NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

Focus Attack isn't getting new Q4RAFs until early March, unfortunately.

Personally my stick's probably dying so I don't think I can wait that long :(

Other sites have them. Like arcadeshock. $150 shipped

Edit: guess they only do free shipping on HORI sticks, so nevermind on that part

I wanna give away an arcade stick to somebody in this thread for the month of February. Kinda to celebrate all the new releases, excitement, and to give something back to this venerable thread.

What stick should it be (current retail, and in production)? I'm looking for any ideas about a little competition. Something fun, perhaps. I'd be willing to ship to worldwide GAFers, not just the US-based ones.

Any ideas?

Soul Edition SCV Mad Catz STick wold be my suggestion, or the super sexy Namco Mad Catz stick. Those would be my vote

Think that one is OOP.

It has gotta be easy for me to order from my location and shippable to a winner.

Art contest is kinda tough...not everybody is an artist :-(

Might I suggest a contest similar to the one that was just held on Facebook? Basically, you had a picture of Harada or Ono to download and print out on paper. You then took your picture of either one and put them in some kind of silly location/situation. No photoshopping allowed, it was all done by holding up or placing your printout in a real-world picture setting.

Not only does this allow for creativity and provide potential for lots of laughs, but you don't have to be an amazing photoshopper or artist to try your hand.

Maybe instead of Harada/Ono, this contest could use some other kind of printout. Maybe your avatar? Or your favorite fighting game character?

As for the prize, those SCV Mad Catz sticks are nice and won't break your bank. I think those VS sticks won't ship until March.

I like your idea Moofers. I did something similar photo-wise for a girlfriend, with a Bratz doll, taking pictures it in the foreground in front of famous places in the world...like the gnome.

I'm gonna wait to see if any other ideas show up, but I'm liking yours. Only problem is I'd need a disinterested party to pick the most creative. Maybe MarkMan would be willing.

Stick-wise, maybe one of the eightarcs or qanbas since they are multi-console? Folks seem to like that feature. Namco stick is an awesome idea, though only PS3...Maybe the new VS stick, since those are kinda pricey and would be a nice win.

Ok guys and gals, here is the competition:

Prize:

One Street Fighter X Tekken V.S. stick for either 360 or PS3, your choice. Whenever it ships.

OR

Namco Store Black PS3 TE stick (if it is still available after 15 February, 2012; but I'll probably order one in the coming week if it looks like we are getting entries...so if the winner opts for it they can take it, otherwise it will just go into my collection)

namco.jpg

---> Choice of stick is negotiable, say, if you wanted a qanba or eightarc or even the cheaper Fightstick Pro Black version instead but I'd rather keep it Mad Catz since MarkMan started this thread. Just try to keep it $200-ish.

Who can enter?

Any GAF member from any country. I currently live in the middle east but depending on the winner's location it will either ship directly from the US manufacturer/US amazon/US Club Namco Store or I'll have the stick sent to my CA address then have it forwarded to your address...in other words, it might take a few extra days to arrive if you live outside the US.

How to enter:

First, you will need some type of arcade stick and some type of camera/phone camera. Be creative and photograph the stick (or sticks) in some type of creative location, juxtaposition, etc. Try to surprise. Photography skills are not really important, creativity is! Feel free to manipulate the image however you feel...JUST DON'T USE PHOTOSHOP TO BREAK CONTIGUOUS SPACE...stick(s) must be in a physical environment. Take the stick apart, use a candy cab...anything you want so long as a stick is in the photo. Indoors, outdoors, etc.

PM me your photo by the end of February 15, 2012 and I'll collect them all, resize them if I can figure it out, and then show them in this thread, unmarked from who they came from. Not sure how we will pick the winner, maybe collectively, maybe MarkMan will want to pick the best one...I'll let you know around the 15th through the 20th when I post all the entrants.

One entry per username!

(My job takes me away from the internets for a week or two at a time but I'll be back by the 15th. If I'm not gone, I'll PM you back that I got your entry but, rest-assured, if I don't PM you back within that day I'm probably gone, and up some mountain with no communication and I'll PM you once I get back.)

Hopefully we get a number of entries, or I'll by sad ;-( You've got three weeks!

Good luck folks! And perhaps quote for the new page so we can get as many entries as possible, especially if I'm not here to do so myself.

Hmm, $18 for shipping isn't as bad as what I've seen for other places.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the Qanba sticks for $130 on Play Asia and then I found out the shipping costs $73 so fuck that

I had a dream Sega came out with a Virtua Stick High Grade Pro for the release of VF5FS.

It was modeled like a Lindbergh control panel.

Why was it only a dream? D:

For a downloadable game? I wouldn't bet on that. If the new VF was a packaged game, that would be a sure bet.

Well, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 got a RE for its XBOX/PSN re-release, but I agree that a new VSHG is unlikely. The closest you could l get would be the Omni case from eTokki with all the appropriately colored buttons, I guess.

I got my UMVC3 Hori fightstick and the stick itself is great but I am extremely dissapointed about the packaging especially compared to Madcatz TE packaging.

It just feels really mediocre but It's not a big deal just something I thought it would be packaged better.

Yo Arcade Stick GAF, where's a good place (online or off) to get stick art printed? Also, what's a good material?

I've done art for two sticks using FedEx/Kinko's locations. Just pick a semi-glossy paper to have them print your art on, then put it inside a lamilabel. (laminated sticker/label). Hit up the shoryuken.com forums for more detailed tutorials.

Cheers.

What kind of stick are you making the art for? If it won't have a plexiglass cover, I'd say go with something more resistant to wear than lamilabel. If you provide the art, Game On Grafix makes some nice polycarbonate prints that are similar to the surface of the VSHG and HRAP VS-SA sticks. They're more resistant to sweat and such.

Weren't the VOOT twinsticks canned? I'm pretty sure the ones that came out coincided with Virtual On Force, a retail game.

I actually thought it was the other way around. Ima go google that shit. brb

I'm back:
Andriasang has an article about a Twin Stick reissue for Force.

http://andriasang.com/comlu0/x360_twin_sticks_reissue/

Maybe it happened twice. Which makes the RSG stick cancellation sting even more. :(

Edit 2:
Here's the original VOOT production run:

http://andriasang.com/comen0/xbox360_twinsticks_size/

Then there's this.

http://andriasang.com/commix/virtual_on_force_twinsticks/

I'm not sure if that was an article that was lost, or one of Anoop's "tweet-like" headline posts. Either way it looks like the thing got re released.

I just ordered a case from him as well. Building a custom for my gf with a smaller 24mm button layout because her hands are too small for a standard 30mm one. It went out yesterday, so I gotta order everything else asap.

Yeah, two Twin Sticks released by Hori, the first is generic for VOOT, the second with a small branding for Force. I never did get the Force version since one is plenty fine for me.
