NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

Where is the cheapest place for me to get one of those Qanba dual system sticks (america)? I'm not too familiar with arcade sticks, other than that I have a SSF4 TE and I like everything about it, except I'd maybe prefer a stick that had .. I don't know how to explain it, instead of having a resting place for the stick in the 4 corners, I'd also like it to rest at up down left and right as well.

You want to have a tactile response defining each direction? Sounds like the closest thing will be an octagonal gate, but, I'm not sure how pronounced the feedback will be, since the gate is designed to ease movement from one direction to the next, not hinder it.

Arcade Shock has a bunch. Some are preorders for the next few weeks and some are in stock and funky colors.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And don't forget about my contest running for the next two-odd weeks:

Ok guys and gals, here is the competition:

Prize:

One Street Fighter X Tekken V.S. stick for either 360 or PS3, your choice. Whenever it ships.

VS.jpg

OR

Namco Store Black PS3 TE stick (if it is still available after 15 February, 2012; but I'll probably order one in the coming week if it looks like we are getting entries...so if the winner opts for it they can take it, otherwise it will just go into my collection)

namco.jpg

---> Choice of stick is negotiable, say, if you wanted a qanba or eightarc or even the cheaper Fightstick Pro Black version instead but I'd rather keep it Mad Catz since MarkMan started this thread. Just try to keep it $200-ish.

Who can enter?

Any GAF member from any country. I currently live in the middle east but depending on the winner's location it will either ship directly from the US manufacturer/US amazon/US Club Namco Store or I'll have the stick sent to my CA address then have it forwarded to your address...in other words, it might take a few extra days to arrive if you live outside the US.

How to enter:

First, you will need some type of arcade stick and some type of camera/phone camera. Be creative and photograph the stick (or sticks) in some type of creative location, juxtaposition, etc. Try to surprise. Photography skills are not really important, creativity is! Feel free to manipulate the image however you feel...JUST DON'T USE PHOTOSHOP TO BREAK CONTIGUOUS SPACE...stick(s) must be in a physical environment. Take the stick apart, use a candy cab...anything you want so long as a stick is in the photo. Indoors, outdoors, etc.

PM me your photo by the end of February 15, 2012 and I'll collect them all, resize them if I can figure it out, and then show them in this thread, unmarked from who they came from. Not sure how we will pick the winner, maybe collectively, maybe MarkMan will want to pick the best one...I'll let you know around the 15th through the 20th when I post all the entrants.

One entry per username!

(My job takes me away from the internets for a week or two at a time but I'll be back by the 15th. If I'm not gone, I'll PM you back that I got your entry but, rest-assured, if I don't PM you back within that day I'm probably gone, and up some mountain with no communication and I'll PM you once I get back.)

Hopefully we get a number of entries, or I'll by sad ;-( You've got three weeks!

Good luck folks! And perhaps quote for the new page so we can get as many entries as possible, especially if I'm not here to do so myself.

I don't care much about tactile response while it's moving, I just feel uncomfortable when I'm holding down and it feels like I could slide to the left or right easily. When I'm holding downback, you can definitely feel like it's "locked" in and you need a defined movement to get it out of the corner.

I think this is exactly what I want though. I'd have to install this myself, then?

Yes, but there really isn't much to it. The gates are always exposed and just held in with plastic clips, so all you need to do is open up the case to get access.

Thanks for the help guys, got a new stick on the way as well as one of those octagonal gates.

Will be nice to be able to play games with friends on both systems finally.

That is a nice, nice one. Been going back and forth the last few days about ordering it myself...prettier than the one with yellow. Still waiting for them to put up images of their forthcoming Seimitsu stick.

Qanba's doing a seimtisu stick? Interest piqued.

The mic jack on my TE stick isnt working properly. I have to push up from the bottom of plug going to my headset for it to establish a connection. Is there any way to fix this?? I'm using a turtle beach headset if that helps answer my question.

So i have the chance to get a Sanwa Q4 Arcade Stick Profesional. Is it good?

I wanted a Madcatz SFIV TE but MarkMan hates brown people and dont send sticks to Argentina! ;-)
<3 Markman <3

And besides that? So between MadCatz SFIV TE and this one which one is better?

