Is there some benefit to getting the UPCs on Lego boxes? I went to a local WalMart tonight, and found a couple Lego sets I might have picked up on clearance but for the UPCs being ripped off by some douche. I did get a small Alien Conquest set and City boat kit for cheap though.

Use the clearance UPC to pay for a higher priced set? I imagine it was someone being a thief to be honest.

Today's builds!

That shuttle is impressive. I have the old School shuttle that came with a Pilot, 2 Royal Guards and The Emperor. Alot smaller.

Damn just saw it can fetch like 150 now

Today I carried up 3 huge boxes of old lego. Then, I went to Wal-Mart and bought 3 sets that were half off >.< Wallet am cry :)

So tonight I started work on the castle scene I am going to set up in a empty room of the house.

Screenshot get!

After working on it for about an hour I realize how much stuff I still need :(
So I hop on to bricklink... and after 2 hours of browsing and $300 less in my wallet I think
I am set now. xD

I love lurking this thread, it's amazing to see some of the stuff you guys do.

Garry, have you always been a Lego freak or is this a new hobby to you?

I have yet to do a Lego set yet, but I'm dying to try one...I can just see the ridicule from friends and family if they see a 30 year old "playing" with Lego, but who gives a fuck!!!

Do you guys think they would ever release a game of thrones Lego set...I would love that, I'm hooked on that series like a star wars guy is hooked on his franchise lol

Never in a million years would they want their brand associated with such a graphic series. On top of that it's doesn't seem like it'd be a cash cow like their other licensed sets. They've always had great in-house medieval themes, though. Check out the Kingdoms line before they're discontinued to make way for Lord of the Rings.

I think the luckiest I have been was the Tantive IV(Corellian Corvette) Set. Walked into Target one time saw it and finally broke down. Was marked $199 but when I got upto the checkout it rang up for $99 and I was a giddy schoolgirl inside my mind that night.

The original Tantive IV not the newer one at that

How do you guys feel about making the creator set a bonus objective of some sort? That way those who are interested in that aspect can have a friendly competition on that level without shutting everyone who doesn't want to spend out of the game. Perhaps make the piece limit similar to what's available in the creator set?

Sorry it didn't go up over the weekend. I haven't forgotten, just got busy.

After doing the SSD, it is now a permanent fixture in my bed room, such an awesome ship. It got me the Lego fever though, now going to be picking up the Imperial Shuttle, it's a beautiful piece and really like these more detailed display level sets.

No worries. We'll need a decent amount of notice to get any sets in. But a standard creator set should be fairly easy to find in a good toy store.

A thing of beauty isn't it? At $2,000 plus though, it's hard to justify, unless LEGO decides to reissue.

You can find the UCS Falcon for quite a bit less than $2k if you go used.

I just bought a used UCS Star Destroyer 100% complete with box and instructions for $510 off of eBay.

That looks like the best option, as I also want to get the UCS Star Destroyer.

Has anyone here done Robie House? I really enjoyed Fallingwater and ready to take the next step!

I'm on the fence about it. Falling Water and one of the Spongebob sets were my two "out of the dark ages" sets. I also have Brandenburg Gate and Farnsworth House on display in my office (next to Falling Water). I'm sure it's a fantastic purchase, but I've heard Falling Water is the superior build and design from other Lego Architecture nuts.

I've been driving around Malibu for the past couple of weekends in a row and I couldn't help but take notice of how many of the contemporary homes there would make for awesome LEGO models. It got me thinking that it might be fun to gather up some photos off of the MLS for one of these homes and try to recreate it in LEGO.

That's a hugely popular form of MOC'ing. Recreating/designing houses is one of my favorite Lego activities. :)

Now if someone would make the Separatist flagship (Providence-class? The Death's Hand was the name IIRC) on the same scale and put it next to that beaty.

EDIT I think the Venator is a few years old by now.

I bought the standard Lego Venator off ebay, looking forward to building that. One of the few prequel ships I like.

That UCS star destroyer is gorgeous. Price isn't nearly as insane as the Millenium Falcon, but I still prefer the falcon. I just have to realise I can't really afford either and just wait to see if they do another UCS Falcon in a few years time.

Has anyone here done Robie House? I really enjoyed Fallingwater and ready to take the next step!

I built Robie house, and frankly it's nowhere near as good as Fallingwater. Way too many of the pieces are 1x1 smooth tiles that are placed all over to look like paving stones, and most of the walls are just 1x2 red bricks stacked over and over. I like the look of the finished model, but as a build, It's not great.

Also, inside, it doesn't have the multiple floors that Fallingwater does even though Robie house is a multiple floor building. Frankly, the set is sort of a disappointment.

Also, am I the only one who mainly build Technic stuff? Since I got back into Lego a few years ago, those sets have been the ones I've really enjoyed. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer and not really all that into Star Wars or other licensed stuff. Some of the bigger Technic sets are really cool, IMO.

I just actually finished the Unimog, which has some col use of hydraulics. The actual power stuff isn't that exciting (just a winch and spinning the crane), but the suspension on the thing is cool, I love all the gearing, and the hydraulic controls are cool.

Edit: The Robie house is actually two level, sorry. Still, it's a three level house, so it's a bit disappointing. It is a nice looking model though. Here's it next to Fallingwater:

Their trend seems to be once they make a UCS version they do a cheaper less detailed kit. Which we have with the falcon now. I dont expect them to redo the UCS lines again sadly.

started off with technics, but recently moved to be more into star wars and the fantastic modulars.

Just finishing parting out my 8421 mobile crane and RC Bulldozer and will try and sell on bricklink. I'll keep my 8043 excavator which is just fantastic, and my 8860 chassis as it was my favourite technic when I was younger.

How do the hydraulics work on the unimog?

How does one even go about making this? What I mean is that you can't just buy a ton of bricks and start building. There has to be some kind of blueprint or design. Are they using software?

This may be obvious but is there a place you guy blocks and parts from or do you need to get all lego from kits? That guy must have bought a shit load of standard blocks. Can you guy parts from Lego directly?

NVMD found it.

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pick-A-Brick-ByTheme

thats one option, another is bricklink.com which is an unofficial kind of ebay for lego bricks, and yet another is 'missing pieces' on lego.com where you can get specific parts you might be missing from a set. (handy to get rare pieces that aren't on pick a brick and are expensive on bricklink.com)
