TV Asahi's morning slot, like Mother's Day or Christmas.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 01

This opening sequence feels like SHAFT, but I'm trying to figure out why. Would "starkly shaded CGI structures in wide shots" cover it, you think?

Kyubey's mouth doesn't move when it talks. That's just creepy.

Oof, and there's that Meguca. It's standard to draw objects and characters in less detail when the camera's pulled out a ways...but this show's idea of "pulled out a ways" is a bit too close, I think.

Homura's intense.

Sayaka's funny, I like her.

...did the characters drop acid without me noticing? Did I?

That's quite a barrage.

Pretty cute overall, but kinda fucked up in places, too.

I never expected to see someone say "Shit, they're almost in love! Stop them!" in any form of fiction. Kudos.

Seriously, if Sora turns out to be the reincarnation of Apollo, I will flip the fuck out. Such a downgrade.

Anyway, rank the girls time? I think it is!

Zero no Tsukaima F 04

This is everything that seasons two and three should've been. More harem, more hijinks, more Sato being harem lord, more Momorency getting jelly, more Guiche, Melon-chan, bed-sharing, tsundere'an, the best character: Siesta, and good fun.

It's everything i've wanted from a ZnT sequel. I just want more of the Queen being all Season 3 up in here now.

Ah, I see, so the calendar just happened to fall that way this year. Now I'll know exactly what's going on when Smile skips a week.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 11

Completely believable.
But, hey, an actual cliffhanger. I do wonder if they'll resolve it in the last episode but I kinda can already guess what'll happen seeing as there like like 2 more seasons of this to go.

Guilty Crown 14

In this episode
some members of Shu's harem hold Tsugumi down while he penetrates her just to see what happens, the government is evil, Inori kills some fools and no one seems to give a shit, Daryl is now a good guy and Shu gets an entire school's worth of harem members
.

A very productive day at school, all in all.

Episode was utterly hilarious. Never would I have thought a donut could be used so figuratively. Curious if we will ever see all team combos fight it out, or just focus on the main one. Amata floating never gets old.

I must praise the music, background ost and opening and ending.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica 02

Any wish, really? Just have one of you wish for a vast fortune, split it, then have the other wish for all the Witches to vanish forever. (If you have to kill a Witch first then it's a bit trickier...but still only two battles to be set for life.)

Madoka's mom is kind of awesome.

Uh, Mami, are you sure bringing a pair of powerless civilians to watch you fight deadly monsters is such a good idea?

Madoka's school is pretty swanky.

Sayaka's so proactive; why couldn't she be the main character?

German text! I wish I had studied it more. Apparently it's from Faust.

The fight was pretty cool, if a bit hard to follow at times.

Space Runaway Ideon 24:
This was one of the more consistent episodes of the series. While nothing mind blowing happened, the conflict between the Solo Ship characters and the Kyaral residents were convincing and I liked the relationship between Cosmo and Kitty. You also had Bes being pretty resourceful in this episode, and Karala's knowledge being put to good use. I'm interested to see how things will be handled with this faction of the Buff Clan.

awww yeah, bring on that faux yuri love triangle! *equips yuri goggles*

I really hope that this doesn't go all grimdark on us as I'm really enjoying the light-hearted tone of the show. Wan!

Is there any big difference between the two? I mean besides filling up rooms and background stuff.
I think there are some new ED songs or something.
They also fix some of the derpier faces, I think.

Sounds like Shaft being Shaft.