The Quanba line is very competent, much like the Madcatz products. All are assembled with Sanwa parts, with the added benefit of dual console compatibility out of the box. The biggest difference between the two is Quanba's cases are made with wood and plexiglass instead of plastic and laminated metal.

I don't think anyone will tell you which one in particular you should get.

A deciding factor might if you need straight out of the box dual-console functionality. Then go Qanba.

If you want the piece of mind of a product that's been around for a while and tested profusely, go with the madcatz.

If you're considering madcatz TEs, I would say you also need to consider HRAPs.

It's really up to you to think about your own personal preferences (size, weight, color, button/stick layout, will you mod it, will you be carrying it around a lot, etc.).

So i have the change to get a Sanwa Q4 Arcade Stick Profesional. Is it good?

They dont send sticks to Puerto Rico and we are part of the US :(

Anyways i might have screwed up my TE stick. I tried the spring mod and now i get double inputs and stuff. Ugh :(

Does anybody know if the spring in the SF4 SE stick works with the TE stick as well?

This may be the wrong place to ask this, but does anyone remember some promo art that came out for Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom that had Speed Racer drawn by the artist that does Capcom's current art? I KNOW I've seen it before, but I'm having a helluva time finding any of it! I would really like to use it on a custom stick...

So, what is the best stick anyone here has ever played on?

My vote goes for the very expensive B15 Design stick.

http://www.b15sdmdesigns.com

They feeel so so so solid it is simply amazing to play on.

Markman, when is Sanwa going to release the low noise parts? Can you please post some impressions?

What's the easiest dual mod solution for a TE? I'm horrible at soldering, and I want to do as little wiring as possible. I have a Round 1 TE & a Soul Edition, and I'd like to mod both for PS3 & 360. I thought I remember there being a mod where you just lined up some pins and piggybacked the mod & the normal board. Does this exist?

Yep, that's a Teasy Strike Mod I believe, http://www.phreakmods.com/products/teasy-strike What "Home Console" is your TE? Teasy only looks to work with the 360 version, since it adds PS3.

You've been in the presence of a B15SDM custom? I AM SUPER JELLLY. :<

Yup, honestly. I thought they were nice looking sticks, but feeling just how solid and dense they are in person was out of this world. I have a ton of sticks and this one hands down is the best I've ever had the pleasure to use.

What do you guys use for a stick stand?

Is there the ideal solution out there, my lap sucks and a coffee table is too low from couch height.

Anyone?

I found that my lap is perfect if I'm sitting in a sturdy chair. Otherwise the lap is horrible if you're seated in a couch. I think this has to do with the fact that most couches are soft, and you kind of sink into the cushions a bit resulting in an uneven lap surface. On a chair your legs are more or less parallel to the ground, and sturdy enough to place the stick without it moving about too much. At least this seems to be how it works with me.

thinking TV dinner tray maybe?

don't know if its sturdy enough though...

I've heard very good things about the Qanba, which is why I've been strongly considering getting one for so long. The weird placement of the start button might be an issue if you play with an eight button scheme but I can't see myself ever pressing it. In terms of build quality I've been told it's just as good as the TEs, plus it has dual console support without having to mod.

Like atomic moth said, the Qanba vs the TE basically seems like a matter of preference. I haven't heard any stories of Qanbas breaking easily.

I met B15 in London last year :D

B15 is my stick custom hero. I really hope to be able to afford one of his someday. I'll have to really work though to come up with something worth his time though because he's already done my dream stick.

MANLY PICTURE TIME!

I actually just started talking to Sam of B15 last week about doing a special custom stick for me. I've got an amazing, amazing idea for one.

That is awesome! Kudos sir. (if that is yours, even if not that's still awesome)

Would getting the upcoming SFxT be a viable choice? I'm currently running with a dual-modded 360 TE but as of lately, I've been getting the sneaky suspicion that the switches in my buttons and stick are starting to go out on me. Since the dual mod was done by someone in California (I'm in Japan), I don't want to open the stick up and mess it up any further (the 360 dashboard button won't function anymore for some reason).

I want to say that there may have been a t-shirt or some other promotional item that had Speed on it, even thought the game was confirmed to not include him. It would definitely would have been for Cross Generation Of Heroes, not Ultimate All-stars. I don't have any pics or links of it though, sorry. Google image search also came up empty.

Edit:

Is that what you're talking about? (Fifth item down.) That's the only one I remember seeing.
