so does that new 3G/Wifi bundle for $300 essentially make the Wifi only version a bad purchase? i mean even if I don't want the 3G I still get a memory card and game with the system...

I play some games at gamestop gravity rush and uncharted was below resolution but they do look great trust me you have to have it in your hands to see

I played it back at E3, and I didn't notice anything, but I'm just hearing that in comparison the native res games are a lot sharper. Probably not a huge deal.

No. Buy a wi-fi only Vita and an 8gb card saves you $20. Put that $20 into a full retail game, since the free game included with the 3G Vita's are PSN titles that will require you to activate the ATT service for 1 paid month (which is $15). The 3G launch bundle is a good deal, but I don't think it devalues that wi-fi Vita much at all, since the 3G Vita was overpriced to begin with.

If you're buying early, I think so. There's still a decent chance games will be meaningfully enhanced by the always-on connection. I think that chance (+gps) is worth $20 extra. And even if it's not, you're still getting a free game to sweeten the deal.

But this bundle is not going to last forever. The Playstation Blog said it would be for a limited time only. So Wifi-only will likely be the most popular model a few months from now.

Hard to say, honestly depends on your situation and the vale you put on 3G

Even if you were already planning on buying one of the optional $10 PSN games and an 8GB mem card, the 3G bundle is still $10 more expensive.

Huh...weird that they would have a Vita event and a Twisted Metal event in SF at the same time.

Fight Club that night too :) we bringin it!

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 vita will be there too

I'm hearing that the Vita isn't very good at scaling and games that aren't in the native resolution look pretty rough. How bad is this, really? It's not going to affect my purchase, as I've already preordered a First Edition bundle, but I was kind of shocked to hear that A) some games are in the native resolution, and B) that it doesn't scale all that well.
As an extension of this I'm curious to know how good PSP games look on it, with and without filtering. It sounds like it's REALLY GOOD, but if there's issues with non-native resolution then I'm curious as to how bad that is, even if the resolution is exactly quadruple that of the PSP's.

I've heard that games that save directly on cart don't allow the saves to be transfered to memory stick?

If I buy a physical copy of a game that doesn't save on cart than that save can be transfered and isn't tethered to the cart in any way right?

how big of a memory card is really needed? I mean, is it known what an average full scale game downloaded from PSN will take up? I was thinking 16 gb would be sufficient, but if 8 is good i'll probably just get the 3G/Wifi bundle and eat the $20 in case i want 3G in the future.

If you're planning on buying all retail but PSN only titles 8 is more than enough

There's numerous videos on youtube demonstrating PSP titles on a Vita. For one in particular, search on 'Monster Hunter Vita'. Looks pretty damn good and takes advantage of the 2nd stick.

Question:
If I have two memory cards, with different accounts on each
How much of a hassle would it be to switch back and forth? I'm assuming I would have to do a factory reset on the vita every time?

I am still having trouble choosing between a wifi+16GB and 3G 8GB bundle.

The more I read and think about it, the 3g almost doesn't exist as a feature. Having to pay $15 for a month of pointless 3g service to get a second pointless month and a $10 game doesn't make much sense.

Meanwhile you also have to factor in space for PSN only games, demos, PS1 classics(some day). But surely the memory card prices will also drop in the future..

Go back a couple pages and you'll find a link showing you exactly what needs to be done. But long story short, yeah, factory reset every time.

Yes every time. There are some videos of people showing what to do and how long it takes.

I currently have the WiFi ordered but I'm really considering going with the 3G bundle her in the UK since Amazon are now giving out the free 8gb card for either Vita version. So I'm still paying the extra for the 3G (though we get Wipeout) but since I'm not buying a card I'm getting the option of 3G and GPS for like £22 over what I was expecting to pay. I just think I'll be annoyed if something comes out that uses it well and dont have it, or if say TomTom or Google maps comes out for it.

While the second stick thing is a no brainer, I've seen the videos and think hands on impressions can be just as useful, if not moreso. At the least I know the colors are at their peak on the Vita, but sharpness? It's quadruple the resolution exactly so it probably won't be like the 3DS, but there could still be a hit like with Retina display games.

What case is everyone getting?

I am still deciding between:

PDP PSVita Custom Crystal Case
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006X0KBY6/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Hori Hard Pouch for PlayStation Vita (Blue)
http://www.play-asia.com/Hard_Pouch_for_PlayStation_Vita_Blue/paOS-13-71-1a7-49-en-70-4h5p.html

I am leaning towards the PDP case since it reminds me of the Logitech PlayGear Pocket Case for the psp that was built like a friggin tank.

I like the Hori pouch

I was going to get the silver one myself until they showed more pics of the First Edition bundle case and I decided it looked pretty good

Does anyone know if Gamestop is having a midnight launch for the early edition Vita bundle?

my local one is because assuming I cave and preorder there they have three people who have preordered and all three of us are willing to show up at midnight

the manager said he actually expects to do more business from that then the previous night when they are doing a midnight for Twisted Metal and UFC

I've heard that games that save directly on cart don't allow the saves to be transfered to memory stick?

that's one of my fears which is leading me to most likely just go all digital

Closing in on two weeks! Putting in my preorder on Friday. Anyways, just posting here to make it known that I'll be making the wipeout thread. Can't fucking wait.

