Yup. All dem' SRPG's, JRPG's ... Oh wait.
You never had a PS2, did you ?
I had a PS2. But I don't play shit games that are 95% cutscenes featuring pedophile-friendly artwork.

Aha. It shows.
Yeah, but for those 14+ million that got an Xbox 360; it will be the first time they play many of the games that has been released all this years; on top of the ones that got it for Kinect. So is not like 5+ years of games should be ignored now; when to many it will be the first time they play those games. My last post should explain why I dropped my play time total. I'm slowly drifting further away from consoles entirely to the point where I'm not sure I'll be buying any next generation consoles. The fact that the 2011 market leader is the one that didn't bother me at all concerns me a bit about the future.
I really like my 360 but I still think it's a damn shame that Microsoft didn't lose more because how they treated RROD in general.
Yes, I play pedophile games. Me and Icecream go way back.
Seriously, what kind of post is this?
The PS3 doesn't exactly have a vast JRPG/SRPG libary either. That genre of game is pretty niche nowadays.
You might want to consider board games then. The 360's software library is as broad as any other console in the history of gaming.
It's telling that the only 360 games I bought this year were multi-platform and only purchased on 360 because my PC is jank, or is considerably better on 360 than PS3.

Out of curiosity, do you think that this makes you a case-study or an anomaly?
Why aren't you counting XBLA?PS2 has about 2,016 games.
Xbox 360 has about 887.
Not even close.

Hmmm, tell me more...I thought this was a typical cocky move I hate seeing from a company and it sucks that they fulfilled that goal. Still, congrats MS.
Larger success DOES equal larger target audience. The 360's library DOES reach a larger target audience than the PS3's. And for most of this generation (possibly even now), the 360 has satisfied more niche gamers than the PS3. XBL Indies, XBLA, Cave Shooters, Motion Control Games, Kids Games, hell even now the 360 probably has a better range of JRPGs to pick from.Because it disappoints me that hardware with software that doesn't target me at all manages to achieve such success. I would've thought larger success = larger target audience but my interests are niche and I suppose don't fit in with MS's plans.
If by broad you mean the majority of titles in specfic genres than yes I agree but I would say that it's not near as broad as previous systems like playstation 1 and 2 or even the dreamcastYou might want to consider board games then. Yes and I still think it should have hurt them way more than it did, I just hope next gen it makes a difference. They lost literally billions of dollars.
Most 360 software is 3rd party, and the vast majority of it is multiplatform. It's not something to be ashamed of.
I played video games on my 360 for like 10 hours the entirety of 2011. :/
I assume you're talking retail. The same applies to the PS3.Most 360 software is 3rd party, and the vast majority of it is multiplatform. It's not something to be ashamed of.
Given Microsoft's first party output is incredibly narrow in scope, I imagine the overwhelming majority of software bought on it is third party.
Is it? They're releasing plenty of titles this year.Given Microsoft's first party output is incredibly narrow in scope

No.I disregard most of the DD stuff since a huge glut is arcade, or top down shooters and tower defense games.
Maybe if we were in 2008. In 2012 that's far from being anything near truth. Many of the 360's exclusive JRPGs are now on PS3, and there's a tonne of JRPGs that are now PS3-only.
I disregard most of the DD stuff since a huge glut seems to be arcade, or top down shooters and tower defense games. I play mostly platformers and RPGs so while there's games there, it's slim pickings for quality stuff.
With Kinect, XBLA publishing, and big heavy hitters that are equivalent to Sony's, Microsoft has a much wider publishing scope.Given Microsoft's first party output is incredibly narrow in scope, I imagine the overwhelming majority of software bought on it is third party.
Nah, '08 was Wii biggest year.'09 was a huge year for Wii
Wii momentum is fading real fast, no wonder Nintendo is pushing Wii U for this year and planning a huge launch for the machine.

why are we talking about playtime on a sales thread
is this the new wii is gathering dust thing?

And Deadlight, Trials Evolution, FEZ, Alan Wake American Nightmare, Sine Mora and so on. Plenty of good stuff.Like Halo and .... terrible Kinect games ?

3rd party games are awesome this gen. The COD series on the PS3 has taken a good 70% of my playing time this gen.
You missed out.

When people deride 360's exclusives they always make sure to sidestep around Arcade.
