This being said, there is one thing I'm still curious about. That would be charging the battery. Generally speaking, you're supposed to turn on your electronics, and drain the battery first to train the memory of the battery, then charge it to full. I've actually been guilty of not doing this, then charging the device without a full drain in order to avoid not having enough charge to last thoughout use of my electronics. I wonder if this will still happen with the Vita if I do not change my habbits.

With the iphone 4s, I'm told that charging whenever I feel like charging will have no negative effect on the battery life because, unlike an android based phone, the iphone 4s will kill the charging once the battery is full. As long as I drain to empty, and completely charge once every two months at minimum, my iphone 4s battery supposedly will be fine. I am fearful that this is not going to be the case with the Vita, and I must change my charging habbits to be sure to drain the batter, then charge to full just about every time. Does anyone know what charging habbits should be employed with the Vita? I ask this because I assume I'll be charging this thing all the time with such a short battery life.

Actually, Android phones use the same battery tech as the iphone. Lithium Ion batteries are the standard for most consumer electronics. The PSP was equipped with a Lithium Ion battery and the Vita is no different. Here are some tips from Wiki:
"Prolonging battery pack life

Avoid deep discharge and instead charge more often between uses, the smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last.

Avoid storing the battery in full discharged state. As the battery will self-discharge overtime, its voltage will gradually lower, and when it is depleted below the low-voltage threshold (2.4 to 2.9 V/cell, depending on chemistry) it cannot be charged anymore because the protection circuit (a type of electronic fuse) disables it.

Lithium-ion batteries should be kept cool; they may be stored in a refrigerator.

The rate of degradation of Lithium-ion batteries is strongly temperature-dependent; they degrade much faster if stored or used at higher temperatures."

I did some research when I first bought my PSP because I had heard conflicting reports of battery care. Ni-cad batteries do have a memory and it is better to discharge completely before charging. Probably the only place you will find Ni-cads any more are in cordless power tools, and even they are slowly changing over to Lithium.
Lithium batteries, the kind of batteries in cell/smart phones, Vita, MP3 players, laptops, etc., will last longer if you keep them fully charged as much as possible. Just charge them whenever you get the chance, no matter how much battery life is left. I did this with my PSP launch unit and the battery lasted for about 3 years of fairly heavy use. In fact, the battery didn't take a crap until I stopped charging it regularly and occasionally charged it after it had drained from sitting around. Hope this helps.

This is disappointing. The stick buttons are usually well implemented, sprinting in an FPS, for example. Wonder why they left that out, especially with only 2 shoulder buttons...

They probably thought the touch screen or rear-touch could serve as suitable replacement inputs.

Where are my Army Corps of Hell brothers?

I'll probably get it

launch is getting too expensive :(

edit: guess I haven't made my launch list before

PS Vite First Edition bundle
2x 32GB memory cards (leaning towards getting two, one for Vita games and the other for PSP games but not committed, it'll depend on finances)
Screen Protector (Hori or Sony)
Hot Shots Golf
Wipeout 2048
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Virtua Tennis 4 (I really enjoy tennis games though would prefer another Hot Shots Tennis title)
and MLB 12 The Show when it comes out

then my on the fence titles
Army Corps of Hell
Shinobido 2
BlazBlue
Uncharted (solely because of the price)

I am going all digital so hopefully we'll see a nice little discount for PlayStation Plus members

Why are you getting a micro SD card?

Because that is what it really is, but probably called different by Sony.

I would but I sucked at the PSP version so I doubt I'll be any better with the new one

I'm picking it up just for the awesome soundtrack.

Also, has anyone started seeing actual Sony commercials for the Vita? I know they have the Taco Bell thing going on but I've yet to see a Sony sponsored ad for the Vita.

There is a lot of speculation that it was to do with durability. If the button in your DS3 breaks is a pain but fine, you need a new DS3. If the button goes in the Vita you need a while new handheld. That's never been confirmed though so treat it like you read it on Kotaku or something.

With the front and rear touch though there should be more than enough options for things as they are needed.