I don't get one thing concerning PS Vita 3G version.

Let's take Fifa or Wipeout. Will I be able to play online matches with friends being outside, or the 3G function will just be related to stuff like comparing scores, chatting,...?

Thanks.

Nah, 3g is too slow for full online play.

It'll be useful for asynchornous (non-realtime) stuff. Like leaderboards and stuff like that.
Also, useful for NEAR- since you'll always have a connection and thus will get a lot more gifts.

My 16 gig card on my PSP is full! I don't even have all the games I own on PSN downloaded to it, either.

I have a pre-order for a WiFi version on play.com.

But i am so seriously tempted to jump on the 3G version. Especially since i have found a decent deal for 500MB internet for £5 on giff gaff.

That and there are now some deals showing up.

Any advice? (the extra cost of the console is not a concern)

Weird. I tried to copy TO:LUCT from PS3 onto my Vita, the saved game data was there. But no sign of the game itself. Does that mean we importers have to wait until the Vita store is up and running or something? Or is it simply that TO ain't Vita compatible.

Either way, it's annoying.

I've deduced that NEAR's range dynamically changes.
(based on redsungamer saying it's 0.5km and IGN saying it's 10miles, and a near hands on saying it was 3km)
so it seems like it changes depending on how much other vitas are around.

which is great.
I dout i would meet much people in my city with a vita. But with a 10km range, my worries are gone.

Yes, it does. It sometimes tells me there are 30 or so people playing nearby (I'm in Scotland) which is clearly not the case if it's nearby at all.

Right, finally got my launch plans sorted!

{Wifi Vita
4 GB Memory Card
Pre-order pack
Fifa} £250 (£225 after staff discount)
Uncharted £35 (£31.50 after staff discount, £6.50 after £25 vouchers from above offer)
Rayman £6
WipEout £23

Total = £260.50

Looking like a pretty good deal to me! Can't wait!

I also really want Virtua Tennis, but after spending £100 on clothes today, I should probably give that a miss.

A nice vid on the Playstation blog for Motorstorm RC, shows some asynchronous racing and the pit wall.

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2012...video-run-through-of-competitive-online-play/

I'm coming round on Modnation Racers after musing on it, too. I find it hard enough to multiplay with friends due to time differences and family life, so things like Modnation and Motorstorm RC with ghosts and whatnot make sense for me.

I can understand folks' complaints, though. Just prefer to game on with friends these days...the competition is always more friendly and as we get older, the skill level is relatively the same due to time commitments.

Anyway, yeah, Motorstorm looks like a great little racer.

My plan is to buy an 8GB card at launch and use that for a year or so until we see some much larger capacity cards for cheaper prices. I'm buying the physical copy of all the retail games I pick up and only using the card for PSN titles and save data so I don't think it should be a problem.

The PSP taught me to avoid overpaying for a memory card during the early portion of the system's life.

Blazblue is over 3 gigs and Uncharted is just under 3 gigs.

Those games are at the high end.

Game looks pretty great, when is it coming out?

Following up on the memory card question - is there a definitive answer yet as to whether it's better to go with retail games or PSN yet? It feels like every time I hear impressions there are load time concerns with the PSN versions over retail, but maybe that's just coincidental?

Apparently the read/write on the memory cards is slower than the retail game cards. I'm not sure how big the difference is though. PSN is supposed to offer a discount though.

I get the complaints but I also deal with this on my 1TB drive in my PC. I've cleaned the fridge on every possible system that has that setup. For the most part, 16GB will be enough but getting the 32GB is just future proofing and avoiding the hassle.

I guess that's the question then - does the discount sufficiently overcome the loading hit? Just seems pretty backwards to spend up to a hundred dollars on a memory card when it's actually could be a disadvantage to having one (outside of for needed game save files).

Well, they finally convinced me to make the jump to the 3G version. I cancelled my 32GB memory card and the Vita WiFi pre-order and I'm getting the 3G version with the free memory card and game instead. At least I'll now have the option of using the 3G if I wanted to. I wasn't really planning on downloading too many games anyway. I haven't fully embraced DD yet.

Even though the memory cards are slower than the game carts im not sure the difference will be that big or even noticeable. This isn't like the PSP where we were moving from optical media to flash. Has there been any tests done to see if there's a difference? I'd be interested to know.

Anyways anyone know if Wipeout is one of the memory card required games? I ordered my memory card from Costco cause it was 15 bucks off but I don't know if it will be here for me on launch day. Wipeout is the only game I'm buying so hopefully I don't end up in limbo with a system and a game but being unable to play it.

Argh. I'm waivering on this now myself. Either WiFi + 32 or 3G w/ free 8GB and PSN game (which will be Super Stardust for me, or Escape Plan if that's an option) for $50 less.

Sorry if this has been asked, but what game comes with the Wifi/3G bundle? Is it a physical copy or a DL voucher?

The First Edition bundle? That's kinda unknown still...

First Edition Bundle Box shows a physical copy of the game.
