That's the point he's making. :P

It's like calling the F.A. Cup the World Series, except only teams in England compete.

Then again, Baseball is just shit so I can see why only one country plays it at a high level.

Simply not true. I'm a big lover of baseball. I fell in love with it after going to Japan and watching the Tokyo Swallows. As I said up the page, Japan and Korea play the game to a really high level. I think the US clubs SHOULD play a real world series. A one off akin to the Club World Cup.

Japan and Korea rule at Baseball. The Hispanic parts of North America are great at it too.

I don't dislike it and it would be good with beers and stuff but watching it in bed is a bit annoying its just so slow and i prefer the end to end nature of football.

I do like the jerseys though

Each to their own.

I got into baseball after I watched an epic anime based on it then when I saw a game on TV I was put in a coma :( Same deal with NFL, only enjoyed it on Friday Night Lights.

Got about four hours restless sleep from 5:20 am on.

Damned if I'm going to feel silly for being gutted and worried to the point of cynical resignation at 3-0. It's all very well for people who don't care about how United do (except for wanting them to lose) to go on about how we always have a comeback in us. It's not always sane or prudent to completely think that way when you care about the team. To an extent, some folks might say that holding to that idea is what being a fan is, but 3-0 down and playing total crap gets the better of you sometimes.

Well you woke to the news that your nemesis is down

Any midweek football this week?

I left for school at half-time of the 2005 Champions League final instead of just turning up late. Never again.

FYI

Your best friend has been banned again.

Edit: That God damn Jeff.

Been a fan of the NFL since moving to the States. The flow of the game certainly takes some getting used to, but once your understanding of the tactical and posistional minutiae increases it really is a fascinating sport. Still behind tennis and proper football for me though.

Benfica's red is the most delicious red of reds.

There's a reason they can play so many games in a year. And that you see fatties playing it and doing well. And that it's the most quickly dying sport in terms of popularity. It's not a high intensity game.

Let's be honest, there are a lot of things that many people would find very wrong with association football. Refusal to use technology, unmitigated diving, teams allowed to buy a league title with oil money, small teams being unable to compete, relegation/promotion (how could you be an international fan and watch your team play if they weren't in the PL? ) the list goes on.

Acting like one sport is flawless is being blind. Anyone down for a rousing discussion on PC vs Mac? How about Nikon vs Canon, or maybe X360 vs Ps3!

I know someone who used to support Leeds.

I know someone who used to support Leeds.

Me too. The other kid in my grade at school who cared about football as much as I did.

This was when Leeds were hosing money all over the place and playing respectable - if vaguely thuggish - football.

I like American Football in the same way that I like Cricket. It's a good excuse to chill with some mates and get pissed all day (the amount of booze consumed is directly proportional to the clarity of the games rules and tactics) while the actual sport takes a back seat.

Right now the rules of this Superbowl thingamajig are far too fuzzy, so in the absence of Monday lectures, I'm off to improve my knowledge of the sport, all of which will promptly be forgotten in around 12 hours.

Hilarious isn't it?

What do you make of Ibra's comments? I think it's stupid to leave Milan (reigning champions/title favourites) for Madrid at this moment. Yes, Madrid are a better team, but they compete with the best team in the world in Spain.

And Mou is probably going to leave anyway next year.

i have not seen these comments. BUT from milan's point of view, if he wants to leave then arrivederci! i appreciate everything he's done for us the past couple of years but the fact is that he is a complete asshole, is 30 years old, and his agent is begging for a salary increase even though he's already the highest paid player in italy and goes around punching players. this summer would be a good time to get rid of him as long as we sign an adequate replacement, preferably balotelli.

from his personal point of view, he would have a better shot at CL with madrid so it may be a good move for him.

that said, i wouldn't mind if he stayed either, because he's fucking ibragod.

Can't believe so many Americans complain football (soccer) is dull because there is a lack of action whilst NFL games have an average of 11 minutes of actual play and 75mins of ads

Definitely on a windup said:

Great to read your timeline after a game like that. The highs and lows of football hey! What a game.

Sometimes I dunno about AVB -

philmcnulty Phil McNulty
AVB on Chelsea fans booing Rio Ferdinand: "This is a normal situation in the Premier League."

Wow, his salary is close to 9M (before taxes) last time I checked!

Mario is destined to be a Milan player ;)

Wait, mods lurk here?

Bish made an epic appearance in the last OT!

It's probably because their concentration span is so bad that to watch a flowing game like football with only one break in it is too much to comprehend.

You know the FA would give you an 8 game ban for that...

I like Baseball, excellent game, better than Cricket. I don't heavily dislike American Football (Handegg) but it just pales badly in comparison to the game it was based upon; Rugby. That Six Nations game between Ireland and Wales was miles better than this.

The US would have an awesome Rugby team if it got some of those real athletes on the 'football' teams to play. Really huge guys that can move quick. Too bad they won't play because there's still not enough cash in Rugby yet.

They could probably become a top side in rugby if they took it seriously, same for football.

i'm enjoying the superbowl outside of constant tacky ads interrupting and the half time show shit and death to america. i think it's more comparable with cricket, both have short bursts of very tactical action between two forces with different set roles, than fluid games like rugby or football.

I agree. Despite the cheese, I like the NFL's big production values and shows and shit. Wouldn't mind some of that in Football. :P

They should get Girls Aloud back together and dress them in bikinis and give them five stripper poles. I would watch that shit for 30 mins, no problem. If the cup game is shit, it gives people something to look forwards to!

Seeing the amount of Awesome that goes on around NASCAR on Top Gear earlier tonight actually made me want to attend a race. And that's the most boring sport on earth. Turn Left.

We need to up the production values at big events like the FA Cup final certainly. Though it has to be tasteful, which this isn't.

Or we could be snobbish and say "The entertainment on the field is all we need. No lights, no pop stars. People come for the SPORT."

I can't believe Pep pass on Ozil, remember when Werder Bremen were willing to sell him to us for 8 fucking millions? then Pep decided to pass on him. Stupid move by Pep, giving your fiercest rival a shot at buying a world class talent for peanuts. Should've bought him, I'm sure with how fragile Iniesta is and how old Xavi is getting he would've fit in nicely even with Fabregas and Thiago IMO.

I think this applies to the general public in our lovely nation unfortunately, otherwise no one would turn up for games like Stoke vs Wigan.
