Charles spitting truth

Charles Barkley minced no words when he called the current NBA product an embarrassment on ESPN 1000's Waddle and Silvy radio show Tuesday in Chicago.

"As an NBA fan I want to apologize to the fans," Barkley said during his on-air interview transcribed by Sports Radio Interviews. "I cannot believe how bad the NBA is right now. I'm a fan first and foremost; watching the NBA right now, I'm embarrassed about the product we're putting out there right now. It's no fun for me to watch these games. I feel bad for the fans."

Barkley, an 11-time NBA All-Star, praised the area's local team — the Chicago Bulls — and its star point guard, reigning MVP Derrick Rose. Barkley also insisted that the Bulls are one of only a handful of entertaining teams in the NBA.

"There are probably 10 teams worth watching on a nightly basis," Barkley said. "They have all these built in excuses about it's the lockout. Let me tell you something: If these teams played once a week, they would still suck. You watch one of these teams, and if they rested for a week they would still suck."

Barkley also blasted ESPN's Skip Bayless for criticizing Rose after he missed a couple of fourth-quarter free throws in Sunday's 97-93 loss to the Heat.

"Anybody who goes after Derrick Rose is just an idiot," Barkley said. "First of all, I think Skip Bayless is the biggest punk in the world. How can you go after Derrick Rose?

"He is the reigning MVP. The Bulls have the first or second best record in the NBA. I don't understand? Those are the first two free throws he missed all year in the fourth quarter."

No Haywood or Odom tonight? That's not a good sign.

It is, but I still think the Mavs can beat OKC in a seven game series. It's a terrible match up for them.

I also think that Chicago was kind of foolish for choosing Rip over Vince Carter.

Barkley is right about the current state of the NBA. To be frank, at least half of the teams aren't worth watching. Say what you will about Minnesota, but at least they're entertaining.

Guys who are or should be all-star, all-nba, or DPOY contention players would be top-end talent. Or approaching those.

In that case 2002 is worse too.

Scoring and shooting percentage are way down, and then you have teams resting players not because they are injured, but because they are not in shape/fatigued due to the schedule and a lack of training camp, essentially cheating money from fans.

I hate this line up. You can't have 3 worthless players in the starting lineup. It just doesnt work. At least get Ridnour and Darko out of there. We need Webster or Beasley and Pek in there. Hell, even AR would be better than Darko, and he could probably guard hibbert alright.

I know. I can't believe Darko is back starting.

I can understand wanting to use Beasley as 6th man. Just not when you start Ridnour and Wes. That's stupid.

The Celtics are playing some pretty great defense right now... but I think a large part of that is because the Raptors suck so much.

This is just a horrendous game for the Bulls. They just look totally lost on offense and defense. I don't care what Rose says either, as that toe has got to still be bothering him.

Andre Drummond is so bad offensively. Dude passes up open dunks just because he might get fouled and then can barely hit rim when he does shoot free throws. He's worse than Biyombo on offense
