They're only really similar in that there's lots and lots of spoken dialogue between characters.

No, it's something different entirely from that universe.

It probably was/or is close to my show of 2010. I just really had fun watching it.

It's entirely different, but the patented Nisio endless amount of dialogue is still present.

Don't worry guys, I like his eccentric brand of "dialogue badminton." I'll give it a shot soon especially hearing that it's so different in setting/universe.

Yeah, I'm not really a big fan of that specific set of episodes. However, that's literally the only part of the series that I have a problem with, as it picks up immediately afterwards.

If I only have to suffer through one more episode like that, I'm pretty sure I can get to the other side.

I've got a hole in the end of my week schedule now that Thermae is done, and I'm probably going to fill it by trying Level E instead of going back to Wandering Son. This fake-season has taught me a lot about my tastes, and I've learned that I'm not as classy as I thought I was. I need something weird and silly that has no relation to real life in my anime rotation.

I'm saddened that you're not watching Wandering Son but at least you're watching a fine show instead. Level E is one of my favourite anime comedies (because I only find a very small percentage of them 'funny).

Think feudal Japan, cool guy of the week approach to fights (some of which are pretty awesome), dialogue badminton (I love it too), and just the tone, setting, and development of the show. Not to mention it's very pretty.

Also, make SURE you watch the next episode previews. This is a 100% must, and you will understand why I say this once you get around the halfway point of the series. It makes the experience that much better.

Each episode is an hour long, and they released one episode per month over the course of 12 months.

Cheerio!

Okay, once again Another, up to the most recent ep. I like it, but I really, really hate how freaking unbelievable the lead character is set up. No one, and I really mean no one at all would react like he does to fucking everything happening. Mei, the accidents, the way everybody's treating him, putting things together, absolutely nothing makes sense in his reactions (or non-reactions) to everything around him. That's really kinda putting me off.

[Gintama 120-140]

I actually haven't really enjoyed any of these particular 'serious arcs', hopefully it picks up again soon (by which I mean 'plays to my own peculiar tastes').

Why? He is living the dream.

He has with Mei the hottest girl in the school and no annoying classmates anymore.

I'm a little jealous...

Wandering Son is definitely still in my on-deck circle. I just need some balance in my diet.

That was my favorite part of the episode. Karasawa is just awesome.

I haven't even seen the latest episode, but it's possible there's a reason for at least some of it.

Nichibro's 5

I haven't really enjoyed this show all that much but this weeks ep was easily the best one yet. The only skit that didn't really work for me at all was the rubber shooter one as it was rather drawn out and predictable. Literature girl <3

Chihayafuru - 18

mpc-hc2012-02-0722-3448xv8.jpg

Good episode.

I love the way how different the playing styles are.
And no abstract power level or special attack stuff, but a deep analysis of different playing styles, even I don't know if it all that realistic

I going to have to trot out a word that I've (sadly) had to apply to the last couple of Chihayafuru episodes - average. Distinctly average. Remember that I haven't called it bad!

Ever since the 'recap' episode, or maybe the episode before that, the show's direction took a turn for the boring and flat. Most of the episodes leading up to the half way point of the show were surprisingly powerful and effective, given the subject matter, but it really feels like the C Team is phoning it in at the moment. This weeks episode just looked really cheap. It might not come across in images, but the character designs look a bit off, there's a lot less character animation and there's a host of money-saving techniques on display as well. It doesn't look incredibly cheap, like say a low-budget episode of a SHAFT show, but it's a noticeable step down.

The subject matter isn't particularly thrilling either. It's just more karuta matches that don't really move anything forward with the main characters. The episode itself even manages to feel disconnected from the one before, as the show isn't doing a good job at displaying time passing and linking one event to another - suddenly they have to go to a karuta tournament and do a thing.

I also have one big story complaint -
the sudden appearance of Chihaya's flaw. It feels like we've been watching Chihaya play karuta for years, but it's only in the last handful of episodes that we've 'discovered' that Chihaya has a real problem with accuracy taht's holding her back. It just seems like an under-developed excuse to explain why she can't win every match with her super speed powers.

Funky Lives of High School Girls 5

Yeah, I'd watch a show about Yuu Kobayashi joining a band and then going to London after practicing only for one week.

Daily Live of Highschool Boys 5

Loving this show. The Karasawa bits are probably my favorite followed by the Literature girl and Hidenori. The reaction faces and voice acting sell everything so well.

Chihayafull - 18

Despite enjoying the last batch of episodes, I'm just not feeling it when they talk about the strategies behind Karuta because in the end it all falls back on hinging me to be enjoying Karuta as a "sport" for the strategies to gauge any interest out of it, which it doesn't. But I can at the very least appreciate that implementing strategy is what Chihaya needs to improve rather than some PoT style "hands of the budha" type of upgrade to beat her higher level opponents.