Drop Modnation and get Wipeout instead. You should know this.

Even without the online head to head in Modnation (which could well be getting patched in) I'm still quite looking forward to seeing what it's like and most impressions of it from a gameplay point of view are very positive which is always good.

I do think they might suffer with not having H2H ready at launch though. I couldn't give two shits about H2H as my internet connection is so bad that it makes online play next to impossible anyway (until the end of March according to BT, though I'm not banking in that!).

That plenty of Vita games seem to be implementing a-sync options quite well is cool. It should be good for those that don't want to or can't play online but who still want to compete with friends.

Something else that might be cool would be personal leagues that are not tied to your friends list. I don't think any game supports such a thing but being able to compete against all of GAF and view times and stats properly supported in the game without having you all as friends would be cool. You'd just have to enter the leagues code and a password or something and you'r signed up. Much like leagues on fantasy football.

But yeah, Wipeout all the way. Gene even said so in video blog 6 and who can argue with that?

Also, has anyone started seeing actual Sony commercials for the Vita? I know they have the Taco Bell thing going on but I've yet to see a Sony sponsored ad for the Vita.

Not a sausage here in the UK. But hey, it's only going on sale in what 18 days? Why tell consumers that you are releasing a new product?

anyone think some uninformed casual gamer will buy Army Corp of Hell thinking its HELL-YEA-ANOTHER-COD-GAME!!!!!! then realize its WTF-IS-THIS-LEMMINGS-GAME??!?!?

and couldnt Square think up a more western name other than Army Corp of Hell???? wouldnt the real US Army consider some legal action to prevent any sort of misuse of its name? Japanese gamers like to bring over games with literal translated names....Shin Megami Tensei.....Baiten Kaitos......Katamari Damacy (not to say the games are bad, but talk about limited western marketing appeal)

The older I get the more I dig asynchronous MP. Competitive gaming done completely on my time. I would love modnation to have H2H as well but if I had to choose only one I would go with asynchronous. I'm very excited for that game :)

Now I wish Robot would port over Hero Academy so I could throw my iPhone in the trash.

If I remember correctly, Toys R' Us was the first retailer to offer a B2G1 free deal for 3DS games at around launch. Best Buy at 3DS launch had a $20 gift card bonus if you bought 2 3DS games. I'm sure we'll see something like that this time. Hopefully they both do the same for Vita.

It'd be the only way I'd buy Uncharted: GA for $50.

Toys R Us had Buy 1 get 1 50% off on 3DS games the week the 3DS launched. I don't doubt we'll see something similar to boost launch day sales from some store.

Yep. That's the reason I'm not preordering most games. Only two games I'm ordering for sure is HSG and Wipeout since they got their price raised. I'm already locked in for 25% off each which is the same as B1G1@50%. Best case scenario is 33% off each game.

You know, I'm thinking money-wise it might actually be smartest to buy the Vita... and no games with a physical presence at all. Well, maybe Hot Shots Golf and Wipeout from Amazon (or anyone else selling for $30), but otherwise there's going to be at least a few good launch day PSN titles, so the system doesn't have to lay neglected at first.

I've got a couple questions. I'm almost pretty sure of the answers but I just want confirmation.

1. Will every game that gets a physical release have a downloadable version?

2. Will everything currently on the PlayStation store, and any games that will be on the store in the future, work on the Vita? (Corpse Party and Grand History Knight are two I have in mind)

So I did remember right. Sorta. I'm gonna hold off on buying any game except HSG.

I'd totally give a game like Army Corps of Hell a chance if I could get it as part of a deal.

1) That's the plan, yes.

2) Well PS3 games won't work, and PS1 games won't work initially. PSP, PSP Mini, and Vita games should be fine.

1. yes

2. 90% sure yes

1. Yes, I think it is something Sony is requiring. (It is true up to this point, anyway)

2. Not everything, but only a rare few PSP games don't work (and support is still being added). Corpse Party and GKH are both up in Japan on the Vita store, so they should work in the US.

Thank you all for the answers. Love that they're taking digital distribution seriously.
