2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

I tried both 0x00000145 and 0x080100c5. Neither seemed to work :(.

Which AA method are you trying to force?
Did you make sure the bits are written in the Dx9 field? Also make sure that the AA setting is set to Override application setting ( I couldn't tell you how many times I've forgotten this myself ).

Speaking of hi-res PCness: Corky, did you end up purchasing the Dell 27"? I remember we briefly discussed it last year, but at the time you were hesitant to pull the trigger due to the possibility of perceiving ghosting and/or input lag.

Edit: I apologise for the combo breaker, haha.

I bought it :), though in the end I had to sacrifice Street fighter since it really is unplayable for me but it's an extreme case. Other than that I love the monitor to death, I won't go back to anything with a) lower res and b) worse colors - which means I'm probably sticking with this for a long time.

Though I've been sitting and awaiting the next line-up of nvidia cards because I feel my 560 ti's are having it rough.

Good to hear. :) I still plan on buying one... eventually. Ideally around the time nvidia's next generation of cards hit.

Even if you're like me, someone who has no use of the professional aspect of the monitor, I'd still say it's not a bad investment. I mean from the looks of it these monitors don't seem to significantly drop in price or value judging by the used prices, at least not the same way other pc components plummet in price.

For the most part I just want to replace my Dell 22" as it's quite literally falling apart (much like the PC it's connected to, which I've also been meaning to upgrade), but the additional resolution will come in handy during the later stages of my Uni course. The base price of the monitor is $799 here in Australia, but I can receive a 15% discount, which knocks it down to a more tantalising $679.

Suicide mission wrapped up. Now to do Shadow Broker and Arrival, then call it a day. I've taken just over 7GB worth of screenshots so far. There's...a lot.

Steam version works fine with the texture mods for me, and it's pretty simple. No cracks needed or anything like that. There's a guide to doing it on the BSN thread.

ooh $679, that's almost 350 less than what I paid :'(

What would people think of a rule that any screenshots should be prefaced with the settings/mods you used to achieve those screenshots? Would be so much easier for us who want to replicate them, especially for Crysis 2!

Any way to get those Mass Effect textures to work without TextMod (which has problems with the Steam version)? Right now I'm concerned about ME1.

Edit: apparently someone figured out you can fix Garrus' face just by editing three lines in an ini file.

whats the prob with Street fighter? does the screen lag need a scheduler for smooth input?? I want a larger IPS panel myself heard dell and HP are safe buys.

I agree, which is why this wonderful maldohd mod I'm using has options for a) Reducing overall tessellation and more importantly b) giving you the option to fully disable the ungodly superfluous water tessellation.

I'm pretty sure that those cracks in asphalt are from POM, but bigger lack of asphalt is thanks to tessellation. Crysis 2 is highly overtessallated.

I thought the water tesselation was the only part of the DX11 patch that looked good :x

I dare say this opinion is actually incorrect. There is a post on crymod from one of the devs discussing this. The over-tesselation is only apparent in the wireframe mode where there is no culling or distance parameters. Hence, why there is tesselated water displayed and an insane amount of triangles on flat objects. Things which do not happen in non-wire frame mode.

I can find the post if you guys like. Crysis 2 is actually very efficiently tesselated. One candiscover this by turning on and off tesselation and seeing the performance difference.

Sorry for the slow response. I've been at work all day and only recently got home to try playing with it some more.

The bits are in the DX9 field, and AA setting is set to override. I've tried MSAA, CSAA, and super sampling and none seem to be doing anything. I have the Steam version, but I don't see why that should change anything.

"There is currently a bug on the PC version of Mass Effect where even on Ultra-High detail, Garrus' face is remarkably low textured. This is known by the developers of the game, who have said that a patch is not currently in the works and most likely never will be, since due to the way the game is made, it would require a multi-gigabyte patch to fix."

LOL

That thread is over a year old, but the OP mentions an increase in load times to up to 5 minutes with the optimized pack and 10-15 minutes with the ultra pack. Out of curiosity, has anyone noticed a dramatic increase in load times like this?

All the texture packs I've seen for Mass Effect so far have been for ME2, but if I use them I'd rather focus on ME1.

ME2 looks bearable for me, but getting back into ME1, that game looks goddamn ancient.

The difference is 4096x4096 (non-optimized) vs. 2048x2048 (optimized). The difference is not *that* noticeable in the game. The loading times themselves are much better with the non-optimized one: from around 10-12 minutes to probably 4-6 minutes on my rig.

There are not a lot of texture packs for ME1 - it's mostly weird-looking armour. The only decent ones are the Garrus face fix and Liara's LOTSB texture. But at least ME1 has *some* high-res armour textures straight out out of the box, while ME2 is much more of a console port (hence the JeanLuc texture packs).

It turns out that AA isn't working for ANY of my games when I force it through the nVidia control panel. If the game itself supports AA it works fine, but otherwise I can't get AA to work at all. I tried uninstalling and re-installing my drivers as well as updating nVidia inspector, but neither one helped any. I'm beginning to get very frustrated...

You mean inefficiently tessellated, right? Because there are two or three levels that, once I spawn in, the game's running at around 8fps with RadeonPro set to "application controls the tessellation." (The one with the Statue of Liberty's arm and head in it, for example.) The rest of the game I get 30+fps on DX11 Ultra.

You should check out this thread and read it thoroughly, mores specifically the responses of crytek employees.

The performance difference is huge. Indicates it's poorly tesselated considering how much of the environment isn't affected, and the bugginess in a lot of places:

The only game I've seen that has an all round good implementation of tesselation is Deus EX: HR.

See I've spent the last month or so playing a metric shit ton of SWTOR, I could have flooded this thread full of screenshots of that shit but I didn't. Why? Because it looks like utter dogshit. Just. Like. WoW.

I think it still looks good. But my standards can be low sometimes.

Looking at those WoW screens the really remarkable thing is how little you notice after a while. I played for nearly 6 years on and off, and I remember it looking significantly better than it actually does, and I think that was even before the new lighting engine and updated shaders.

So if you're ever worried your standards have become too high, play WoW for a while to dial them way on back.

Aww, don't be upset.

I liked your WOW shots. As long as you're following the thread rules, any game is welcome, and personally I love to see shots from games that aren't frequently posted in this thread, especially "older" games. I'm pretty sure that we're all tired of Skyrim at this point, even though some of the new mods look great. The more variety, the better.