I'll say it again, sports are rarely the interesting part of sports anime. The problem, of course, is that sports anime like to get into the nitty gritty of whatever they're featuring, so if you don't care, I can see it getting boring really fast.

Law of Ueki: 1

My head... Alright. Right off the bat, and for those who are graced with chance of having no clue about this show, I give you context; Ueki is a kid that, for no real reason at all, was chosen by a creeper schoolteacher to compete in a tourney to become 'The Celestial King,' and to do it was given both an ability, and arbitrary limitations on said ability: Growing trees from his hand, using pieces of trash, but only for specific yet incredibly undefined instances; lest, of course, he desire the loss of his science/god given gifts--Getting girls and so forth. I do not kid.

Now, as silly as that all sounds (And with not an ounce of exageration), this is where the concept truly breaks to shit and stays there; what the hell constitutes as 'trash' in this show, and why does no one in this world bat an eye at this kid just sprouting redwood roots from his hand? Examples below:

cleanup.jpg
whattheshame.jpg

-----

While in the process of getting his ass whipped, Ueki's unable to find trash because of a town-wide cleanup, alright; I could hang with that. It's good enough~ And he needs some help...

Why.jpg

-----
Girl, you are 10 feet away at most, in an alleyway watching your husbando get his ass whipped because of a lack of litter on the ground, eventually decide to help after deciding he's had his fair share of lashings, and proceed to just run past not only one, but two trash-cans...

andwhyamInontsurprised.jpg
righttheyareshittingme.jpg

...To go have an unsurprisingly hard time finding this oddly specific bag of trash... There was another set of examples I had for my second point of contention, but this post is getting long and I should just go ahead and get back to the torture.

Thankfully the show works despite Karuta, but then you're liable to get episodes like this one.

It's funny though, the show is best when Chihaya just reacts to something as if it's the first time she's ever seen it in her life, and all these karuta matches have so many opportunities for Spielberg-esque Chihaya reaction shots. I think this episode had a large number of "shocked" Chihaya shots. lol

Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 7
QZwfZ.jpg

The stuff of nightmares.
That was an amazingly enjoyable episode. With the Mahou Shoujo opening, the cooking segment, How to draw Zetsubou Sensei, and the at least six different types of animation, Shaft really went all out this episode.

Highschool Boys 5

Probably the best episode thus far, all the of the bits were funny this week except for the rubberband thing.

This episode was a lot more lighthearted than the previous few episodes, and it was a bit jarring how Haraken didn't have a single second of screentime, while so many plot threads are still unanswered. Of course, the mystery behind the cyberspace of the town is what drives the show, but at least a mention of Haraken would have been nice.

Apart from that, I finally got my
cyber whale.
.

I'm glad they're still avoiding filler. This was pretty much a stand alone episode, but several important facts were revealed, along with another member of the cyber detective agency.
I knew she was going to be one of them! but there's still 5 or so unknown members...

This show is so much better than anything currently airing this season, with the possible exception of
Natsume
.

is that Shinobu in there?

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai 5

I don't don't know how it did it, but somehow, this awful show has yet again magically redeemed itself in the last thirty seconds. WHY DO YOU PLAY WITH MY HEART SO? ;_______;

ICHIGO DAISUKI!

Your weekly ramblings almost make me want to check it out.

I do enjoy a bit of suffering on the occasional basis.

Anyway, keep up the good fight!

Law of Ueki: 2

So, I can cross off the explainition to the arbitrary limitations on the powers, but can now add unexplained powerups. Fancy. With the pictures above, I want to complain that they were dudebroing it out in a gymnasium that showed no signs of a fuck about fire, or, you know, the idea of actually burning down, but then we have this...

lolbus.jpg

Igiveup.jpg

--
FLOATING MOTHERFUCKING BUSES THAT DON'T GIVE A FUCK AT ALL ABOUT GRAVITY. I give up. The people don't even begin to give a fuck about random ass magic shooting from a kid's hands, wooded gymnasiums don't care about fire, and buses don't care about gravity. I could end this post here, but I have to continue on, and on the topic sadism at that.

I implied in my last post the idea that the waifu might actually have desired to see The Kid get his ass beat--waiting on the offer of help until he was thoroughly thrashed, only to then meander past immediate benefit, but I never would have figured that it would actually become a recurring theme. Example below;

slap1.jpg
slap2.jpg
slap3.jpg

Notice how in each of the initial three frames Ueki shows not even the semblance of a fuck? I did.

Mirai Nikki Episode 15

I really hope Yuno kills that motherfucker who calls himself Yuki's father. Horribly.

I can't think of a time when I've ever been scared by any anime. Have you? I've seen some works that makes me tense, like Ghost Hound, but that's different.

That the girl missing a leg
when she was still human
in Blood+ disturbs me quite a bit. Not abject terror or the jump out of the seat. It was more along the lines of revulsion and I was definitely relieved when they decided to
change her into a freak
.
