Take it up with Teddy Riley, lol. The fact he produced it is another hilarious note in the middle of all the criticism in here.

I doubt most Gaffers know who Teddy Riley is. In fact, I doubt most people know how many westerners are involved in the production of Asian pop.

I admittedly don't even know who Clazziquai and IU are, and I can't watch links in class, so I can't comment on them. As for GD & TOP...I don't see any reason to believe they would be anymore successful than Far East Movement. Maybe they would get one hit, but no real lasting impact.

2NE1 are the only ones with any real chance because they fit into what's big in western music right now more than Girls Generation and Wonder Girls. Admittedly, I think their attitude is the biggest thing though. They actually pull off legitimately seeming like they have swagger, which most asian girl groups in general fail miserably at.
IU is boss. That's all you need to know about her.

To be honest, I don't really mind KPop.

I just dislike their creepy fans.

I don't wanna hate or anything like that, but those pictures creep me out a little. I mean they are doing these "hey, let's spontaneously take a picture" kind of poses but at the same time you know that they trained these hours and hours in front of the mirror.
There's no real emotion behind it. They could be robots and you wouldn't know the difference

Are these robots for sale and where can I buy one?

The creepy fans have been there forever, both in the West and in Korea. Honestly I'd argue the Korean fans are crazier than their western counterparts. If GAF thinks the Kpop fans here are "creepy", good lawd, their heads would explode if they find out the shit that goes down in Korea.

Asian fans are crazy and deluded, and can be creepy. But, the gut reactions I feel running into k-pop-Gaf is not crazy, but creepy. Like, I would never leave them alone with female kin of mine.

However, a large number of Korean-Americans view Korean pop culture with caution, so, it might just be that.

Stuff like this puzzles me because in the end, what's the point? Same thing goes for sport fans and alike. Shit changes, life moves on. Is it worth it to spend all that time on something like this? It feels good to not be obsessed with anything in life imo.

So this is Girls Generation. Song was pretty bad and it seems like 9 girls in a pop group is way too many. That said, girl in red in the Regis interview was fine as hell.

Is there much of an indie/alternative music scene in Korea?

I like Girl's Gen but hated this "the boys" song. Run Devil Run is that hotness and they should have debuted with that.

Also, Perfume is better. Let's do this.

Sounds like a boring way to live.

2NO1 remains local and they can keep filling the international visa application form. Ain't nobody here for that mess.

Well done sis

this odious shit perforates the starcraft scene at every avenue. don't give keeaboos an inch, america, they will destroy everything you love.

in korea, it seems even the young guys perpetually have this shit on rotation.

Young guys in Korea don't get hit as much as they used to. Its sad.

I find Kpop gaf to be no more creppy than most of GAF. I'm guessing it's because instead of gifs of Games or male athletes, it's of Kpop artists that sets of the creppy alarm for some reason. But hey, to each their own or however it goes.

There is but it doesn't get as much as exposure because it's, obviously, Indie.

Didn't care much for the song but Sooyoung lookin' mighty fine there a long with many of the other girls. Don't like Sunny's blonde hair though. They should have done Run Devil Run and they needed more room to dance.

No, I was concurring with you. Sorry. No vocal inflection on the stupid internets.

yeah wasn't sure so just assumed

no harm done

also i only very lightly skimmed but i didn't see any starcraft connotations so i'm impressed since usually either kpop or starcraft usually has someone mentioning the other

Whoa gaf doesn't like Soshi huh? Different strokes I guess. Just for the record, this is probably one of their worst songs. Still think they did their thing on Letterman though.

I see people saying this a lot, but I wonder if there would have been any backlash because of Ke$ha's version?

so kpop is hitting american shores now? im kinda... no i dont feel anything at all towards this since it doesnt effect me at all. good luck to them i guess.

Even I could've figured that out lulz. Is it anywhere near the level of Japan's (awesome) indie scene? Who are some of the choice artists?

you're korean!? who's your favourite girl's generation member!?

kpop hwaiting! xxx ^ ^ xxx zzzz

<50mb gif dump>

I listen to MC Sniper, Cockrasher (Blatant Korean Rancid ripoff btw) and Suck Stuff

Saw the thread title and thought it was a mistake. Wow, is this real life. I guess Letterman gets a watch for a change.

I prefer the bubbly tunes too, though I'm not sure if America would appreciate the Gee style get-ups. Genie may have worked though.
This.

I like The Boys, but is bad compared to the other nice songs they have, Trick > The Boys, for example.

but it's SNSD, so.... SNSD Defence Force ready for bubbly-choreographic-action! :D

I wouldn't say I dislike them but I'm not a big fan of the group's music either

if anything I don't like the enthusiasts

Ke$ha's version is a demo, it was never released.

Plus she only recorded it cause the producers wanted her voice for the guide demo.

I know that. I was just thinking about the people who still think it's "Ke$ha song". Which is quite a lot for some reason.

I honestly don't know what consists of "indie" in Korea, or the US, but for a lot of people it sounds like anything that isn't idols (SNSD, Suju). I've always been partial to Jaurim and Loveholic though they're both signed to major labels, IIRC.

I'm no fan of SNSD, but at least they sing live once in a blue moon.

that shit is just as banal and diluted as the aforementioned developmentally challenged girlband awfulness, who are korea's envy/mono equivalents?

good to see most of the keeaboos saving their rebuts for their community forum wank chamber, where they aren't at the mercy of stupid ignorant westerners and their ugly opinions.

There's no indie "sound.". Indie girl groups exist.

FistFullofMetal was deemed creepy for having a million gifs of Natalie Portman, and she doesn't even act deliberately infantile.

Really dude? Stupid posts like this are a legitimate reason not to talk K-Pop in the OT.

As someone who is very familiar with Korea and Korean culture (born and raised for 8 years, but not Korean), K-pop fans can come off way too creepy for me. Especially those in western countries, that combine exoticism, adolescent affinities, and bad music taste.

I wonder if you're the kind of person incapable of enjoying a movie like Men in Black because a movie like There Will Be Blood exists.

If you are as tormented by reality as you seem, you have my pity.
