Girls Generation - "The Boys" Live On David Letterman

Song is really terrible and dance routines don't really feel right seen on a American show. I do like their Taxi song, but others not so much. I actually quite enjoy Sistar, since all their singles are really catchy and fun. Their group is also sensibly sized that i can see the difference in performers.

How do these groups make any money with so many performers in the group and the massive effort in behalf of label? Also S-Korea is much smaller market than 'murica.

Man, after watching Wonder Girls North American debut, it totally blows SNSD's out of the water.

Plus, better song too.

They'll probably do better because they are going all in, while SNSD are kinda just doing random appearances with no real plan.

Soshi are still making quite a bit from record sales and concerts, even divided nine ways. And individual members get money from commercials and endorsements and stuff.

And their market isn't limited to S. Korea. Folks all over the world are buying kpop. It's big in Japan, so to speak, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, so on. South American kids like it. French kids like it.

Wonder Girls should push G.N.O. in America. It's definitely more palatable to American than anything else I've heard from WG or SNSD.

I honestly think they are too feminine to make it in the west. Only TOP can make it work.

Anyway, SNSD may have better songs, but they were never going to debut with a non-english song in the USA and expect to have any remote amount of success. Most of their songs probably wouldn't translate well anyway.

Taeyang is pretty big already in the US, at least with teens/college kids I think. Not HUGE, but Wedding Dress was pretty popular.

Enjoyed this thread till the defense force came in.

It's shitty pop music no matter what country it's from. Admirers, if they were teenage boys, would be understandable because getting hype over pop stars you want to stick you wiener in is not out of the ordinary for 15 year olds. As it is, too many guys who should have outgrown these silly fantasies are made to look exceedingly creepy, obsessing over rehearsed, prefabricated personalities and pretending as if the exoticism of a foreign band somehow protects them from being different from your typical pimply-faced teeny bopper.

And it's not just the music and dancing, which attempts to be sexy but somehow falls flat – with 18 perfect legs, how they manage this is beyond me – the conversations regarding these girls are alarmingly illconceived.

Please tell me what to enjoy, I'm awaiting instruction. You seem to have ALL the ANSWERS.

You're free to enjoy whatever you want. I'm free to feel disgusted by your taste.

lol, you wanted a hate thread and you're calling us juvenile. Jog on.

I don't jump into the k-pop threads to shit up the place out of respect for members. But given the opportunity, I'll join in the hate. :)

I remember seeing that video linked on Facebook by people who don't listen to kpop at all. I don't think they're that big, but Big Bang definitively among the more popular K-Pop groups.

I'm aware of how vapid most Kpop is and I enjoy it, but I don't think I've been compelled to feel disgusted with someone for what they enjoy, regardless of what I think of it.

In any case, you'll come around to Girls' Generation. Eventually.

THEY ALL DO.

No, he's dead right, Phenomizer. You keaboos are all on some kind of weird fetish, you pepole sicken me. Is this what you like: http://youtu.be/3OiqOUUiD34?t=41s

LOL. What the fuck... *dead*

I lived in Seoul for an intolerably long amount of time (one year). Trust me, I will never come around to K-Pop. It embodies most everything that made me hate living in that country.

I guess you have fairly specific reasons as to why you won't/don't/can't enjoy it then.

I can enjoy Kpop from a distance though, and I appreciate the escapism from time to time. I don't think I could ever live in Korea though, there are certain elements of the culture that I don't really subscribe to... but bring on the fluff!

i don't get how people hate pop anymore

like, terrible fucking bullshit about being 'in the club' and fucking bitches and whatever on top of awful pseudo-brostep, that can get out

but generic slush like this? who cares, it's either fun or you don't give a shit

it's not 1995 anymore anyway, you can avoid it

I lived in a redneck region of South Korea for two years; Seoul was a breath of fresh air and fun every time I went. It's not as cool as Tokyo, but it's a nice city still.

was expecting some extremely off key bad performance from the way everyones been goin on, I thought they did fine.

My biggest takeaway after having read this thread:

It's a lot easier to dismiss something outright than it is to find something in it worth loving.

SNSD would do better than Wonder girls in the US....at least more capable than the overplayed "nobody"

Who ever said Big Bang or any male kpop star would do well in the US are crazy.
yellow fever only apply to males.
No teenyboppers here in the US will scream for TOP or G-dragon like how they do to Justin Bieber...talent is no factor.

Sorry to say this but to American women, Asian males are near the bottom of the barrel in terms of attractiveness.

Far east movement got exposure do to a club banger....but they had there 15 min...

Wait what, theyre expecting american males to listen and buy this music?

Some. And some will. Quite a few already do.

But you're not chiefly the target, no. It's not exactly make or break if American males don't like it. It's not even make or break if American girls don't go for it.

SNSD would/will flop mega hard in the US.

In fact, any K-Pop group that largely subscribes to the K-Pop standard will flop mega hard in the US. Over-rehearsal of routines combined with a de-emphasis of individualism and a smattering of culture shock makes these girls come off as mindless robots. So much so that it's actually kind of eerie (especially when they're mid-tour and noticeably fatigued).

SNSD has not a chance in hell, no matter how much money their label invests in an attempt to break the U.S. market.

The only group that has any shot is 2NE1. Why?

1) There's only four of them.
2) There's actually a significant focus on individualism within the group. All of the girls play a noticeably different role. They're reminiscent of TLC in that respect.
3) They're being nurtured by Will.I.Am, so a lot of their music and appearance already has a very Western-friendly slant.
4) They have loud personalities.

Edit: Oh, and Bom can Sang, and having a signature vocalist that's talented is a common feature of most successful girl groups. Strange how SNSD couldn't manage that in a troupe of 9 girls.

2) There's actually a significant focus on individualism within the group.

There is with Soshi, too. It's just that 4 minutes here and 3 minutes there, when they don't actually get to talk much (not that more than two of them have capable English) or do much of anything except perform, doesn't really get that across.

Wonder Girls doing their movie is probably a good opportunity in this respect, but they have to fit into the suffocating bounds of a Teen Nick movie - so individuality isn't precisely what one would expect to come out at the end of it.

lol wait. Caught your edit. You a fool.

For some reason America loves male pop groups.

I remember when they first debuted everyone said they were a Korean B2K.

I have no doubt they'd be big if they come out with a club banger.

Yep. Get them a crazy banger that chicks can dance too and it is in.

When I make movies I am getting T.O.P. to be in one. That guy is fucking hilarious.

Um...NO....this tread is funny!!

1) There's only four of them.
3 of them butt ugly....if some here think SNSD are unattractive, they will cry when they see 2NE1

Joke post?

you got the slant right...plus CL is crossed-eyed....wow I'm mean
4) They have loud personalities.
Thats also overly manufactured.

Not sure if I'm serious...

Haha - who told you that?

Male Pop groups are having a harder time breaking than female groups. The only exceptions being Rock groups and the occasion Rap duo.

Other than that, groups period are kinda dead in the US at the moment.

People said the same shit in the late 90's and then the boy band craze hit. It's always done that. Music goes through phases.

"Guitar Groups are on their way out."
