So I had posted ealier about my battery life woes with my 1.5 year old Samsung Focus. This morning I hit a breaking point, the phone died the first time I turned on the screen after pulling off the charger.

Half hour standby time!

I went to pull out the battery and when I put my fingernail in the backplate slot to remove it the backplate shot off like a hot casing. the battery has swollen to 150% it's original thickness.

I put in an order for a new battery on Amazon last week, it should arrive today or tomorrow, but until then I'm afraid to put this thing in my pocket on or off. I'm just glad it's not the phone or operating system draining the battery, it's definitely a problem with the battery itself.

I'd take a photo of it but, yeah.

Damn defective battery. It happens man. Sorry to hear that.

How did you do this? My girlfriend was just asking me if she could change her lock screen and background colors but I couldn't find anything besides changing the tile colors.

In addition to the settings (lock+wallpaper -> change wallpaper), any time you're looking at a picture in the pictures hub, if you press the "..." for the additional options, you should see a use as wallpaper option.

By the way, tweakers.net (dutch tech site) did a comparison between the 'budget' Windows Phone 7 devices (2nd gen). I thought it was interesting and I'll post a summary here:

In short, if you're going for the complete software package (Nokia Drive), the Lumia 710 is a good choice. If that's not that imporant to you, get the Omnia W with the better screen and better camera (and thinner design). The Radar falls a little short compared to the competition, but is an ok phone. Avoid the Acer Allegro at all cost though. As this comparison shows, there are much better alternatives.

If I had to choose I'd go for the Omnia W. I think it's the only one with an FFC out of the 4.

samsung is slow with their updates though.

i'd go with the radar as i think it's the most solid feeling phone of that bunch. i never held the acer though.

Does anyone have a 710? Would like to know how it is.

Edit: My wife has an old BB with Fido which has a bigger sim card so the 710 is probably a no go. I'll probably need her to switch carriers.

I've been following these instructions in how to install a screenshot feature without unlocking my phone.

http://www.innovativetechguy.com/

I have installed and downloaded what was needed. I'm confused though, is plugging the USB to the PC with this emulator open meant to allow us to see whats on our phone screen on our PC monitor? Because that isn't the case here. All I see is a default emulator skin with just the IE tile on it

Nokia Lumia 800 released in Norway today. And the strangest thing is that several of the bigger mobile stores are advertising it. They’ve finally taken down the iPhone 4S posters in favor for Nokia Lumia 800.

I gave NFS:Hot Pursuit a try and it plays pretty good on my Focus. Might consider buying it. Also Portals 2D is fun Portal indie game which is free at the moment and is definitely worth a look.

I was in T-Mo earlier today, took a look at the 710, nice shape/size to it, I couldn't get a real hands on feel because of the tether attached to it. It was at the front of the store, and a huge sign off to the left.

*hit power button*

Nothing

*hit it again*

Reboot straight to black screen.

Good going local T-Mo!

I'm going to contact T-Mobile tomorrow to see if I can get a deal for the 800 in Cyan.

my bill is like £15.50 or something a month. My last bill was £34.14 but that's for 2 phones

I get unlimited text, unlimited internet (500mb cap on video) and 300 minutes a month on both lines.

There is a £21 pm plan just with that package, but the phone is £100.

15.50 x 24 months = £372
£21 x 24 months + 100 = £604

However there is an 18 month contract at £26 per month (with the handset costing £100) that would actually be cheaper for you. Whether or not they'd let you switch from a 24 month contract to an 18 month one however is very doubtful. Anyway will let you know what they offer me tomorrow

When I went to a T-Mobile store in downtown Miami, all their phones were just dummy retail phones, you couldn't play with any of them. I agree the 710 feels nice in the hand. I want to hold an 800 SO BAD, but I'll have to settle for the 900 when my wife gets her upgrade in a few months.

How does that work? You can surf and download apps, but if you play videos past 500mb they throttle you?

I don't really know if I'm honest. It's in their fair usage policy but I've never been stopped from doing anything or charged extra and I'm pretty sure I've gone over a few times

They even let me use my data connection for wifi-sharing for no extra cost. Never had a problem there either.

Spec comparisons are all well and good, but nothing beats the in-hand feel of the Lumia 800. You might consider this shallow, but the aesthetics of the 800\900 make it easily stand out against any of the WP7 handsets, hell against any other phone on the market. The 800's benchmarks are middling, at best, but that's not something that's always felt in real-world use. I certainly don't think my 800 is slow in any aspect.

Now that's it's Feb. and CES is over do we think we'll get any pre MWC leaks in terms of what we might get or hear about? I haven't really seen anything leak yet.

I reckon for MWC we will see:

*Skype (finally)
*Show Tango but more around boasting about its massive language support (and hopefully huge marketplace footprint)
*Teaser for WP8 (similar to what they did at CES2011

*New samsung/htc phones
*EU variant of Lumia 900

Anyone running the Lumia 800 still having battery issues after the update, becuase its like my phone has got worse post update

Back up your phone and do a factory reset.

Worked for me and someone else in this thread (though I don't have a Nokia).

So if you're on T-Mobile and want to use the Lumia 800 you have to buy an unlocked Lumia 800 (off contract) and it won't be able to use 3G? I mean, I like the Lumia 710, seems like a capable phone but stylistically I love the Lumia 800 so much more. Its too bad you have to make some serious compromises with it.
