PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

I swear I'm not trying to troll. To me, honestly, Gravity Daze, sound shapes and escape plan are the only games that are really exciting from that entire list. The rest seem too much like console games for my personal taste.

So many of the announced games just seem like slightly altered PS3 games, which is an incredible feat, just not something I am super excited to play. I want games that are catered towards shorter burst of play, that utilize the unique features of the vita.

I want Sony to continue more in the vein of Patapon and Loco Roco, not Uncharted, Resistance, and Killzone.

But like I said, taste is a subjective thing. You clearly like the console gaming experience and want it on the Vita. There is nothing wrong with that. I just want something a little different from that. :)

Technical reason. Sony won't release one.

Piracy hurt the PSP market. They don't want to provide easy access for hacking.

The great divider IMO.

I actually want a console experience on this particular handheld. My iPhone is for quick portable game play.

Killzone sells units; Loco Roco doesn't.

Despite some vocal assertions here on GAF, I don't believe Sony developed a whole new memory card standard unique to the PSVita just because they wanted to boost their profit margins by selling over-priced memory. The point of this memory standard is to try to maintain control over what gets onto the Vita - to keep the homebrew and pirate communities from doing to the Vita what they did to the PSP. For that reason, I can't see them licensing this tech to any third parties like Kingston like they did with the Pro Duo.

Same, I enjoy playing console games on my portables. That way I can use my tv to watch my Stars, Cowboys, or Mavs play and still get a console experience. Or, the more likely event, my fiance can watch Top Chef and Real Housewives in the living room while I'm still playing Uncharted like a boss.

I agree with this 100%. I have no problem with Sony locking the system down and trying to stop CFW and piracy. I want to see the Vita and Vita game developers do well, as I don't want portable gaming to become tablet/smartphone only. :(

I just watched the Motorostorm RC video, and am really impressed with that developer's grasp of a good middle ground in terms of portable gaming with console gaming depth. Short stages, fast load times, and a sense of community engagement/progression. That is what I am talking about when I say that the Vita needs games that embrace the best parts of a portable system. :)
 
I already know I'm gonna be so jealous the extra week I have to wait for not opting for the First Edition bundle, but other than the week early release, nothing in it appealed to me, rather than building my own package via gift cards at multiple locations.

You can't just plug a Vita memory card into your computer and start copying files to it like you can with a standard MSPD. That's the big difference.

Even when you hook your Vita up to your computer, there is no "drive" that pops up. Everything is done through their media management software.

People will get around that though.

Edit: I'm curious to see how many of those who are waiting a week will break.
 
I'm thinking about not eating out or buying coffee for the two weeks before launch to justify the spending extra $50 cost of the FEB.

Yeah, Vita should focus on console experience because PSN, PS Minis, and PS Certified covers the quick gameplay. Heck, I should probably not carry my Xperia around anymore.

Wouldn't that be possible with any memory architecture, given that it's a format? You just said that I could plug it into my computer, so how is that different than a MSPD or SD card with a specific file format?

Also, I can't wait to see how fantastic Sony's Mac build of their iTunes-ish program is.

I understand, the titles you list are also the ones I'm most interested in.. but I guess I do not differentiate between console and handheld game experiences. With the Vita's capabilities and the various input methods, I don't see a reason for that line of thinking anymore.

Personally I want nothing more than complete convergence between the handheld and console spaces. I want to be able to play Dark Souls on the-go just as much as I would want to play a game like Push-Mo.

Just because a high-end gaming rig is equipped to play the biggest blockbusters, doesn't mean I won't use that same hardware to enjoy hours of Terraria or Minecraft.
 
That live Gamespot stream says they're going to be playing Mortal Kombat! Looking forward to that!

Got to see a Vita for the first time today, what a gorgeous machine!

The Show looks phenomenal, but I just can't see how people are going to choose this version over the PS3 version.

Edit: Now I get it. The ability to play your franchise on either PS3 or Vita is pretty nice.

For copying files into your PC, the Vita controls the PC rather than the other way around.

As mentioned, no drive will show up in your PC, however, your PC folders will show up on the Vita.

And there won't be any memory card reader/writers available for the PC. Absolutely no way for anything to get in and out of the memory card without the Vita.
 
Meh, if FEB were like what you could've gotten from BestBuy Canada (plus the 8 GB card) it'd actually be a no brainer, but to me it's just wasting a lot of money to play it a bit early. I may be impatient and end up cracking on whether I get a Vita sooner than later, but not THAT impatient.
